  1. Terminator T1's.
  2. Not a problem, if you have any issues or questions feel free to send me a message. I check this website far more than I'm willing to admit.
  3. You're going to have to find the rod spine first, and then you'll use the marker provided to mark the spine of the rod, placing your guides along the mark youve made.
  4. That kit looks like it'd get you started quite well. I'd also heavily consider a power wrapper, it makes wrapping guides and drying epoxy so much easier.
  5. I apologize I realized I didn't answer one of your questions so I'll answer it here. Guide wrapping and waiting for epoxy to dry and set, and admitting defeat and redoing the wrap and epoxy in certain areas was the most difficult aspect of rod building. I'm an impatient and high energy person by nature, so slowing down to do these things with meticulous detail was incredibly difficult for me to do, and in trying to rush it I wasted a lot of materials and time but learned my lesson. Rods don't build themselves over night, slow down, take your time. Love what you're doing in the moment as well and it'll go a lot smoother than if you just rush to get to the finish product.
  6. Yes I have built rods, back when I owned a home in Illinois I had enough room to do so in my garage. Now that I'm in Georgia I'm in an apartment until we can qualify for a home loan and I'll get back into building then. As far as not included in the kit, in a fantasy world you're going to want everything they sell. What I would do just starting out, and what I did do is go ahead and watch the tutorials first, read some of the already posted information on tools used. And watch and learn what the absolute basics are for what you're trying to accomplish. You can get away with minimum tools if you're trying to just do a cookie cutter basic build where as more advanced techniques like marbling will require more advanced tools. I don't know what your budget is, but in my opinion this is going to be your best bet for a starting kit. http://www.mudhole.com/Professional-Rod-Building-Start-Up-Supply-Kit-FSB-3 It is expensive, but we do it for the love of fishing, and the art of the rods. Not to be cheap, if cheap was the goal Ugly Stik will do just fine. You can also look into rod building classes in your area, Mudhole does a year circuit for traveling and teaching how to build a rod.
  7. Mudhole is a great resource for purchasing rod building items, they even have starter kits, and tutorials. The starter kits come in rod building tools, as well as low end rod building kits that wont break the bank that you can cut your teeth on to get started.
  8. I like what Mike did with my rod, he actually had me measure my forearm, and created a rod length between the end of the butt and the casting trigger that goes the length of my forearm without being annoying or getting caught inside of my short sleeves while fishing. When fighting through cover or in a difficult situation having a handle length like that makes the balance point moot since you can hold the rod directly against your forearm as leverage, so even while using it for fishing 25LB salmon out of Wisconsin I had no issues. But when it comes to preference for casting, I prefer it to be dead even right at my reel for balance, or slightly forward. In my opinion it helps me while skipping, and long casts with leverage going into the cast, and fatigue thorough the day.
  9. I've had to glue a screw in before, make sure you look up something that desolves well with an rubbing alcohol otherwise you'll never get it out. I don't remember what I used, some type of super glue was what I do remember. I know other people have put glue into the hole and ran the screw into it creating new threads. The same problem still exists the next time you take it apart as far as stripping it out and possibly needing to desolve the glue that is in the way. I have nothing else to offer in terms of ordering the actual new frame. You may want to call Mike at DVT. He's hands down the best of the best and in my experience has never had an issue talking through issues and how to resolve them.
  10. I fish left handed. Odds are its a rightie
  11. I do not but I am curious as my next rod will be a crank dedicated stick. I was between this or calling Mike again but thats a few months away. Hopefully we can get some feed back onthis because winning icast doesnt particularly mean much these days.
  12. Hello friends. Those thatve seen me around may notice Ive been until recently a die hard shimano guy. But im consdering buying my first Diawa. Im looking at the new diawa steez sv tw. Im having a rod built for me by Mike at DVT in the next few weeks for 3/8ths jigs and 1/2 oz spinnerbaits on a rainshadow eternity blank. Would the diawa steez compliment the rod well for my purpose? Or is there a megabass reel out there im unaware of that would work better. Thanks for the input guys. Appreciate yall. It should be noted if you talk me out of a diawa or a megabass Ill be getting a met mgl.
  13. I always do a lot of lever casts when casting overhand. But i also like to throw a lot of back handed casts and side casts. I mix it up pretty regularly so I rarely experience any fatigue or issues.
  14. The nrx is the only production rod on the market that I will pay full retail price for. Any other rod I will only buy onsale or second hand.
  15. Already got an email out to Mike trying to get a rod thrown together for the upcoming season. Love his work hes done for me in the past. Always recommend him. Thanks for the info fellas.
  16. If you hold one in your hands, youll notice the handle has a lot of play in it left and right, the spool has a lot of play in it front and back, and its over all just noisy and far less polished than I expect at that price point. I'm sorry but Curado 70 beats this thing out of the water.
  17. NRX 7'5'' Ex Heavy Ex Fast.
  18. Hey fellas, I'm looking to get a rod built for me, I don't build myself as I live in an apartment and simply don't have the space. At least thats what my wife keeps telling me. I was curious what the thoughts are on the Rainshadow Eternity series blanks? I'm looking to get the ETEC72MH-SS made into a split grip cork rod for using with both 1/2 OZ spinnerbaits with a trailer and 1/2 OZ jigs with a trailer. What do y'all think of this blank that have used it? Is there anything out there significantly better? I've read a few reviews that were all positive. But I've never handled one myself so I was hoping for some opinions from y'all. Thank you, I appreciate it.
  19. I think it's just outpaced them. I don't know that the quality is genuinely that drastically different; Though it is better in my opinion. But at the end of the day they've definitely done a better job with marketing, and coming out with "shiny new" products keeping them in the forefront of everyones mind when they go ahead to buy a new reel.
  20. Handle length, attention to detail, customization between color, and the actual blank you want. I also have a rod that I believe personally is on par with the NRX slightly below it at best in terms of sensitivity and weight in my MHX pro elite. I enjoy it thoroughly. cost me two hundred less than the cheapest NRX.
  21. At that price point I call DVT to get a custom rod built for me.
  22. Im absolutely certain line, rods and reels for that matter will be drastically different in 20 years. Im not entirely sure what technology will be in play or how itll work out but my current example is in Febuary we are getting our first well reviewed mass produced reel without ball berrings. Copolymer berrings in a casting reel supposedly zero rust corrosion or lubrication needed.
  23. Primarily bagley plus and minus lipless and occasional square bills. All right around 1/2 to 3/4ths an ounce.
