  1. Thanks for the responses guys. I appreciate it. Brute....it is not an issue with overflowing, it's that that water gets so high before the drain is reached that you have put your arm up to your bicep in the water to get a fish that is resting on the bottom.....becomes a comfort issue in April when the water up here in NH is 45 degrees. Thanks again for the help.....
  2. I just purchased my first bass boat and I have a question on the livewell system in my Tracker 175. I have two switches for my livewell one is aerator and the other is recirculate. They both have a auto and manual setting. The aerator fills the livewell and the recirculate...recirculates the water. How do I use this system when I have fish in the livewell? If I keep the aerator on AUto the livewell fills to the top and almost overflows.....causing the divider to come out......and there to be too much water to manage/cull fish. Should I fill it a small amount and then tun the aeraor switch off and turn the recirc on timed or auto setting? DOes this bring any fresh water to the fish? If I want to get fresh water in there do I have to pump out some of the old water before I pump in fresh water or is the automatically done when the aerator is in the auto position? I hope this makes some sort of sense. My livewell does have a pump out feature that allows the livewell to be pumped out.........Help......Its ameatur hour over here :-?
  3. I own the 6'10" Drop Shot Avid Rod. It is a great rod for tubes, small worms and 4" senkos..........For the money that you would be spending.....I would go with a Premiere Rod from St. Croix save some money and get yourself another reel. That way you will have two set-ups. Over time you can figure what baits you throw the most and go get an avid that is perfect for that bait. Just my two cents
  4. Thanks guys. I guess I just have to work on that part of it. I guess it is just my natural reaction. Something for next year. Thanks again
  5. I recently started using braid while fishing heavy cover. This summer I set the hook on a 4 pound largemouth and heard a pop in my hand. I ignoreed it for the rest of the season but was extremely uncomfortable. Now looking back i should have seen a doctor because I am pretty sure I broke or fractured a bone in my hand. I am a big guy (6'2" 215)and set the hook like the fish owes me money......what is the best rod for this technique? I (and my hand) already know that a Quatum Tour Edition 7' MH is not the right choice. Thoughts?
  6. I have a question for the fourm. I have made it a goal to fish more crankbaits and rattle-traps this year. The question is what is a good rod for using these tecniques? I fish tourmaments all summer and usually use 7' rods. I fish mostly shimano curado's with St. Croix rods. The selection in my area is small and usually purchase them right from St. Croix corporate. Anyone use a rod that they think serves all my needs. p.s I will be using braid for the rattle-trap so the rod becomes real important here. Thoughts? Iced in...... in NH mjbfsh07
  7. I am going to NY this weekend and will be staying on Great Sacandaga Lake? Anybody know any techniques that work up there? I have heard that the lake is drawn down which might make bank fihsing tough but it's still fishing. I appreciate passing any info you can on to me.....Thanks in advance.
  8. I fish for smallies deep and have "fizzed" smallies before. I did it in a state tournament for over 350 bass because I was one of five fisherman that knew how to do it. I can say to all of you that we only killed 2 fish and that was suspect because they were gut hooked already. The best thing to do when catching deep smallies is to take your time bringing them up. SLOW DOWN SLOW DOWN SLOW DOWN. After you catch them and put them in the well keep an eye on them and make sure they are not swimming around belly up. They make "fizzing" needles...I suggest you get one and do some research
  9. When that water gets cold you should have three lures tied on: 1. Jerk Bait- Because you never know what's going to hit it and if something does it is usually big 2. Tube- Dead Stick- enough said. 3. Last but not least the silver buddy or any replica of it. Hop it and let it sit and hold on. Works great on points and in deep water and have caught a ton of good bass on it. And just one last point-- watch the birds. When shad get grouped up and start getting chased by pearch and trout and eveything else in the lake the birds flock for the free meal. Smallies will follow teh sounds of the shad clicking and the birds hitting the water. Throw the Jerkbait as far as possible and rip it through that school. Follow it with a silver buddy or a tube for teh big boys sitting below just looking for a dead or wounded shad. Just my two cents iced in -in New Hampshire
  10. The biggest smallie that I have boated was a 4.5lb on Lake Champlain. I lost one that was at least six pounds while experimenting with drop shotting for the first time with 6 lb vanish, a 7'mh rod and the wrong drag setting...not a good choice still think about that fish every time I go out on the water.

  12. The stop and go is a good way of getting them to bite. The colder the water the longer the pause. Watch the line that is a great indicator. You will most likely see a jump in the line or feel a small tick.
  13. Classic Patterns
  14. Smallmouth fight better than Largemouth handsdown. If you think differently you have been living in the south to long! COme up to the Northeast and try and fight one of these pigs. A four pound smallmouth will give you more fight than a 7 pound largemouth.
  15. I can't believe that you want to axe Jerry's show. He is a devoted smallmouth fisherman, and one of the best around.....If you want to axe someone axe that d#uc*e Charlie Moore. He lives down the street from me. He is the only guy that has his own show and can hardly acatch a bass over 2lbs.............It must help that his wife had an IN with the exec's at ESPN
