Baits and techniqes for late winter
I am shore bound and looking for baits and techniques for this time of year. Last year, I didn't really start fishing until mid-March and used a Ned Rig exclusively through April. Last year, I picked up the Flick Shake in the fall and totally slayed bass on it. I currently have tubes, grubs and the aforementioned baits that I can utilize should the need arise. What would you do?

zebco (Abu) cardinal UL?
Which of these reels is the UL model, 100yds or so of 4lb mono. I think it's either the 3 or 4, but I'm uncertain.

MLF Summit Cup
Sheli has a couple things I quite like. I'm pulling for Brent Chapman. He's from 25 miles from me and I like his personality. Watson is a doofus. I'd love to pull for Martens, but as long as Brent survives, that's my man.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Would anyone be interested in my new Powell Inferno 7'0 ML spinning rod? I bought it and just can't get over the added length. I'd be willing to sell for $60 face to face or trade for a used low profile bait caster. Let me know. I'm offering it locally since I don't want to ship it. It has never seen water but has had a reel mounted to it.

That was my thought too. Oh well, I can wait a little while.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
With all this fishing talk and frozen water, one gets their stuff sorted and I have a situation. I bought too many bags of plastics this winter. I'm just needing some fish. Anyone know of shore-accessible bass right now?

Looking for recommendations - Freshwater Trout/Smallmouth Bass
That is Power Pro braid for main line and a fluoro 6-8lb leader.

Looking for recommendations - Freshwater Trout/Smallmouth Bass
Any St Croix Avid or higher 6'6 or 7 ML will suffice on all but the smallest flows. I am using a 7' ML Powell. I'd go with 10/2 or 15/4 PP with 8lb leader.

rod life
Perhaps you became accustomed to a stiffer rod, faster action with your heavier gear and were expecting the same feeling after an absence from that Premier 6' ULF. this can and does happen. It happened to me and now, I have a hard time using my UL rod. also, there's a chance that the UL rods simply don't have enough inherent stiffness for a truly fast action and will always be more parabolic.

Favorite Smallmouth technique
I prefer a shaky head approach, 3.5-4" craws on an 1/8oz head in rivers. I don't have lake smallie experience.
-
One Lure Only
I'll go with a 4" curly tail grub in any color, as long as it's some variation of green, no brown, what about smoke? Dang, yes, a grub on an 1/8oz weedless jighead, but not like a shakeyhead, rather a ball head with wire weedguard.

Flick Shake rod...ML or M spinning rod
I'm using the 4.8 with 3/32 or 1/8 and Ned rigs this year on a 7' ML Powell.

Old rods....
If you need to relocate those old Falcons, I can provide a TW tube and my address.

Powell inferno
Mine is rigged, but it'll be Thursday or so before I can even try it.

I'm looking for a finnesse and light lure throwing baitcaster
PX-R...That's the king. Others would be the Alphas SV105 and the Aldebaran/Metanium.

How do you find the big smallies?
In rivers, your bigger bass will hold in the most primo spots. In the Ozarks, it is often either behind a downed tree, along a current seam or beneath boulders.
-
Braided line smallies
PP 15/4 yellow is on my spinning rod. I use it for finesse techniques and if I drop shotted, it'd work there too.

If I didn't have to work the 2nd, I'd make an appearance at Johnny's. Perhaps there'll be another get together soon and I can meet more of y'all.

What Tires To Run?
As a tire technician training to transfer to the truck shop for Waste Management's single largest fleet, I can say that the trailer tires are designed for trailer use. If you'll post your sizes, I can give recommendations based upon my decade of experience in both retail and fleet shops. I would assume they are either ST205/75R14 or 15, but could be as large as an ST225/75R15 or as small as an ST175/80R13. My recommendations would be to get radials, don't screw with bias tires at all. As far as brands I have extensive experience with, Towmax is affordable, decently durable and is a Power King, which is made by a subsidiary of Cooper. Goodyear Marathon, well, it's a Goodyear and I'm not a fan. Bear in mind that many ST tires are speed rated for 65mph and exceeding this may speed up wear. Also, have them balanced, road force or dynamic, not static. That will help as well.

Pit Boss Problems
The Pit Boss is a killer bait. I like to rig the 3" on a light T-Rig with an 1/8oz jighead on my spinning rod.

Powerpro
I'm using Power Pro 15/4 yellow/fluoro leader on my spinning rod and have no issues.
