  1. I caught most of them in shallow water (1-3 feet) in the coves on a whopper plopper. Even though it was cold out, they were hammering topwater lures.
  2. I went to Westwood Lake in New Castle today. Thanks for the suggestion, Brian, it was a beautiful park. It was cold and windy. I didn't land any giants but I caught enough bass to keep it interesting. I will definitely be going back.
  3. I'll bet those musky (and pike) are fun to catch. I need to get up north soon.
  4. Thanks for the tips! It's clear your degree in graphic design is coming along nicely. Good luck on your final exams.
  5. I have Thursday off so I plan on going fishing all day. I'm trying to decide where to go. So far this spring, I've been to Mississinnewa Reservoir, Geist Reservoir, and Summit Lake. If the weather is crappy I might just go to Summit again (it's only 30 minutes away). Or I might go down to Brookville. Any suggestions on where I should go kayak fishing next?
  6. I'm glad Alan had a good day. Mine was less than stellar. I caught half a dozen dink bass and a few bluegill. I hooked up with one large bass on a ned rig [likely would have been a new personal best] but I lost it right when I tried to grip her lip. Looks like I'll be purchasing a net this week.
  7. I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow [30% chance]. I've got the kayak loaded and ready to go to Summit Lake in the morning. My wife & son are coming down later in the day to bring me lunch. Anyone else going to be out on the water tomorrow?
  8. You know you can get the TRD and the jigs at JBC Outfitters right here in Muncie. The owner is a nice guy, too.
  9. On Saturday I participated in the kayak tournament at Geist Reservoir hosted by the Indiana Kayak Anglers. The tournament, which had 60 anglers, was very well run and organized. I had a ton of fun and got to make lots of new friends - and I finished in the top 10! I feel like the time I spent consuming information on BassResource this winter is starting to pay off.
  10. Farm pond. Ned rig. Catching fish on nearly every single cast. I love days like this!
  11. I went down to Summit on Sunday and fished from my kayak (I'd seen your post on the Hoosier thread so I kept an eye out for you, Brian, but I didn't see any other kayak anglers). I fished for nearly six hours and only caught one fish on a Ned rig. I'm planning on fishing my first kayak tournament on Geist this Saturday. I haven't been there before and I hadn't really given boat traffic much thought.
  12. I loaded up the kayak and went to Summit Lake today. I spent about six hours on the water (9-3:00) and only caught one fish (on a Ned Rig). Regardless, the weather was beautiful and I had a good time.
  13. Is anyone else here participating in the Indiana Kayak Anglers' tournament at Geist on April 23? It's my 1st tournament & 1st time at Geist (although I might get down there for some pre-fishing this weekend). I don't have much experience fishing from a kayak but I'm pretty excited to put my (very limited) skills to the test.
  14. I went to Salamonie Reservoir yesterday. I didn't realize just how low they drain it in the winter.
  15. Has anyone else been watching the Bassmaster Classic? Bill Lowen (from Brookville, IN) is on fire today! http://www.bassmaster.com/video/bassmaster-classic-live
  16. I looked at the 7-day forecast this morning and got so excited I drove to town and spent +$30 on jerkbaits. LOL I can't wait to try out this Shadow Rap Shad I picked up.
  17. Hello from Central Indiana.
  18. Welcome. I'm from central Indiana, too. Here's a recent thread with lots of other Hoosiers chiming in from around the state:
  19. I was just poking around YouTube and came across this four-part video series about fishing swimbaits in the Northeast. It made me think of this thread - and I thought you guys might like to check 'em out, too.
  20. What kind of rod are you throwing the plopper on? Something along the lines of a 6'8" medium power rod with a fast action? Or am I way off base?
  21. +1 for Native Watercraft. Great company. Check out the Slayer Propel and the Ultimate fx Propel. They are expensive ($2500-3000ish) but think of all the money you will save on gas & engine maintenance. At least that's what I keep telling my wife. I'm in the process of trying to decide which one I'm going to purchase this spring. Ohio has a couple of kayak fishing organizations/tournaments that might interest you, too.
  22. I'm glad you started this thread. I've often wondered if the types of BIG swimbaits that the California guys throw would work here (and if so, whether they would only work on big lakes - or small lakes & ponds, too).

  24. Checking in from just north of Muncie. My goals for the year include: 1. Exploring more of the state. I moved to central Indiana about 8 years ago and I tend to stick close to home (Summit Lake, Mississinnewa Reservoir and Salamonie Reservoir, and the White river). I'd like to hit some of the other waters the state has to offer. 2. Investing in a nice kayak and getting involved in some of the regional kayak fishing tournaments this year. 3. Remaining happily married while doing 1 and 2.
  25. Thanks for the advice. Looks like I'll be in the market for a dedicated frog rod in the near future.
