  1. Hey thanks this is just what I was looking for! I thought about this as well 2 Fuegos would be almost same $$ as 1 tatula 100. An changing reel would be just as easy as tying another FG knot. Some good food for thought.
  2. Looking to replace a real on a Med/F rod, This rod will be used for shakey heads, weightless worm, smaller jigs, chatterbait, spinnerbaits, an topwater. For the bottom contact presentations I am thinking about 30#Braid with fluoro leader. An for top water stuff same 30# Braid with copoly leader. Is there something flawed with my thinking on changing leader for bottom/top water stuff? With this train of thought brings me to my next question with a kicker. The kicker is this reel will most likely be moved on to a pitching/flipping rod when I acquire one. Requirements have: Must to be able to cast lighter lures. Want something smaller easier to palm, as I have smaller hands I wear Med.~large. glove depending. Have a higher drag for its later use. Gearing 7.5:1 or more. (all these reels meet) Really like to stay at the $100 price point. Curado an SV are $160 on fleabay which I would consider but it would have to be a super night/day difference. Which now brings me to my "reel" question... LOL.. I have been looking at the Diawa Fuego, Tatula Ct, Tatula 100, Tatula SV, Shimano Curado 70XG, Curado 70K, SLX, Lews Mach Crush SLP, Quantum Smoke S3. #1 on my list is the Tatula Ct. Pro's I have heard about the casting ability of these reels, plus it has 13lbs. of drag, Lighter than Fuego. I have heard some people like the Twing for flipping pitching. Con's: I've heard the Twing don't make much diff. in casting, as well don't play nice with braid to leader knots. I USE A FG knot IDK if that makes a diff. or not (knot)lol ? #2 would be the Tatula 100, OR Fuego. Pro's for 100 is the spider on the side, lighter than others. (Yes I'm like a coon an a sucker for the shiny things.) Pro. for Fuego is the Drag at 13lbs. again. Price is great! on the Fleabay. Con's: 100 Same as Tatula Ct plus only 11 LBS. drag. Fuego Heavier of the bunch, No Twing haven't decided if that's a con or not yet. #3 Quantum Smoke S3. Pros: its on par with Tatula 100 Price and weight. Has the most bearing's of the bunch, And has 25lbs. of drag! Most of the bunch! Con: Looks to be a bigger real as it holds 170yds of 12lb. test. I cannot confirm since I have no where to go fondle such reels. Have to be honest this real has me pretty intrigued. But I haven't heard much on casting lighter stuff or much in general on this reel. #4 would be the rest of the reels the Lew's first since it has coon appealing colors. Rest of the field to follow, Tatula SV, Shimano's, Would be open to other recommendations as well! Side note I am trying to "dip into everyone's pool" an then decide what water I like the best. With that said I have a Shimano Citica from 2015, An a Abu Garcia revo X, So I would favor a Diawa, Lews, Quantum, Over said Shimano an Abu Garica recommendations. Thanks for letting me take 1/2 your day to read this! Shifty
  3. Wow a lot of great info here! As someone who is just getting back into fishing in general I appreciate all the information here. @a-jay there were a lot of nice little nuggets of information on your post thanks!
  4. @NittyGrittyBoy Thanks I think my most versatile rod will be my MH that I already own, I guess i"m just looking for the next most versatile rod. An I believe that it will be a M or ML as there are more presentations to be offered VS the Heavy Rod. I am trying to stay away from more specific type stuff right now an get a feel for what I like style wise. I guess my thought was yes a ML to M rod is very versatile but its only used every other trip or something like that, where the Heavy rod comes out every trip. An as I sit an type this I don't think there is a straight answer this forum can provide. From what I have been learning it seems fishing is all based on personal preference an structures of fisheries. I guess its really not what I want to hear, I am use to absolute's at work an last hobby. Thanks Again!
  5. Just went out to the garage to double check rods I had an literally found another case of these mystery rods. I’d say they are on the medium side of action curve. Says It’s a fiberglass rod 6’-0” ML rod with Stainless Steel guides. I guess my only concern would be with hook set on some of the non exposed hook riggings. Since it’s a softer action or would that matter at all?
  6. Mainly light to ultra light stuff an short. I do have upon looking a 6’-0” ML Idk what action tho cheap Diawa shock rod/reel combo. I bought a case of them for literally nothing about 4 years ago or so. An have Gave them out to people over the years.
  7. So I am thinking of my next Rod an looking at 2 options right now, an will be open to other options as well. I think I have a decent idea of where this will go but I am asking anyway. I am looking for more of a multi purpose rod, or something that will cover more fishing techniques then just a dedicated purpose. I have little experience in dedicated bass fishing. Mostly pan/trout fished, but I am learning an building my inventory. I guess it would help to let you know what I have so you could better recommend what I need. Current inventory: 7'-0" MH/F Casting 7.1:1 15#fluoro. 6'-9" M/M Casting Cranking stick 5.4:1 Braid backing to 90yds. 8# Fluoro. 7'-0" M/MF Casting 5.4:1 (thinking of upgrading reel to 7.1:1 or similar an using for topwater/jerkbaits) Lesser quality rod I have a slew of 6'-0" an under M to ML rods. Mostly in the 5'-6" region AVG. Dang Pan fish. Next Rod: 7'-0" ML/F Spinning OR Maybe a 6'-6" M/F Spinning. For finesse Setup Drop shot, smaller shakey heads, Ned rig, wacky rig, Smaller Neko Rig, Maybe throw a floating trick worm? (This might be better suited to the M/MF Baitcaster.) 7'-9" to 8'-0" heavy/XHeavy (Punching, Flipping, Pitching.) Seen 2 1 was 7'-9" rated 6 power. 15-30lb line, 3/4~2oz. lure, Weight of rod 3.5oz... Other rod was 8'-0" Musky MH (which would be a xtra heavy in a bass rod it seems) 15lb~40lb line rating 3/4~3oz. Lure. Weight of Rod 6.5oz. (Only reason mentioning is Rod is about $50 cheaper, which don't matter right now since I haven't made it to that bridge yet. Still deciding if that bridge is where I'm headed. Anyway, I think the general consensus is going to be for the ML or the Med. Since it will be a more versatile rod. Remember MY GOAL is to cover as many techniques as possible with 1 Rod. Yes it won't be the best but will get the job done all year long, An I don't know what style I really like fishing, Judging by just my personality I will say I will like finesse/Slower fishing better, Since I will always be thinking in the back of my mind there was fish I could have caught out of the area but didn't give them the right presentation lol. Then again I may like to set the like on fire blazing all over it I honestly don't know yet. Since my collection is smaller, I will always be able to add more Specific rods as time an money allows. Same with baits I am buying things that will pull double duty soft plastics. I have gave about all the info I can think of an maybe too much in some areas IDK. Just wanting to make sure my train of thought is on track. Thanks for your time! Shifty!
  8. Wow thanks a bunch for all the information. Like I said I'm just trying to see how one determines action by design of a bait regardless of what the package says. Lots of great information here! Man thanks a bunch!!
  9. Wow I really like how you have that all separated out! Very Nice!
  10. As a newer bass fisherman I get overwhelmed with the choices available an mostly how to choose. I have the understanding that colder water slower less action is needed in a trailer, worm, basically in general, an the opposite in the warmer water. My question is how does one look at a soft bait an say yep that's going to have less action, or yep that one is going to have more? I watched a vid on jig trailers an they went through about 4 diff. options for water temps. of different times of the year. How does one decide by looking at a bait what type of action it will have more or less? when you see people say ahh this has less action then go to a tackle shop online or in store, all the packages say "loads of action", "lots of fluttering action" Exc, Exc,.. Is there any general rules one could follow to determine where a plastic worm, grub, trailer, creature, beaver, & Exc. will fall on the "action scale"? Sorry if this has been answered before I have tried using the search feature but couldn't quite find what I was looking for. Thanks in advance!!
  11. Depends on what you want to carry! Hardest part is finding a GOOD holster that's comfortable. Best option is Glock for finding a comfortable holster. I personally carry a walther PPS in 9mm single stack. An I carry Apendix. I know some don't like it but I do. Another consideration is your size. bigger people have more real estate to hide things. I'm of smaller frame so appendix works really well for me. I know the bigger people have a problem carrying this way. Main thing is find what way you like to carry, then start looking at options that suite that an what you can hide. There is always a compromise, I carry many different sizes due to what situations I'm in, An position of how it will be carried. There is no one answer an one thing wont work for everyone main thing is try an find what works best for you.
  12. haha yeah, very true
  13. Ohh I was JW, didn' mean any harm by it. I guess for me it's the geographically location of where I am in the state. Someone on the Eastern edge may have a diff. opinion. Since I'd fish Mo. Ia. just about as much as I'd fish Il. Plus I have never seen IL. listed in any other forum as NE region always central. First time I came to region specific I thought they missed IL. Since I didn't see it in the Central listed states. LOL I was jw why it was listed where it was listed I guess, an if anyone else had the same thought as I did.
  14. I just think IL shares more with the central region states than the NE region states. Closer weather patterns, Season changes, as well Geographic's. Plus if I said hey I'm from the North East region, then said IL. I think people may recommend I get my head checked by someone with Dr. in front of their name.
  15. That's funny you say Kentucky, In another organization I belong too Kentucky got moved to the N.E. region as well we lost them from the North Central Division.
  16. Does anyone else agree that IL should be in the Central Region Vs Northeast? Every other sport I have been involved in always has IL. a Central Or Midwest state. Never a North East.
  17. I seen another state on here as well if there was a high school fishing tournament going on the same time an these boys done knew about the spot an were politely waiting. Then I say only one "UN-COOL" was B lat. These boys are fighting for an education, an in my opinion that's worth a heck of a lot more than what he's after. Now we will never know the whole story of what happened an either side could be "un-cool" But its public water, an public water I agree with move your meat loose your seat rule. Just like anything else. Now I do not compete for bass fishing but I am a competitive shooter an when we compete we rent the range for X amount of days needed. As to have free reign over the complex without interference. I am surprised at how some of the "pro's" act, I have really never watch "Pro" fishing as I have a distain for about all "pro" games as I call them. (only two things I call sports in my book an that's bull riding an auto racing. Even racing can be childish between drivers.) But sponsors in the shooting world have a lot tighter reign on what they accept an do not accept for behavior. I have seen some blow ups of guy's breaking rods an generally acting worse than my 2 year old. You without question would be without sponsors by next weekend in our world there is no room for that. IDK if I am reading your comment wrong, But I see it as the I'm entitled one. And I do get it, it probably is frustrating but its part of your game. But you have no entitlement. Your tax dollars fund that lake same as mine. I don't even see the problem with pro's, How do they know someone else didn't mark that spot days before the other. Sure they didn't beat it up everyday like they did but they knew about it just as long if not longer than the other one. They just had X amount of better spots than the other. ALL competitive sports with equipment are games of money plain an simple, You want to be first there an have reign over the hole buy a bigger motor, better boat whatever the case maybe. In my case it's the same. Talent can take you the furthest, but there is times when better gear is the difference. That new faster cartridge costs more to operate but some days in some situations it can be worth a couple points an that's huge. All in all if a tourney guy came up where I had the spot an asked, hey can I fish here? Yep sure could bud have at it, I'll pick it back up when you leave. But if I waited an he left, fair game. Or have one roll up demanding me to leave, bc that was his spot, that's whole different colorful conversation. "Catch more flies with honey then vinegar" "You want to see the true measure of a man, Look at his actions when he's down behind the count, Not when he's on top."
  18. I guess I will go towards the center of the boat an check for motor clearance an mount it on the first shelf, where the current Xducer is located an call it good. All I got was keep it out of the turbulent water under the boat an your good to go. Thanks!
  19. Upgraded electronics this year to a Lowrance that has the total scan Xducer. Not sure where to mount on the transom. Was thinking about the first "shelf" from the bottom where the current Xducer is located. OR the next "shelf" up where you can see one was located before. Since this is the long Xducer type I wasn't sure of it being on the first shelf since it would be beat by the water as it is longer an will catch more water when on plane. Or the second shelf as it would be better protected, but more chance of it being out of water at higher speeds. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is on a Ranger 362V
  20. I'm looking to get into Rod building, I seen an read your post with the title jumping in with both feet. I have also checked out the other site you recommended. Do you have any other information/websites that you could list for more information on rod building gear, supplies, an general know how? Is the hand wrapper spoken for?
  21. Heading to Jacksonville lake this afternoon any tips? Other than trying to stay dry lol!
  22. Thanks for the welcome!! Red
