The only negative to them being old is if they are lead and the new laws requiring non-lead shot for certain hunting purposes

I think possibly opening up your post to include more about what, when, where, how and why your fishing an area will help all of these guys dial you in more to options to try out. The one thing I did when I started to fish heavily was pick out one bait and figure it out. For me that was a crankbait. I would throw it sun up to sunset. After awhile I started catching fish and better fish. Then I started to progress into other baits. I now throw a crank with the upmost confidence and use it as a search bait. Good luck man you’ll figure them out.

Man I have done really well on strike Kings line up. From the 1.0 square bill to the 5xd. Also on their deep cranks the size is imprinted on the bill. If I had only one brand this would probably be it for me.

The fish jumping almost sound like carp. If it were me I would try a neko rig and a weightless senko fished on the weed edge and in any holes in the weeds

Green pumpkin is my go to color, usually with green and purple flake. I will use other varieties of it depending on clarity, light penetration, and time of year. On my home waters both the smallmouth and largemouth eat it well.

I will trig it and peg my weight about 6-15” up basically creating a small corolina rig. I’m fishing mainly big chunk rock

I remember getting to fish up there as a kid. Caught a ton of smallmouth, largemouth, pike and perch. That is a beautiful place to fish, and the wooden boat museum in I believe it was Victoria, NY was really cool to visit as well. Hope to take my kids there one day to fish the St. Lawarence.

@Sellersrobe well take advantage of that chance to learn from a more experienced angler and build on it. As far as it not being the big who cares? You landed a toad for a smallmouth and if you want something on the wall to remember it but then so be it. If not keep hammering away and you’ll get what you are looking for.

I’m sure you can find someone to do it. Don’t skimp on getting something mounted because in 20 years or less you will regret it. Keep digital copies of the photos, don’t loose the measurements, and save up. Or take your winnings and pump that into getting your replica done, instead of buying more tackle ?

Tarpon, snook, redfish and marlin would all be bucket list fish.

@TOXIC I encourage you to still do it. If financially you can afford to. It would be awesome to have insight at that level even if it’s just the opens or costa series. I’m a co-angler looking to move up to the state level. Think part of this maybe they are struggling to fill a field of co’s?? I mean what happens if a pro has a co angler back out the day before? Can they still fish? I think there is more to it than just reducing the number of people fishing thur-fri.

One thing I have found with mine, is sometimes the collar will “pop” backward, just push on it a little so the cup in a sense is facing forward. That’s one thing I didn’t know about till I fished it with someone more experienced at it than myself.

I throw a deep diving square bill from luck e strike hopefully the bill design is better as I love getting them deeper in that smaller size

I’m fortunate that we have a really good mom and pop store here. I thought about trying to save some money the other day on sale and such but in the end I bought 2 new reels plus line direct from them. They are actually very competively priced and the few extra bucks I did spend helps keep one hell of a store open
