Raising a Bass
You'll need a large tank... LARGE and a really good/big filter. Weekly water changes... live food daily. If the tank is set up with lots of cover and you can create something similar to its natural environment, the colors will be shown. and since you "have" the LARGE tank, I would say get yourself 2-3 more and you can have a little school. =P From my experience, fishes lose their colors when they are sick/stressed. If a bass can feel comfortable in a school and tank with lots of cover, their colors will display. Well when you have that set up, you can practice catching bass. =)

Do you wear eye protection while you fish ???
Oh man... I've been wearing polarized sunglasses lately but only to lessen the glare. This is a great post, I was always afraid that I'd get hooked somewhere. But never did it cross my mind that the eye was a possibility. I would never want that to happen to myself or my friends. It would be much worst if you hooked your friend in the eye. -.- Great post... you guys may have just saved a few eyes. =)

Ever got your lure back that you broke off??
How about a rod that got away?? My friends and I had a few rods lined up fishing for catfish. 2 of them were short, 3-4 feet poles. This was 2 years ago around August. It was getting dark, and we decided to reel the lines up only to be missing one of the short poles. We looked around and didn't see it. We figured that we caught one and it took the pole with him. We came back about a month later to fish and we hooked into what we thought were weeds but it was the short pole and brought it back. No fish at the other end though. Edit- Found that other post about finding rods. But this was our rod that we got back. =P

walking the dog
I have never seen walking the dog... nor have I read directions. I tried several things with the spook as I've heard "walking the dog" I didn't know what that meant... when I walk my dog, I just walk with it or sometimes it walks me. Although when I tried different retrieves, jerks, reeling speed... I found it cool with some slack line and a quick jerk I could make it go left and right. It seemed weird to be fishing like that, but it was an interesting concept. Although I have never fished it long enough to catch any fish with it because I didn't know what I was doing. Thanks guys for the feedback. =) I think I know what it is now but it would be great if someone had a clip to watch. =)

hmm... netting the fish?
Hey guys, I was just wondering if you guys try to reel the bass in as fast as you can... like me. When I do that, the fish still has a lot of energy by the time it gets to the boat and it flops around and sometimes flops off the hook. So before it gets to the boat, my friend would be ready with the net to net it up as fast as possible because we dont want to lose it before we take pictures =P Anyway... watching a bunch of vids, I see people get the fish in, and the fish doesnt flop around when its near the boat and they can easily grab its mouth with one hand. What's the trick???

Is this boat good?

What to do with...
Yes Sirs... I will hopefully not have any more badly hooked fish but if I do, I'll be sure to feed the eagles. =) I'm not too fond of eating fish with exceptions of catfish. We catch and release... and I get nagged all the time by my dad that I ALWAYS go fishing and show him pictures but I never bring him home a fish.

What to do with...
What do you do with a non-keeper size bass that has been hooked badly and is dying? In our case we kept it...

the tag on tagged bass?
Hmm, 2000 hrs per tagged fish. -.- then I would have to consider ourselves lucky. This was the second outing that we actually caught good sized fish. Other than that, we spent about maybe 80-100 hrs catching dinks and weed. The cool thing about that fish is after releasing it and out of sight... about 30 seconds later it jumped about a feet into the air about 3 feet away from the boat. Must have been a "thanks for not eating me" gesture. Either that or it was flicking us off. Well calculating, my next tagged fish would be... assuming I fish 12 hours a day. It would come out to 166.66 days of fishing. I fish about that long every one or 2 weeks, so 1.5 weeks So I'm guessing my next tagged fish will be in 36 weeks. ~ 9 months... sooooo long!

the tag on tagged bass?
oh man... i didn't know what that was and released the fish. i'll look out for the tags next time. are we suppose to remove the tag and then release?

the tag on tagged bass?
I attached a photo... do you think that's a tag? It looked almost like fish poop material just hanging from the top of the fish to me as it was released. I actually didn't see it until it was being released. I thought it could've been some parasite leeching onto him or some disease. Then I was looking at photos of bass and came across one with a tag that ended up in the same area, but the tag seemed stiffer in the photo. I was wondering if this was a tag... the yellow on top near the tail fin.

I see bait fish
I am beginning to spot lots of bait fish. I'm not sure what they are, they're about 1.5-2" and schools. I believe its either some sort of minnow or some fry of some sort? Well there are LOTS! I'm wondering why would a bass take my lure when there are these little guys just about everywhere. First of all, I know there are some bass in there because I've caught some. I seen a huge one jump in this little part of the lake. I consider this little lake, it's own lake because it only connects under the bridge with about 2" of water. That is a rise from this year so no big fishes can go in or out. I would say the lake is less than half a mile in circumference. I would say maybe 80 yards length and 60 yards width. guessing* 2 questions... Any tips on catching the big one? Why would fishes take a lure when I can see hundreds of bait fish everywhere... such as... a hundred here, a hundred there... oh like 2 hundred over there... and some there and so on?

Need help...
Went to the local lake, Lake Merced today and caught nothing. We seen some fish jumping... some huge and some smaller. They sure can jump high. We tossed in some senkos and trickworms weightless. We tried C-rigging a cuttail senko. We had a crankbait... kastmaster and tried a spook. No bites. There are a lot of baitfishes about an inch-inch and half. Water was colder... this is san francisco. Temperature here was around th 50's and cloudy. Henry
