  1. My biggest this year read 8lb 5oz on a berkeley digital scale. I think it was actually a little over 7lb. Caught it on a pop-r.
  2. All time favorite is the pop-r. Thats top of the list cause its one of the first lures I used after i graduated from earth worms at 6. Probably caught the most fish on black buzzbaits (from several companies) fished at dusk.
  3. I dont know how big that bait is but i have a similar bait that is about 2" long. I throw it when I see a ton of dragonflies around. The double props imitate the wings hitting the water when they get stuck on the surface. Twitched every 20 to 30 seconds I have caught some decent fish. I'm not sure that my explanation why they hit it is correct, but thats my theory and im sticking to it.
  4. maybe that was a tad sarcastic.... sorry, rough day I have caught 3 or 4 fish out of a school, so as long as you got a second pole you could definately catch more out of those fish. Just watch for tangles.
  5. I have a viento on an St Croix Avid rod and the thing is severely unbalanced. The rod feels like it wants to flip forward out of my hand at all times. Can someone recommend a good balancing kit please. How hard are they to install correctly anyways? The ones I have seen look like they just screw in
  6. I may just be bad at mutitasking but I find I miss a lot more strikes when im having a conversation. I dont think it scares the fish off though b/c they are still biting. As far as your proximity to the shore I think that depends on the situation. On a sunny day your shadow is going to spook every fish it comes close to. If the water is very clear the fish can probably see you better. I generally just try to keep my shadow away from the spot im trying to fish and to avoid sudden movements. Also I find the deeper the water is, the less I have to worry about any of that. 25 ft. may be a good rule of thumb from the spot you are casting to but not from the shore. People catch lots of fish much closer than that to boats a lot bigger and noisier than a fisherman.
  7. good product, just switched most of my reels over to it
  8. I bring this up after reading 5 different knot preferences to tie on a spinnerbait. Havent seen this posted before and I am curious what knots everyone uses. I know most of use several for different applications. I'm talkin the one you use most. Say to tie on soft plastic hooks, jigs, swivels, snaps, etc... I use the uniknot because its quick and its only ever broken on me when I knew I tied a bad knot but threw it out there anyways cause I was impatient.
  9. well i dont have a rod/reel recommendation but i guess i need to make friends with some of those Dicks Sporting Goods employees
  10. Yeah, no kidding avid, they packed as much as they could into this lure. The shallow crankbait/jerkbait/topwater I just wonder how well it does in each category. It looks like its mainly a topwater to me. Ohh by the way does anyone know if that back hook is feathered?
  11. Just would like your opinions on the deps buzzjet from anyone who has used it. How is the action on a quick rip? Does it pop back to the surface nosefirst as advertised? Does that lip on the front make it dart like a rapala or move more like a popper? Most importantly of all have you caught fish with it. Heres a link if you dont know what im talking about http://www.***.com/descpageDEPBAIT-DBJ.html#

  13. Heres a third thumb up for TW.
  14. I have had some occasional hookup problems w/ the fat ika myself. I think due to the large diameter making it slightly more difficult for me to set the hook. The Big ika sounds like it may solve that problem. I will have to try them out. Regardless of the hookup problems though the fat ika is my longest distance most accurate soft plastic to throw, its almost like using a casting plug. Is the big ika as floppy and as easy to tear up as a senko?
  15. I have heard good things about the X-tools scale from a couple different people. I have no personal experience with the scale but have heard it is very accurate from a few friends and i think a couple people recommended it in posts i have read.
  16. Ive finally tried this stuff after reading RW suggest it a few dozen times. I love the stuff on my spinning gear and my baitcasting. In fact ive got it on all my reels except my topwater rig. The only preoblem is I havent been able to find any large spools. Anyone know where I can get it in bulk?
  17. I am looking to buy a new loomis rod and am just confused as to which one i should get. I got it narrowed down to MBR844C or one of the jig & worm rods at 7' H fast action. I am looking more for a multipurpose rod than for a specific technique even though it will mostly be used for jigs and worm. What is the difference between these rods? Aside from $10.
  18. hmm i think there are, you may find what you looking for doing a search on it in the rods reels and lines section. Also check out a retailer like amazon that has both good and bad reviews of the products when you decide on a model
  19. Use a buzzbait. Black with a silver spinner. Use at dawn and at dusk. Mostly at dusk. 10lb should be fine. If it breaks get stronger line. And that first fish over a couple lbs will be real fun. good luck
  20. I fish some ponds that sound similar to the one you describe. At almost all of them I have caught the largest fish at the inlet stream. The most productive time seems to be right after a couple days of heavy rain when that stream is pushing a lot of water and bass food into the pond. At this particular spot in this senario topwater always seems to work the best. I use a popper or torpedo in early spring and a buzzbait or jitterbug in summer. Usually catch a lot of fish but almost every one over 4 lbs has been caught when dragging the lure across the current coming into the pond from the stream. And as you didnt list buzzbaits as something you fish with I would recommend them if you dont already use them. I catch most of my big fish on them.
  21. live ones work real well
  22. I always C&R myself, I dont even like eating fish. I dont like to see other people keeping large fish either. That said, whatever else the guy is he catches some impressive fish.
  23. If you can find out if the developer installed any rockpiles or other types of fish structure during construction that could be a big help as to finding fish or if there are any in there. One of my most productive ponds is about that size and looks just as featureless at first glance but was used as a quarry during construction and has several giant rockpiles scattered beneath the surface.
