Your go to bait?
thanks everyone for the replies. It's great to hear what everyone likes and uses when it's tough. I thought about going out today but those 30mph+ winds told me to just hold off. Haha

Your go to bait?
What's going on guys? What's your go to bait and favorite bait to throw? my personal favorite is a frog. Hands down a frog is the most exciting way to fish for me. Next is flipping a kinky beaver. Otherwise I love throwing a swim jig or spinnerbait. Go to when the bite is tough is a weightless senko around weed lines. I don't know why, but I can go all day walking around a lake catching nothing and tie a senko on and just do work.

What are you catching them with right now?
That storm we got tonight is really going to effect the fishing this weekend especially it being barley 40 degrees Saturday. A Ned rig you just work really slow along weed lines. Drag, hope and shake is usually how I'll work it. Really slow.

That's the only downfall of most lakes here. Covered in grass and hydrilla. It's hard to even throw a drop shot.

I can't get on a jerkbait bite. I've thrown it countless times. I can't find any mushroom tip jig heads so I can't throw a ned rig now. I did place an order on TW with a few sizes.

Which rods to invest in?
Well since this post I've bought the new *** 2 on sale at gander for 69 bucks and a falcon bucoo micro. I'm going to take the advice and keep testing different brand and buying the best I can until I make good money when I graduate and have the ability to not worry about price as much.

What are you catching them with right now?
Good luck! The bass at the most active lake I fish right now due to weather won't eat a work right now unless it's on a shakey head just sitting. These bass are being divas right now. I just want to start throwing frogs over the matted grass. They go crazy for a frog! I want to pick up a few life target bluegills soon.

I did catch a few on shakey head with a trick worm. I've just been catching lots of small bass lately. Haven't found momma and grandma yet.

I was throwing a red eye shad and rattletrap and couldn't find a bite today with a lipless.

What are you catching them with right now?
What are you guys throwing at those lethargic bass? The lakes aren't even up to 50 degrees here in iowa and I've been throwing mainly drop shots, jigs and jerk baits. I did catch one on a bladed jig just rolling it over the grass today. So what are you guys catching them with?

Which rods to invest in?
I think its my OCD to be honest. I do this with not only fishing gear, like using he same brand of jig, or plastic but in shoes. I generally only buy one brand of shoe. I would only buy one brand of truck, etc. I definitely see where you are coming from and of course take no offense it's just something that tens to happen. If I really like something I stand behind it. The main reason I am worried about warranty is I would much rather spend the 75 dollars loomis or another company charges and receive a new rod no questions asked, then to have to buy another rod completely. But I do conquer with what you are saying. d**n it that quote made me rethink my entire life haha. I actually almost ordered a few when TW had them for 69 dollars! I hate not being able to hold one before I buy something and now its to late but still fair priced of course.

I've always wanted to hold one because I myself really like them as well. Maybe I'm biased because Aaron martens is who I usually root for lol. I wish there was a retailer here that carried them.

Which rods to invest in?
would you prefer the avid series compared to the cheaper g loomis' such as the e6x or gl2s?

Which rods to invest in?
Hey everyone, I have a question about rods. I really want to invest in quality rods. Right now I have a Duckett Ghost, Dobyns Savy, *** black *** (older model and two Denali J2's. I like my rods for the most part but I want to start investing to a single brand line up with a good warranty program. I am also a full time college student that works full time so I don't have the money for those $400.00 g loomis'. I just fish recreationally right now (Although its everyday its not raining for hours at a time) but I am going to start fishing competitively this year. I love fishing. I am nothing short of obsessed and really want to convert to a single quality brand. I would like to keep the rods around $200 dollars.

Someone Please Clear My Mind.
In a farm pound*

Someone Please Clear My Mind.
The biggest bass ever got in iowa was a farm pound was just over 10 pounds so I'm assuming she was 12 but it could've been a big bass. Just spooled the revo up with 50lb braid and gonna fish the are until around 7 30. Changed the skirt and trailer to keep then guessing.

Someone Please Clear My Mind.
That's exactly what it was like just swimming the jig then the line got super heavy and took the rod out of my hand. I was holding it one handed leaning towards the water trying to loosen my drag then snap. It was a strike king fine wire swim jig 5/16th ounce the weed guard itself I'd very brittle. In my head I'm saying it was a carp or cat but part me thinks it big momma bass of the pond.

Someone Please Clear My Mind.
I was using a Polomar knot I tied right before I caught the 1.25 pounds so I don't ge damaged it. The pond is only 18 acres so I mean it's tiny. That's why I said the biggest I've ever hears is my signature picture which weighed right over 5 pounds.

Someone Please Clear My Mind.
There's also really big catfish in that little lake too so it could be been a big cat. I hate those things anyways.

Someone Please Clear My Mind.
Don't do that to me midwestf1sh! It's unheard of hear in eastern central iowa to catch anything over 6 pounds but it does happen in a blue moon but never tiny little public ponds i was fisbing. d**n that would've been killer. I'm hoping it was a carp but you better believe I'm going back tomorrow night and the following nights casting a swim jig in the same location haha.

Someone Please Clear My Mind.
Okay so while fishing today I lost I big fish and I'm hoping it wasn't a bass because it was huge and it's going to bug me for weeks haha. This pond here in iowa is public and as far as I know I've caught the biggest bass out of it at 5.2 pounds. I've to people who've fished ir for years and they always say their PB there is between 3-4 pounds. Anyways, I was throwing a swim jig and just got a dink at a pound maybe a little more and he was hanging in the hydrilla. I ripped a swim jig through it and bam. So I went to the main point and casted out and was reeling slow and trying to stay deep since it was windy the depth there was probably 8-14 feet. All of a sudden my line got extremely heavy and started pulling drag. I had my drag at max set not thinking about it. There was no initial bite just reeling and boom my line is heavy with drag being pulled. Before I could loosen my drag my line snapped. This pond holds bass, blue gill, crappie, big big snapping turtles, and really really big grass carp since it's just infested with hydrilla. I was using a 7'3 mh casting rod, abu garcia revo sx 7.1 reel and 17lb p line cxx. Is it even possible for a bass to snap 17lb copolymer in the matter of 5 seconds? I think I snagged a big ol carp because it just darted and snapped my line really really fast. I also got a mammoth snapping turtle there on 10lb copolymer. What's rhe odds it was a bass?
