  1. I got myself a dobyns savvy heavy jig rod and debating putting a flouro leader on it. I fish mainly muddy waters with occasional clear waters when I travel about an hour to fish lakes but that's weekend fishing because the bass are much longer and worth the drive. I have suffix advance superline 832 50# and was asking if a leader would be a good idea and if it's worth it.
  2. I'm in the quad cities area. Mostly fishing the lakes of west lake out in davenport near buffalo and a newer lake called lost grove but that lake is so high it's impossible to bank fish right now. We've just got thunderstorms daily the last week or so which has sucked.
  3. Been skunked the last 2 times out. Tried everything I had. T rigs, shaky heads, spinner and buzz baits, jigs, spooks and frogs and nothing. Don't know if it's been the constant rain or what. I talked to DNR at my go to lake and he said it was up 8 feet which was obvious but still. Can't pay for a bite right now.
  4. I will definitely call lews and see if that's an option. I got it when cabelas had a big sale online and don't have any return paperwork any longer. I love the reel just being on the bank most of the time I could use another higher ratio more often.
  5. I was wondering how to convert my 5:4:1 lews tournament MG reel to a 6:3:1 or similar ratio? The reel is practically brand new. Used 3 times. Can't seem to find much on the Web and would be willing to trade if interested.
  6. I got some plastics on sale the other day and the one I wish they had more of was a pumpkin fire 7.5 inch worm with a thumper tail. Every cast got a hit or hooked up with a bass. Got 10 for 1.97 and was so happy.
  7. I've always had good luck with any kind of frog in the morning and evening otherwise been loving the biospawn exostik on a shake head or t-rigged and vilecraw T- rigged. I was in wiaconsin and had better luck fishing square bills though. The smallies loved them.
  8. Hey guys I got a question. This coming week I will be in Hayward Wisconsin on Round lake. Fishing reports show huge largemouth and smallies and I want to get one haha. My grandparents live directly on the lake and have a dock that goes about 15 feet into the lake. I can't afford a guide and I am the only going to be fishing and there boat isn't running so I'm stuck fishing around the dock or on the dock. There is a lot of lay downs and tall grass around their land and wanted to know what you would rig up to try and reel one in if you only had a dock to work with. I have 2 setups if it helps. First is a Duckett Ghost 7 foot medium action with a Lews tournament mg reel. 5:4:1 Second is a shimano 6 foot 8 worm and jig rod medium heavy action with an okuma cerros 7:3:1 This is probably a stupid question just don't want to come back skunk'd
  9. Definitely need to try a swim bait ripping through there. Haven't even thought about trying that yet. Thanks zach!
  10. I definitely throw my frog out on top of all the moss and walk it in. That's probably my favorite thing to trigger bites. I actually haven't tried a jig at all so I might throw a trailer on one of those and see if I can get something to hammer it. It's funny reeling one in thinking it's your new best and when you get it in its just 5 pounds of moss coveting the bass haha. I did have luck on my spinner as well. Heading to round lake for the 4th and hoping to beat my 5 pound best this summer.
  11. It's no problem WIGuide maybe next time. Glad to hear you did alright on little round. Never have reeled in a big smallie so that's what I'm trying get into as well. Any tips on targeting them on round?
  12. I usually have to fish from the bank and the lake I mostly go to is filled with thick thick grass throughout the lake. It's a clear lake with most parts being about 4 feet deep around the banks but an 18 foot max depth in certain areas. Been using a lot of top water with decent success and I did get my best this summer at 5 pounds using a little poppr. I've always had good success texas rigging and was wondering if there were more options that I'm neglecting and should be doing. I'm new to bass fishing and just want to beat the 5 pounder I already got. Happy fishing.
  13. Hey guys was wondering if anyone was going to be fishing lake round in hayward July 3rd to the 7th? Going to be up visiting family and wanted to get on a boat and fish with a regular for a fee. Happy fishing everyone.
  14. Well I figured it out. I cut my line and completely relined it and problem solved. Not sure what exactly was causing it since I don't backlash that often but its fixed and casts better than I had hoped. I also got this fella tonight
  15. Im using a 7 foot duckett ghost medium action rod.
  16. Yes its a brand new reel. I got it for 75 bucks brand new when cabelas was having a sale and just took it out today for the first time before the weather got nasty. I didn't have much time to tune it but it was a little discouraging when it was only casting about 15 yards.
  17. Ive tweaked the brakes and spool tension to try and adjust it and it gradually started to gain distance. I had about 10 casts before the weather turned on me so I am hoping with more time i'll be able to fine tune it. Otherwise its as smooth as butter and I'm loving it haha
  18. Hello everyone I have a question about casting my lews. I cannot seem to get any distance with my cast. It casts about 10 or so yards and dies. With my okuma I can cast a mile. My okuma is a 7:3:1 ratio where as my lews is a 5:4:1 ratio I use for cranking. Any advice?
