  1. Your right Flatfish, I looked at the rope the day before it broke and thought, I need to put a new rope on next week. I thought about using the rope I use on my brush piles, rubber clothes line. It has wire inside of it and doesnt get weak and rot, but I didnt think it would slide through the grommet very well. I'll try the mower rope. Im afraid stainless steel cable would get against on of my rods on a long run and nick the line or scratch the boat.
  2. haha, thats a good one LM. " I know its getting fire. I touched the wires to my tongue. " No its a new trolling motor(70 lb digital) on an old gator mount. It has been eating a rope per yr. I'll try the lawn mower pull rope. Thanks
  3. What is the best kind of rope to use for my trolling motor, it seems like they break every year and always at the worst time.
  4. You need to check with the tournament organization or club that you will be fishing with. They will probably just want the boat to be legal per state rules, have two working live wells, and you both will need life vests. You may also need proof of insurance on the boat. They may have restrictions on motor size or boat length. Flares are not required in Oklahoma, but are always a good idea.Anything else like culling sys ect. is up to you, but not required. I always use one because culling takes up valuable time. Digital scales are a good culling tool and I've used them in both BASS and FLW affiliated tournaments so there shouldnt be a prob. Also some organizations will only let you use their weigh in bags.Good luck.
  5. I've had a running battle with chewing and smoking for the past 30 yrs. I have been tobacco free for 13 months now and Im have no urges to go back at all. I chewed redman and smoked menthol cigs since @ '75. But I decided I'd had better quit. I have worked my tail off all these yrs to retire at a lake and fish every day, I'll be damned if Im going to let tobacco screw that up. I used the patch from walmart, It seemed to help with the urges. I also eat sunflower seeds like a fricken parakeet, but it better than going back to chew. I wish someone would come up with a safe alternative to chew that was good, they would make a mint.
  6. what kind of ? is that? Drowned I guess ? Fish alone or with Eva Longoria in a bikini ;D ;D ;D
  7. I talked to the manager of one of the super walmarts here in Okla. City. He said ever since Mr Walton's daughter has become more involved, the store is moving more towards housewares and other areas and away from fishing / hunting. He said his dept. has been reduced in size every year now for 4 years in a row. Im not trying to blame it on a woman, just stating facts. Its funny though, if you go to the old wal marts in small towns, especially the one's near a lake, they have a great hunting and fishing dept. Just like they used to a few years ago at all the stores. I doubt they stopped selling guns because of a law suit because when you buy a gun, you sign a federal document stating that you are of sound mind. So if you commit a crime with the gun, you cant blame the place that sold it to you. I know the Democrats are trying to go after gun manufacture to blame them for crimes committed with their guns but the NRA is fighting them. Thank God for the NRA. The stores around here have a lot of stuff marked down right now, I just picked up a suspending rogue for $2 and some rattling carolina rig weights for $1 cant beat that.
  8. I play the harmonica. If your just starting maybe I can help.
  9. You may be asked to back his boat down the ramp before and after the tourney. Then help him strap it down, and possibly wipe the boat down. Clean all the trash out of his boat from the day. Don't spread your tackle out all over the place. Be ready to reel up, strap your rods down and move in an instant. When the boater decides its time to move, he ain't going to want to wait for you to pick up all your stuff. So keep it fairly well in order. You should always offer the boater some money $20.00 -$25.00 is the norm around here. He may want you to net his fish for him. If he does, and he hooks up, you need to get to the net as quick as you can. Don't expect him to do the same for you though. Some will, but not all. It depends if he's a pro or if your in a smaller tournament. Check out the co-angler clinic at http://www.flwoutdoors.com/. Good luck
  10. I was talking to the mgr. of the fishing dept in a wal mart at Okla City. He told me since Sam is gone, his daughter has moved the store more in the direction of housewares and away from sporting goods. His dept has continued to shrink in size every year for the past 3 yrs. They no longer sell guns, and the fishing section is half of what it was 2 yrs ago. But when you go into a wal mart thats in a smaller town, they still have a decent amount of tackle. For instance if you go to lake Eufaula. The WM in Checotah has a better fishing/hunting section that the giant WM in the city. So, if you thought WM put mom & pop out of business, heres a good opportunity to grab the customer they have turned away. Fishermen. Open a tackle shop that offers what WM doesnt.
  11. Calamine lotion helps. I dont get it but some guys that worked for me did all the time. They got some stuff from over the counter that was a clear gel. I cant remember what its called. Just go to wal greens or somewhere like that. You can get calamine at dollar general.
  12. No. I got the info from the FLW web site in the TBF "the bass federation" state contacts. Like I said I dont know these guys I live in Okla. but fish in a FLW/TBF club. I wish you were from here we would be glad to have you join us.
  13. Cherokee Bassmasters Ronnie Depew 918 Woody Ln. DANDRIDGE TN 37725 There ya go. Good luck
  14. Thanks, that was good.
  15. You dont have to fish the federation events, just the club events. If they are set up like we are, they have 3 qualfying tournaments to make the state team. But they also have a regular schedual they fish because not all the members will fish the qualifying tourneys. I'd contact them before you blow them off.
  16. kw, if your just breaking in to tournament fishing you should consider finding a small club and entering as a non boater or co angler. That will be much less expensive. And you can get a feel for what it takes to win some money. Your young enough that most anyone would welcome you to their club just to learn the ropes. Check with the BassMasters clubs the gut mentioned, or if ya'll have spring tackle shows like we do here, thats a good place to find fishing clubs. You can use your own boat to practice out of and then back boat during the tournament. Go for It man.
  17. gloomis7, I was actually trying to hook up kwchnl89 with some guys. I live in Oklahoma. But I visit the forum at the web site I listed because there are some good fishermen and hunters on there. Thanks DWB
  18. Im not sure why you would want to change the format of every tournament. That would seem to be very confusing and people wouldnt be willing to put up money if the rules arnt solid. Now if you get people interested, and they as a club vote to do it that way, then there wont be a problem. Thats the thing about a club, the people that make up the club decide what to do by vote.
  19. I guess the good old days of viewing fishing shows on the channel that owns the largest fishing organization is too much to ask. What was wrong with Beat Charlie Moore, Basscenter, Loudmouth, and BASS. Bass tech was even good sometimes. Thank goodness for Vs channel or we would be screwed.
  20. Colts win Bears cover the 7 pt spread. too many pts for this game. Bears QB will hurt them in this game, sure the D is good but with out Tommy Harris and their starting saftey out they arnt the same team. New Orleans doesnt have the clutch players like Indy, but Bears will give them a good fight. My money is on the Bears to cover but I doubt they can win.
  21. Fin I promise you will get bit on a 4" swim bait. I used them last year for the first time for smb and they were the bomb on Texoma Eufaula and Tenkiller. I caught a 5lber on Tenkiller with it last May. There aint a lot of smb in killer, but they do like that bait.
  22. A 4" swim bait is a deadly bait for big small mouth. You wont get the numbers with it, but when you hookup with a fish you can bet it will be 3lbs or better. What ever you do dont let them jump, those swimbaits are easy for the fish to throw. Also Norman deep little N in night train color(crome/purple) is great on small mouth.
  23. We will kick off our season Feb 24th at Konowa. We are a small club with 15-20 members. We always welcome new anglers and now would be a great time to get in before the first tournament of the year. We are TBF / FLW affiliated. Our top 6 anglers will Qualify to compete in the State TOP 6 tournament held this year on Lake Eufaula Oklahoma. So if you have any questions about our club holler back. Thanks DWB
  24. Anything I can do to keep him from getting any of my money, I'm going to do. I fished a tournament at Grand lake in Okla. this past weekend. After the tourney we headed home ,but needed gas, we drove right by a citgo but didn't stop. Hoping to make it to the next station I said I rather siphon gas out of the boat than give my money to that nut down there. We drove by that citgo all weekend to go to another station for our gas for the boat, ice, drinks, breakfast, etc. That aint sulphur Hugo, that my exhaust fumes you smell as I drive right by your gas station.
