  1. You can also try to punch a heavy jig through the weeds. Not all bass will head to deep water when its hot. In fact the shallow fish will take a bait better than fish suspended over the thermocline. Put a 1oz tungston weight on a sweet beaver and probe around for some active fish. Or just use it as they say, as a depth finder, you'll be surprised what it will tell you about the bottom of the lake.
  2. I sank 2 last week end. I got 4 aluminum patio chairs that were put out for the trashmen. I took 2 of them and cut the straps so they would hang downn then faced them back to back. Then I took 5 ft pieces of pvc pipe that I also got out of a dumpster, and zip tied it all together. We used rocks from the lake to sink them. The thing I like about these chairs is you can run a crankbait through them easier than wood, and they wont rot. A few weeks ago I sank a lounge chair with alot of pvc pipe on it. One thing I noticed when Lake Tenkiller was down 14ft I saw my brush piles made from trees had rotted and fell apart, thats when I started thinking I would use something else.
  3. Spots can be both a good thing and a bad thing. Most of the lakes in Okla that have spots in them are clear rocky lakes. Some have a slot limit on them 13-16" so people are encouraged to take them home, they are good eating. Crappie fishermen tear them up, and they keep them, thats helping with the over population problem. On some lakes there is no length limit on them at all, this has taken a while but we are starting to see some 3-4 lb spots a weigh-ins. Let your wildlife dept know about it, and dont practice catch and release with them. Our club has donated whole ice chests full of spots to a local boys club basketball team fish fry for years. Yes it is ok to eat spotted bass, & It might help you lake.
  4. As a co angler you arn't always at a disadvantage. Sure if your flipping you are going to be fishing used water, but alot of the time you can fish while the boater is busy with the trolling moter, re rigging or culling . To make up for not getting first shot at the fish you need to make more casts than the boater, you may not be competing with him but it helps your odds of catching an active fish. Senko is a co-anglers best friend !
  5. Our club fishes 2 night tourneys a year. In the past 8 years I've caught the most fish on plastics, like 10" red shad power worms. Last weekend I slayed em on 4" finess worms at night. My biggest bass in a night tourney was 5lber caught on a Bandit 200 gray/ black. Also black spinnerbaits. Clear water is always better than the muddy water at night IMO. I prefer stained to muddy water normally though in the day. we use blacklights to help see our line and always fish around the full moon so we can see better.
  6. I got some Woo Davies glasses from bass pro for $20.00 For the money they are real good.
  7. I'd target the brush with what ever plastics you have the most confidence in. Then parallel the deep stuff with a 4" swim bait or ledge buster or deep crank.
