  1. Man I'm sorry I missed your reply! How was it?
  2. Hey all, it's a beautiful morning in NOVA, and it's just going to get better as the day goes on. Anyone come down with a bad case of bassitus, spike a fishing fever, or wake up feeling blue in the gills? Had plans to go yaking with some friends, but sadly it didn't pan out. So if you're going out today and the only thing missing is a tag along new fishing friend, let me know
  3. Is fishing not allowed there? I did a paddling trip through loudoun, and that place was beautiful! I've looked for info about it online, but can't really find anything. I'm assuming access is closed, but if you have solid info about it, I'd love to hear it. I didn't even know it was there until I came upon it (I didn't plan the trip, the person who did was aware we would have to portage for a bit.) Can't believe that people would swim there though, seems awful dangerous, the caution signs in the water were enough to freak me out!
  4. It's decent fun. There's a couple large islands right there by the launch point. Weekdays are better than weekends, as it can get really crowded with families and larger boats. The boat launch is nice, large and paved, and there's a good sized parking area. Getting there early and going upstream aways and floating back is good for smaller boats. There are some areas with thick grass/vegetation, so keep that in mind when picking out your tackle. Water depth varies and there are plenty of little coves and nooks. DGIF will be around, so make sure you have all of your stuff with you to show you're a good legal fisherman, and last but not least, check the flow of the river before heading out, as it's way less fun when the water level is too high and the flow is super strong. I've done a trip from Kephart Bridge toAlgonkian, it was an enjoyable day. And launched from the park and gone upstream. I've paddled a bit downstream from the park, but not far or long enough to give any solid information. Hope that helps some.
  5. Vero, Stuart, and Fort Pierce are all closer than driving back to Ft. Meyers. If it's still around 8 Seconds in Okeechobee is a pretty fun night.
  6. I know someone from that area, I'll pick their brain and see if they have any good recommendations for you
  7. Well hopefully it picks up soon. My fishing buddy is recovering from a broken neck...so I need to make some new outdoor friends to play with ☺
  8. How central are we talking? Fishing and road trips go together like drinking and fishing
  9. With a little bit of skill, a small amount of trudging, and a couple of pointers from a world record holding angler and all around nice guy, I'm happy to report I got my babies
  10. When he gets to the point of being able to hold his arms up high enough to see the phone I'll totally hook him up I'm off to find him some tiny fish.
  11. It was a very freak accident, and I've pretty much gone from the baddest nature chick I know, to being terrified of venturing out into nature alone, overnight. But I'm determined to do this, so it's time to put on my outside clothes and pull up my big girl panties and get'er done! I dont like the idea of exploring a new place alone, but I just want to see him smile again.
  12. Hey all, I have a strange request, and I am really hoping you can help make a fellow angler smile. My bestest friend in the world, and sole fishing buddy, had a severe accident earlier this week - the day before we were going to take our first fishing trip of the season. When I say severe I mean it, he broke his neck, and while he isn't paralyzed he won't be fishing anytime soon. I'm looking for a good place around NOVA to live catch a few tiny bluegill to throw into a tank and then wheel him over for a "fishing surprise." It's just something to make him smile. I'll release them afterwards. Since he can't really go outside I want to bring the outside to him. As for the legality of capturing, I'm a science student and have several large holding tanks that are simulated rivers. They are mock ups of local ecosystems and I have the proper permits to catch, study and release. I've already pre approved this, I just have to document the location of the catch site. I promise I won't be fishing. If it's your sweet spot for something else I promise to not return (minus to release) and never share the location with anyone. You have my solmn word. I'm looking for somewhere around leesburg ish but willing to travel to herndon, reston, chantilly etc. Just somewhere easily accessible, with a good population so I don't upset the balance by temporarily removing some. I'm not usually looking for little bluegill so I'm drawing a blank. I just moved near Broad Run, but haven't explored any of it yet. Please help me out. I really, truly and honestly just want to put a smile on my best friend's face.
  13. But plot twist, I'm a girl! I love fishing, and just got my first kayak a few weeks ago, and I have to say I love it. I've lived in NOVA most of my life, and enjoy hitting up the many different places to fish in the area. So far I usually go out alone, or with my best friend, who is a guy, because it's hard to find girls that like to fish. I love wading, and being out on the water, as well as wildlife tracking. I'm a laid back person, I laugh at pretty much everything, and enjoy making others laugh and smile. I have a competitive streak, but the healthy kind where you beat yourself up, not the kind where you're a dick to others. That being said I love smack talk, and enjoy a little rivalry and bear poking among good friends. I tend to have a sarcastic sense of humor, and I'm not easily offended, so if you are we probably won't make for good fishing buddies. I have a part time day job and own two businesses, but I like to play hard and play often. My fishing pole resides in car, and last minute stops happen often. Spent the last few years fishing most of the private ponds in Middleburg, as I used to live out there and friends were always happy to oblige a request to fish. Now I'm back to exploring fairfax county waters, while still taking trips out to loudoun. looking forward to meeting some of the other "outside kids" of nova
  14. Hello all, I'm new here, but have lived in NOVA for a long time. I used to fish as a kid, and got back into it a couple years ago. My best friend and I love to go out every chance we get. We have a little john boat, and just got some kayaks a few weeks ago. I love nature, and being outside, and there's nothing better than spending a day on the water, other than wading through it! I love to crack jokes and laugh, and am a laid back person. I'm just a girl who loves to laugh and fish. I've been reading this site on and off for a little while so I figured I might as well sign up and say hello
  15. Tyson's Corner in Va, also stations in Reston and Vienna (both also Va) Tyson's will give you the busy city feel, and traffic is consistently thick. Reston will give you the suburb vibe, sprawled with congestion during commuting times but light during the day. Vienna gives you the old town feel, and in general traffic will be thicker longer than in Reston. All are safe for your car.
