  1. Yeah I think I probably horsed the fish in a little too much so that didn't help.. I think just loosening the drag and playing em a little longer will be good.
  2. Medium action 6.5 rod and medium 7 btw
  3. Im using 30lb braid on all my baitcasters because I like the way it casts. Just recently I've had a couple fish throw a crankbait and was wondering if a mono leader should be used for more forgivenes?
  4. Thanks for all the input guys. Think I've narrowed it down.
  5. My dad is using 30 lbs power pro braid on a spinning reel, about once every time we are fishing the line gets loops In it on the reel so that he has to take a bunch of line off and get the loop out. Sometimes its even had enough even cut some length off because it is knotted. I have no problems like this with my baitcaster.. Wondering why this is happening?
  6. I disagree with many people suggesting a heavy rod. I have caught plenty of fish on medium with #30 braid. Would a heavy rod help in some situations? Probably but not needed.
  7. A while ago I was pike fishing in a canoe with my dad and we were carving our way though rocky outcrops and cliffs. I was just messing around throwing a spinnerbait about 20 feet from the canoe and letting it work its way down the banks. As I was pulling it in, I got a sudden strike from about right under the boat the broke my pole because my drag wasn't set right. I will be back for you this summer!
  8. Top water frog hits are the best, keep working that thang. Go pack!
  9. Very well explained. Thanks!
  10. I have recently been getting into froggin'. I started out with the frog on a spinning rod with light mono. One afternoon I had about 7 strikes with only 1 caught. The frog goes completely under water then floats back up. Should I be setting the hook sooner and harder? I have also made the switch to a baitcaster with 30 lbs braid so this should help with long hook sets. Please any input is welcomed.
  11. Been fishing the same lakes for a while. Can anyone recommend good lakes for bass or other fish in southwestern lower MI or da western UP? Thanks
  12. 5 fish is a good day for me usually.. Multiple 2 pounders pretty common, any between 3-4 pounds are very nice in my frequented lakes.
  13. Top water froggin' and jigs baby! Let's go!
