  1. Thank you I was thinking a two power might be to light but from everything I read the 742 extreme has a little more back bone to it. I might try the 733 in the xp lineup.
  2. Diawa tatula sv. They can easily be found on eBay in your price range
  3. Thank you so your saying the 742 will have enough back bone to use weightless Texas rig? And I have also heard about this rod but I thought Dobyns scrapped the idea because they couldn’t get it right?
  4. Looking to buy a new Dobyns spinning rod but not sure where to start as this is my first spinning rod from them. The baits I’ll be fishing will mainly be light shakey heads under 1/4 oz and weightless soft plastics. Won’t be fishing around much cover except for rock and occasionally brushpiles. Haven’t decided if I want to go to the extreme series yet or just stay with the xp’s. Do any of you find that the extremes are worth the extra hundred or so? How to the actions compare to each other? I prefer a softer rod for fishing smallmouth. Some of the models I was looking at would be the 742 in the extreme or the 732/733 in the xp line up. And the last thing to add would be this rod would be paired with the new tatula lt spinning reel which is a seriously light reel. Would any of these rods have trouble balancing well with this reel or should I go to one of the shorter 7 foot rods.
  5. Super spook or Evergreen Jt with Zoom horny toad being a close second
  6. Find the American legacy fishing store on eBay and look at the diawa casting reels. Only one I saw which is the one I got is the right handed 7.3 ratio. Then use the code for the final price of the 105 dollars.
  7. And that is exactly what I did! That reel can’t be beat for that price.
  8. Any body else see the new frogs from booyah? Definitely looking forward to doing a side by side with the teckel this summer! They say they should be in before spring
  9. Pretty sure it’s the same thing but I checked on amazon and they have 2 for 32 dollars.
  10. War eagle has been my favorite for the past few years although I do plan on trying the new spinnerbaits from Dobyns this spring. They look like a quality bait.
  11. I have both and performance wise I can’t tell the two apart. I have fished them both now for over two years and have not had one problem with either. If it was me I would go with the supreme over the xt.
  12. Spike it definitely works but don’t try jjs it will ruin it
  13. I also prefer a med fast rod for chatterbaits and spinnerbaits. The set up I use is a dobyns champion 736 glass paired with a tatula ct. The reel can easily be found for 100 dollars and the rod right now is on sale at dobyns website for 170 in the mislabeled section along with the 735 glass. The rod was designed for fishing chatterbaits and has a soft tip to really let the fish load up and the back bone to set the hook. It handles baits 3/8 oz to 3/4oz really well. I have also used this set up for larger topwaters and medium diving crankbait with success. I don’t think you could go wrong with the setup in your price range. It’s a very versatile and well balanced set up.
  14. You could always just change the blades out for new ones it doesn’t take long at all and would save you a few bucks versus buying new baits
  15. I have probably caught the most fish on the original floater out of all of them but I also have fished it the longest.
  16. I have used Berkeley trilene and suffix siege with great results. I would check out copolymer lines too tackle warehouse has McCoy brand on sale for 20% off right now and they make some great line. Regardless of what brand you buy I would highly recommend some good line conditioner such has kvd line and lure. That stuff is no gimmick!
  17. If I had to guess it looks like it's just the lighting that is diffrent.
  18. I forgot all about those! I have some in a box somewhere I might have to dig those out
  19. Check Amazon I just looked there and they have them for 85 plus free shipping

  21. 4/0 owner light wire twistlock hooks. Same hooks I use for weightless senkos too.
  22. I have no experience with dobyns spinning rods but out of those two if it was me I would choose the 702. I prefer softer tip rods when throwing light swimbaits and have had no trouble with hooksets
  23. Great rod I have one that I fished with all last summer/fall and love it. I have used it for mainly weightless Texas rigs and tubes but have used smaller paddle tail swimbaits with good results.
  24. Check out McCoy mean green. Very little memory if any at all and has great abrasion resistance. Also it wouldn't hurt to add some kvd line and lure to your list. That stuff is no joke
