  1. I might actually look at the new Daiwa Fuego which American Legacy Fishing has on sale for $77. It has 12 bearings and the Magforce Z cast control, looks good too.
  2. I went with the medium. I am going to pick up a 6'6" Berkley Lightning Rod Shock medium/heavy casting rod at my local Wal-Mart on clearance for $16 to use for heavier swim baits and lures, that is rated up to 1.25 oz. Once I learn how to use my bait cast reel that will come in handy :).
  3. My BC rods handle 1/4 - 3/4oz. I guess like I said I'd like to have versatility so even if I don't have a lot of 1oz. lures I'm thinking maybe having the option might come in handy. I've even seen where people regularly go a little over the maximum rod lure size so maybe if the MH is rated up to 1oz. it could possibly handle 1.25 - 1.5oz. (like the Savage Gear 6" 3D line through swim baits)? I guess I'd like a rod that could handle a heavier bait but also still be able to throw senkos, craws, flukes, lizards and other similar plastic baits as well as crank baits.
  4. I'm getting a new Fenwick HMG spinning rod and just wondered which would be more versatile, the 7ft. medium with a lure weight of 1/4oz. - 3/4oz. OR the 7ft. medium/heavy with a lure weight of 3/8oz. - 1oz.? I fish with a wide variety of lures, everything from senkos, rage craws and zoom lizards to crankbaits to frogs to smaller swim baits and need a rod that could adequately handle most of those.
  5. I thought somebody said that a very well known big name company actually makes replacement parts for these reels that fit perfectly in one of the reviews but they wouldn't name it "out of respect for Academy"...is this true? The review said if you research the right place online you'll find it but I couldn't...anyone else try this and have luck?
  6. so maybe use some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip?
  7. What's the best way to do that?
  8. Okay, I'm looking at getting a 2nd casting reel and have my eye on the all new Shimano Caenan 150. I know most Shimano guys will tell me Shimano reels start at Citica but the fact is I don't have the money for those, I am eyeing some eBay auctions for the Caenan and should be able to get it at a much more reasonable price for my wallet. Anyhow, I notice that the Caenan doesn't have the adjustable brake dial on the side like my Lew's does...my question is how do you adjust the brakes than?
  9. I was suggested by the Cabelas salesman to use a 1/4 oz. jig so I bought some to go along with the baits but after getting home and trying to rig it the hook appears too short and is coming through ahead of the indentation where it is supposed to come through near the head of the bait. I tried to push the Keitech forward over the jig but it didn't seem to work very well. How does everyone else rig these baits? I can't wait to try it out, bass season just opened where I live :).
  10. Another vote for the Pflueger President, you can get a 6930 size on Jet.com for $43 when you use the "triple15" code to get the extra 15% off and it's free shipping. I also have a Lew's Carbonfire size 30 HS reel and like it very much...got that at Dicks Sporting Goods on clearance for $25 but the new model that replaced it is selling new for $49.99. Either of those reels would work well for you.
  11. But I'm like a T-Rex...I have small thumbs...lol...j/k. I also didn't know if I could find a better used reel for the same money in the Flea Market?
  12. Well, they don't have the Magforce Z cast control...just the regular Magforce, is that a big deal?
  13. How good is the Daiwa Exceler 100? Gander Mountain usually sells these for $100 but they have them on sale for Father's Day for $50. I would like to get a right handed bait cast reel to go with my left handed one so that I can switch on and off and get used to casting both ways.
  14. My rod is a 7ft. Number Eight Black Out medium action. I'll probably go with the 15lb. braid.
  15. I bought the 7ft. one tonight. They have a 6'6" left that isn't a trap caster but is a M or MH and is $25 and they have a 7ft. Pitchin' Rod that for some reason is still $99.
  16. Is Power Pro Slick any good? That appears to be the cheapest at Dick's, just wondering if there's a reason for that. Scratch that...employee didn't know what he was talking about...they have the Power Pro Spectra green too according to online.
  17. Okay, so Bass season is almost open where I live and I can finally try out my new Pflueger President Limited Edition spinning reel i bought back in February with the tax refund. I am planing to spool it up with braid as I've never tried it before and figured this would be a great time to start since this reel comes with a braid-ready aluminum spool but when I look at the specs for my size 30 reel under braid capacity it says that 8lb is the highest pound test it's made for...is this correct? If it holds 6 - 8lb mono/flouro shouldn't it be able to handle an equal size diameter braid line (which lets say we're comparing to 6lb flouro would be somewhere in the 20lb range (guessing here, please feel free to correct)? What do others have on their President LE reels?
  18. Okay, I found a really sweet deal in my local Wal-Mart, $25 for a Falcon Bucoo Trapcaster 7ft. MH rod. It has micro guides which i have never tried before...are they any good or should i look for a deal on a rod with regular guides?
  19. Well, hard to tell without a reel on it but it felt okay...seemed to be light but had decent backbone and the tip had good bend to it. Both the spinning and casting felt decent. I think I'll probably get that Falcon Bucoo trapcaster for $25 first as I'm relatively sure that rod will be well worth the money.
  20. Unfortunately my frugal-ness dictates I find someone with first hand experience that can give me an honest assessment before I lay down any money for a rod...even $20 :).
  21. I saw these last night at Wal-Mart on clearance for $19.99, are they any good? I'm not sure of the McStick color scheme (bright red and yellow)...don't know if I dislike it or if I think it's kinda' cool looking...lol. They have both casting and spinning rods available for the same price.
  22. Is a Casitas in the $80 price range? Maybe corrosion resistance? Weight? Even thought the Caenan has been totally redesigned?
