  1. You've all convinced me...lol. My friend has a Tackle Warehouse order going in a couple of weeks and I've zeroed in on the Duo Realis Pencil 110 in the Neo Pearl and the Prism Gill colors as the ones i would like to get. As for the poppers, I have a couple of Hula poppers now so maybe I'll go with those until I can ask for some nicer poppers maybe as an anniversary gift or something ..
  2. Just making sure I'm not being redundant ;).
  3. Yeah, I use the term necessary very loosely. I just basically am wondering if i should make a space in my tackle box for a popper and a walker as space is becoming increasingly limited with the influx of new lures this year...lol. If it's a walker I'd like an easier to learn walker as i don't have much experience with these baits and i know some are easier to walk than others. Of course all of the lure makers rave about how easy their product is to make walk but of course they are trying to sell you so opinions from other fishermen who have them are really what I'm looking for. Same goes with poppers!
  4. Okay, I already have 4 of the Whopper Ploppers (2 in 90 and 2 in 130) and I just got a couple of the Pompadours. I haven't fished with any of them yet except one of the 90 size WP's and that generated a couple of break the water hits by bass and caught a couple of chain pickerel. My question is this, should I add a popper bait like a Megabass Popmax, R2S Bubble Pop etc. and a walking bait like a Lucky Craft Sammy, Duo Realis Pencil, KVD Sexy Dawg OR would these baits be pretty redundant to the WP's and Pompadours I already have? I prefer variety and don't want to get too many baits/lures that basically do the same thing.
  5. Would upgrading the rear hook to a bigger size also accomplish the same thing as far as keeping the Bumble Bug right side up?
  6. Does anybody on here use these lures with any success? I know I've seen fish eat grasshoppers on the water and the same goes for bumble bee's and horse flies so it would seem a naturally effective bait.
  7. I thought you wanted the bait to stick relatively straight up (or at a 45 degree angle) on a shaky head hook to imitate a feeding bait fish or something like that?
  8. Hmmm...if they don't float I would think there would be other better options for a shaky head presentation.
  9. Does it make a difference between the finesse or the trick worm? Is there a difference in salt content?
  10. Which of the floating worms is best for shakey head fishing? I have the Owner shakey head hooks but am wondering which worm/craw would do best on them.
  11. Yes, pictures showing the difference between the old hooks and the new hooks would be very helpful. I just got 4 of them within the past month from Tackle Warehouse...Loon and Bone in the 130 and Perch and Blue Blood in the 90. The Loon and Blue Blood came right away but the Bone and Perch were on backorder and just came a couple days ago. I didn't think to compare the hooks but maybe i should.
  12. I don't have the white belly...didn't get the Green Frog, got the Yellow Frog instead so I only have a black belly with the Black Bone and a chartreuse belly withe the Yellow Frog.
  13. Okay, so I was able to get a couple of the larger size pompadours...I got them in Black Bone and Yellow Frog but I was wondering what other colors are good (especially in the New England area)? I was tempted to go with the Green Frog instead of the Yellow but it didn't seem to pop as much color-wise and I figured I had a dark one in the Black Bone so maybe I should go with a bright one in the chartreuse Yellow Frog but I'm wondering if i made the right call?
  14. Yup, cover is definitely in my future...for all reels spinning and casting. I just ordered something from Bass Pro not long ago and their deal of the day was reel covers for $2.99...I said no thanks but now i sure wished i had said yes...DOH!
  15. Okay, here's the scenario...went fishing on Saturday, put rods and reels in the boat and went to the pond. Noticed after getting there that back road dust was on everything. Didn't end up using the casting reel but I would like to make sure that the dust doesn't adversely effect an expensive reel so how would i clean it (as you can tell I'm new to owning a casting reel, it's a Lews Tournament Pro)?
  16. This is the truth! I tried fishing a reservoir on Sunday and it was terrible with the speed/ski boats all over and jet ski's too...you can't tell me that with all of those boats and PWC racing all over creating huge wakes that the fish aren't a little spooked. There was a particular boat loaded with what looked like college kids racing up and down right in front of a prime fishing spot all day and the wakes were huge and caused myself and family in our little 16ft. aluminum boat to be tossed around like a bobber. The idiots were just too close and they didn't even care what their wakes were doing to other people trying to enjoy the reservoir...jerks!!!
  17. I tried out my WP 90 for the first time this weekend. I have the Blue Blood version but Perch is on it's way :). Any how, I too find that keeping the rod tip up a bit helps with the "motorboat" action. I didn't catch much...two pickerel...but had a couple of strong hits where it was user error that i got too excited and went for the hook set too early before the fish had it in his mouth good...guess the splash of the fish attacking it got to me...lol. I fished it on a spinning setup with 15lb braid. I do have the 130 size in Loon (with Bone on it's way) but have yet to fish with it as I just got a big enough spinning reel to handle that size lure and haven't gotten it spooled up yet.
  18. Leaning towards keeping this reel and spooling on 15lb mono or maybe 50 - 65lb braid. It's a $90 reel that was on sale for $50 and I got an extra $10 off so I only paid $40 for it.
  19. I have been to the Hooksett BPS too as it's the closest to me being up here in Vermont and the last time I was there about 3 weeks ago or so I too was disappointed. They were out of a lot of stuff, lot's of empty pegs and for any of the more popular lures (like the WP)...forget it. I was speaking to one of the staff (younger kid with dark hair) about it and he said that some of the depleted selection had to do with New Hampshire's new "no lead" law that required BPS to box up and send out a bunch of their stock to stores in other States as they could no longer sell it because it was against the law. Too bad, it used to be a decent store. Now i wait and get most of my stuff from Cabelas out in Hamburg, PA when I visit my Dad. Now that is a store...250,000 square feet of Outdoor awesomeness .
  20. I like mine! I haven't caught any fish on it yet but I love the action and the way it just sits verticle with just the head peeking out of the water just like a real frog does. Don't get it near weeds though or she'll snag up real quick. I try to get as close to lilie pads as i can without actually going into them. Despite no fish I'll continue to use it as I know it's just a matter of time with a bait that looks and performs this good .
  21. I never go fishing for more than 3-4 hours at a time and usually change-up setups periodically during that time so i wouldn't ever be making hundreds of casts per day with this reel.
  22. Soooo, should I keep this Daiwa reel or return it and use the Pflueger President and 30lb braid?
  23. I'm using my Fenwick HMG 7ft. Medium Heavy spinning rod for these baits. The WP 130 weighs 1.38oz. and the Savage Gear 3d 6" trout weighs 1.25oz., my rod is rated up to 1oz. I currently have Pflueger President LE size 30 reel with 15lb Power Pro braid on it. According to the mono capacity it takes up to 8lb test so I could conceivably put on 30lb Power Pro braid but not sure if that would be big enough for those baits or function as well as mono for top water. If the Daiwa reel is really unnecessary it can be returned to DSG as I still have the receipt and the box with all the paperwork and the reel hasn't been used yet but I'd like to make sure it absolutely isn't necessary before returning it.
