  1. Yeah I bought this in thanksgiving timeframe. My transducer is gt40tm. It rocks. I paid $500 at cabelas but bass pro is advertising $550. Maps are great too. After giving the Humminbird and lowrance units a good look over, the garmin was the clear choice for me. I'm probably going to buy the chirp version for the front of my boat so I can use the panoptix transducer.
  2. Can't beat the garmin 73sv Has awesome maps , gps, sidescan, downscan, split frequency traditional sonar, and can be found for $500 or $550 at the bps spring sale. I got mine at cabelas for $500 last thanksgiving online. Garmin is offering the most value for the money of any of the brands right now. Beat that for $500.
  3. I've only had it out 2 or 3 times but I suppose it could be my fault. Thanks for that video.
  4. Housing rotated. Came that way on my brand new ranger as far as i can tell.
  5. Look at that skeg, it isn't vertical. Is that alright? It doesn't seem right.
  6. Thanks for the suggestion. I just moved the front winch mount back by one bolt hole (3"). That got me into this: This performed perfectly going to the spot at 51mph, but on the cruise back, the depth gage was blinking. Half of it is in the water stream, and the other half is behind the hull of the boat due to the angle of the rear hull.
  7. 2015 73 sv garmin A short afternoon of not finding any fish at an unfamiliar area of my river. I ran up on these guys leaving this area. They said they couldnt get the fish to bite anything they threw. Right as they left I threw a rattletrap about 30 yards from where they were and caught a 2lb'er. I threw for a while longer and never caught another.
  8. Cabelas had the 2015 model for $500 at thanksgiving time and bps will have it for $550 here in the spring sale. I wanna get the 2016 chirp model for it's panoptix compatibility now though ($850).
  9. Maybe I wasn't clear enough in the op. This lever doesn't dog off on anything. It doesn't hold anything up. I can't get the motor high enough, no matter what I try, for it to 'tilt stand' up or whatever else you want to call it. The question is, should this work, what needs to be done for it to work. It sure does look nice, but it doesn't engage anything. Does the trim sensor (or whatever it is) need to be adjusted to make use of this kickstand?
  10. The question is how to engage it. Unless my motor goes to nearly horizontal, it doesn't come close to being useful. Am I supposed to adjust the travel endpoints to get further travel out of the motor trim? Why doesn't this work on my brand new boat?
  11. I think mounting the transducer where it needs to be mounted and then cutting away the runner on the trailer that interferes may be the way to go. That will be nearly pain free, except for the trailer.
  12. It appears to be useful if my motor were to rotate to near horizontal ...otherwise it doesn't come close to being able to dog off on anything.
  13. I am unaware of a "split " or shoot through that you speak of. Is it possible to use a garmin aftermarket with a Lowrance oem transducer? That doesn't seem intuitive to me.
  14. Okay, the Mark 5 Lowrance unit that I'm replacing has an in-hull puck glued to the hull bottom where that carpet covered skid runner supports the boat below where I'm holding the new side view transducer. I'm holding the sideview transducer where the boat water temp sensor hole has already been drilled. What I want is to be able to tell depth while at full speed of 50mph. It looks to my inexperienced eye like I will have to make some compromise. ..either buy a small in dash gage that will use the current in-hull transducer for depth readings at all times, or use the mark 5 for such, and then use the sv transducer at lower speeds? If i mount that transducer right there where I have it, how well could it work at speed? Not very good is what I assume. Please school me on the smartest thing to do ! There does not appear to be anywhere that I can mount the transducer and have it work and also not get damaged by the trailer. Should I just mount it low and cut back the trailer runner so that it won't hit my transducer? Best case scenario would be to use the garmin gt40 tm for everything up to boat top speed of 50mph. Second best would be to use the puck transducer already installed for depth and use the garmin transducer up to xxx? speed? I really don't want to see the Lowrance mark 5 on the boat ever again. A little depth-only gage would be fine though. Please advise.
  15. Frogs. Frogs. More frogs.
  16. If Humminbird has something going for it, it would be the Minn Kota Ulterra and Terrova compatibility. You can still spot anchor without a networked gps unit, and ultimately you can buy the i-link with gps to compensate if that's the way you want to go...I really like the thought of using a trolling motor with integrated transducer, but I like the thought of using Garmins panoptix transducer much more. As far as the crispness of sideview vs another, I didn't notice that there was much of a difference in the display mode at the stores. I purchased my Garmin units based on value per dollar and ease of menu navigation/user interface. The sideview on my 73sv looks great to me, but it's the first sv unit I've owned. It does drive me a little crazy that garmin shows temperature and speed to the hundredths on the front main display. 45.25*F is rediculous, it makes more sense for speed, but 2.65mph is still an extra digit not needed imo. Is there even a reason to show temperature to the tenth? I'd be cool with 45*F.
  17. Garmins offerings are vastly superior to Lowrance and Humminbird right now. I don't know about Raymarine.
  18. I'll do my job with vastly superior hardware :
  19. It's the best choice for now until the others catch up. I have two garmin units, a 43dv and a 73sv...and am considering another purchase.. it's really too bad that the Humminbird units aren't up to snuff with the garmin units. ..I much prefer to buy American made and engineered when possible...but Garmin leads the pack right now, so that's where my money goes. It's really even funnier that people are so brand loyal that they have no clue what other manufacturers offer...all they know is Lowrance, or Humminbird, because thats all that they've had. .. Take a fresh look at the offerings. There is a clear leader.
  20. I bought my 73sv for $499 back in November from Cabelas online.
  21. This will have to suffice for a few weeks or months. ..however long it takes me to get it done right. 4 coats of outdoor polyurethane make it look shiny nice.
  22. Yesterday is was 599 today its 649.
  23. Plastic? And it's supposed to live on boats that move 50-60mph? Am I missing something?
