  1. I rip the nose off as they get torn. The walmarts by me usually have the zoom super flukes for around 3 bucks a bag, so If I go through a bag a trip I don't worry about it. I use them on a ewg most of the time.
  2. Now start tying your own skirts! It has become my new activity I do while commercials are on tv.
  3. Heavy grass is perfect for a 1/4 oz swim jig, pulled through the top of the grass. I have had great luck on all white swim jigs, with a pearl trailer, and bluegill color jigs with a watermelon colored trailer.
  4. Nothing lately, but did a ton of wheeling in college in my wrangler. There is not a whole lot of places you can't go with a well set up wrangler. I now in the process of fully restoring it, just got the frame back from powdercoat. Built a small block Chrysler for it last winter.
  5. You will have to try it and let us know, I cannot see that working because the gliding action of flukes on a donkey rig is what allows it to work. You could make a simple wire rig to separate them. Look at the tandem road runner rigs for ideas.
  6. Enjoy! Looks like you found a well maintained one.
  7. Biggest thing would be to bounce the motor around and watch for the transom to flex. Also not a bad idea to test the compression on the motor and make sure all the cylinders have even compression. I paid 3,000 for my 3 series, but it needed electronics, trolling motor, and some work on the trailer. A decent ready to use boat would bring around 4-5500 in the Midwest.
  8. I own a 1984 330v, fairly similar boat, just 10" shorter. The ranger hulls are very overbuilt in comparison to other boats of the era. The mercury black max outboards are some of the most reliable outboards ever made, with clean carbs and good fuel they will run forever.
  9. Tying swim jigs has became a new hobby for me. I don't really save any money, but I can make them in the exact colors I like, and the exact strand count I like.
  10. take a spike it marker and a sharpie to a sliver or white tube.
  11. I would start with two basic colors, white and bluegill. I use 1/4 oz for water 1-5 feet, and 3/8 for anything deeper than that. The most durable trailer that works great is the rage tail menace. I would get a pack of watermelon red, and a pack of pearl white. Siebert outdoors is a great source for both, I tie my own jigs but source the heads from him since they are such good quality.
  12. I recently replaced the carpet in my ranger. It was about $175 in carpet and supplies (glue, box of utility knife blades, scraper and glue brushes). It took three full days off worth of labor to get it done. My old carpet came up nice so I was able to use the old pieces as templates. I used contact cement to stick it down, it worked awesome.
  13. Get the Lund, well worth the extra money. I bought a tracker 1542 last year and it was falling apart after one summer of use, the transom cracked, and numerous rivets leaked. I decided to cut my losses instead of trying to deal with the warranty department. As far as motor goes I had a 2003 Mercury 20hp 2 stroke on mine, it was an awesome motor, lightweight and plenty of power even with two people a cooler and gear. I used a 55lb power drive bow mount trolling motor and it was plenty of power to pull it around. If I were to do it again I would probably go with a cable steer motor instead of electric steer.
  14. Follow the wires back, trailers are about as simple as it gets when it comes to wiring. Whenever I get a new trailer I rip all the wiring out and start fresh. It usually costs under 50 dollars in parts and an afternoon of my time to have years of trouble free use. Get yourself a test light and a set of retractable test leads from the auto parts store. Watch some videos on YouTube about trailer wiring.
  15. I have had really good luck with a 7" powerbait worm with a few inches bit off the front of it
  16. I bring two rods, usually a medium heavy casting set up, and a medium spinning set up, and one 3600, in which I keep a handful of hooks, some weights, a couple of square bills, a spinnerbait, a swim jig, and a wiggle wart and a shad rap. This combination of tackle works great, and I adjust the colors for what body of water I am going to that day.
  17. I have an elite 4 hdi on a ram mount on my kayak. I glued the transducer inside my hull. It works great for how I use it
  18. All of the walmarts in the Midwest have them.
  19. I have had great luck with the strike king 1.5 line, orange craw and Tennessee shad have been great colors. I also like the rapala crankin rap.
  20. Born and raised in Madison, I have fished Mendota exclusively my entire life. It's the most heavily pressured lake in the area, the challenge makes it a lot of fun for me.
  21. I have a sit on top pelican, I cut a hole just big enough to fit the transducer through, glued it in the bottom, and mounted my ram mount over the hole, and sealed it all up with 3m 5200.
  22. Where did you find the exo for $99?
  23. Just picked up one in the smallest size for crappie fishing in the next couple of weeks. It doesn't suspend quite perfect out of the box, but has great action.
  24. anything over small chop would make the boat pound really bad, and you would get soaked. A modified v or v hull works better if you fish on bigger lakes often.
  25. Made some progress, wet sanded and buffed the top cap, still need to work on the bottom some more. The next step is some fiberglass repair around the bow eye.
