South Florida Bass Guys
Don't post many reports but here's one from yesterday;Caught a canal slam of largemouth bass, peacock bass, oscars, mayan cichilds, and bluegills for a quick fishing trip.Temperature was +90 degrees with low wind. Water level is up but the bass are still biting good everywhere I have fished in South Florida.

Folks, Don't Be This Guy
Here's a article about this situation; http://www.magnoliareporter.com/news_and_business/north_louisiana/article_b09dceba-6da3-11e8-9e5c-6fce4454338c.html

Tiny torpedo vs baby torpedo vs chug bug for largemouths/peacocks/snakeheads
Choose whatever color you feel most confident with. For line I like to use 8-12 pound test mono when I using the Heddon Torpedos. I prefer using the baby torpedo over the tiny torpedo.

Peacock bass like propbaits as well as poppers, jerkbaits, crankbaits, lipless crankbaits, jigs, etc.Snakeheads will hit the same lures a bass will hit but I have done best with hollow belly frogs and soft plastic frogs.

post fishing AHH HAH moment
It's always nice when you finally figure out what the bass want in a area you are fishing in. Makes fishing much more enjoyable!

Folks, Don't Be This Guy
Maybe. He could also have low testosterone which makes some old men very grumpy. Regardless what he has he doesn't have a free pass to throw gasoline on people who are legally fishing a dock.

Folks, Don't Be This Guy
Pouring gasoline on somebody while they are legally fishing is unforgivable at any age! This man needs to go to jail for a very long time since he could of killed these fishermen.

Suwannee Bass
Good report thank you for posting it. Suwannee bass fight harder for their size than a regular bass and they are one my favorite freshwater fish to catch.

How much would you spend on a rod and/or reel?
I will spend more money on gear for big game fishing in the ocean and nowhere near as much for bass, which almost any rod and reel can handle.

Help me ID this fish?
Its a blue gourami or a type of gourami for sure. Not all blue gourami look the same just like not all bass have the exact color pattern. Might be a fish that someone released into the river and maybe there's a small population of these fish in your area. Might be a good idea to tell your State DNR about this catch. South Florida has a very healthy population of exotic fish from Asia (bullseye snakehead, clown knifefish, etc) and South Florida is +10,000 miles away from most of Asia.

Invasive species
Yes I eat the lionfish that I catch while doing freedive spearfishing. They are one of my favorite fish to eat and taste better than grouper to give you a idea how delicious these fish are. You can eat lionfish fillets in some restaurants and even buy the fillets in some locations if you want. Definitely a fish worth eating if you never had it before. Here's 2 articles you can read more about lionfish being sold for food and how good they taste; http://money.cnn.com/2016/05/27/news/companies/whole-foods-lionfish-invasive-species/index.html https://lionfish.co/what-does-lionfish-taste-like/

Invasive species
I am more of a multi species fisherman than a bass fisherman so I tend to fish for exotic fish often, which is easy to do in South Florida since we have so many species of exotic fish. Some of my favorite freshwater exotic fish to catch in South Florida are the following; peacock bass, jaguar guapote, clown knifefish, bullseye snakehead, midas cichlids, and grass carps. My favorite exotic saltwater fish that I catch in South Florida is the lionfish, which is very fun to spear and is very delicious!

How Long Should a Reel Last?
I have Penn Senators that are +30 years old and still work great. These are not bass reels but still prove that quality reels can last very long if taken care of.
-
Older Shimanos
Shimano makes great spinning reels that is for sure and that's why I don't mind spending more money on these reels. My first Shimano Spirex lasted over 20 years and I used it for both freshwater and saltwater fishing ( bass, snook, tarpon, jacks, groupers, snappers, mackerels, kingfish, bonitos, mahi mahi, and many other species of fish). I still have this +20 year old Spirex for memories since it was the reel I caught my current PB bass and other very nice fish on. I also have a Shimano Stradic that is +10 years old and still works good, even after catching lots of big bass, big snook, and even a shark that was +7 feet long.

Why do you fish for bass?
Some of the reasons I fish for bass are the following; 1. They exist in large numbers where I live in South Florida. 2. Big bass remind me of groupers, which is one of my favorite fish to catch. 3. I like catching fish on topwaters and bass like topwaters. 4. I want to break all my bass fishing PB's ( biggest bass, most bass in 1 day, top 5 bass, etc) since it is challenging and I enjoy challenges. 5. All I need is 60 minutes or less to catch a bass where I live, so I can go on a quick fishing trip and expect to catch a bass.
