  1. A truly successful bass fisherman has reached a point that he is happy with all the bass he has caught and now only fishes for fun. He does not care much for tournament fishing, or what others catch, he just enjoys catching bass regardless how big or how many he catches.
  2. Stadium Arcadium is one of my favorite albums from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
  3. Go fishing whenever you get the chance since there are always some fish that will bite regardless of the conditions.
  4. You can fish the South Point Pier and anywhere on the inlet that allows fishing. I recommend you contact FWC since they can help you find places you can legally fish in South Beach. The rod and reel you mentioned should be enough for most of the fish you will probably catch, make sure to use the appropriate leaders depending on what species of fish you will be fishing for.
  5. The pier in South Beach is a good place to catch different species of fish so it is worth a try if you enjoy multi species fishing. The whole inlet has good fishing for tarpon, snook, jacks, and other species of fish. Make sure to bring the appropriate tackle if your goal is to catch these fish since they are hard fighters.
  6. You consider 50 degrees warm? That is not warm weather, warm is 75 degrees and above. How many months a year is it 75 degrees and above where you live? If it is less than 6 months then it means half the year is not warm weather. I have lived through a direct hit from Hurricane Andrew and many other hurricanes, it is much better than having the lights go off for days in freezing weather caused by a nasty blizzard. The Northerners that moved down here in Florida seem to agree with me. Come to South Florida in August and fish a whole day in the direct sun and you will know what extreme heat and humidity feels like. I have done it for years, it is not easy but it is worth it since certain species of fish bite very well during this time. You have to make sure to drink lots of water, eat well, and take breaks when needed. 65 Knot winds is 74.8 miles per hour, that is practically hurricane strength winds plus bitter cold weather! On top of that all that snow that needs to be removed from the driveway every day, that is not the type of weather I would enjoy. Yes snow can be pretty but not something I want to see for more than a couple of days.
  7. They are one of my favorite animals and they are much more intelligent than most people think. I often have iguanas come up to me when I am fishing, it seems they like to watch people fish. Green iguanas are vegetarians so they only eat plants and will leave you alone if you leave them alone. Most of the time they will jump into the canal if you get too close to them. You have to be very fast to catch an iguana with you bare hands, any other method is too easy.
  8. It is currently 49 degrees where I live in South Florida and there is a chance the temperature might drop in the 30's which is extremely rare in the area I live in. I do not blame Northerners for visiting Florida so much and wanting to live here, I would do the same. I much rather live in a tropical paradise that gets occasional cold weather than live somewhere that is cold for more than half a year. We have to deal with the occasional hurricane but that is nothing compared to dealing with blizzards that happen often in many Northern States. Iguanas are tough animals, many enter a state of hibernation when the temperature gets too cold, this state is temporary and they wake up from it once they warm up. That is why it is best not to pick up a iguana that you find on the floor on a cold day since it will wake up and scratch you good if you have no idea how to handle them. Iguana's claws are sharp and strong like a bird of prey, they have lots of sharp teeth, with a powerful tail that can whip hard and accurate. Iguanas rule the banks of the canals in South Florida, even though so many people hunt them these people barely do anything to the iguanas population. They are perfectly adapted to the South Florida weather, reproduce quickly, and thrive on eating plants. They are here to stay just like many other exotic animals, might as well enjoy watching them when you fish.
  9. Welcome to the forum
  10. Make sure to bring a couple saltwater topwaters, spoons, and jigs to fish in the ocean.
  11. Hope they catch the scumbags that broke into those cars.
  12. Iguanas are tough animals they will survive this cold front like they do every year. Even people hunting them has not done much, iguanas keep thriving and will continue to thrive on the banks of the canals of South Florida. Iguanas are here to stay might as well enjoy watching them when you fish.
  13. This year is the coldest I have seen in South Florida in over 5 years. There is a chance the temperature might drop in the mid 30's this weekend which is extremely rare. I can only imagine how cold it must be up north for South Florida to have temperatures in the 30's. I remember 2010 was one the coldest years in South Florida and many other parts of the country. During this time I remember seeing ice on my car in the morning, that is something you rarely see in South Florida.
  14. The heated shacks definitely make ice fishing more enjoyable from what I see in videos. The ice fishing experience alone would be worth it to me regardless what I catch. I would be happy fishing either ice shack but would probably prefer the one in the bottom that is heated. That is a big ice fishing shack. He must have a good time ice fishing in it.
  15. I believe you since I see lots of ice fishing videos. Some people go all out and have big ice shacks that look like small houses with TV's and other accessories. Ice fishing is something I have wanted to do for a long time and would like to try it in a future vacation. How thick is the ice now where you live? I recently saw a video of a man ice fishing and he said the ice was 24 inches thick. You will need a strong ice auger to drill a hole in ice that thick that is for sure!
  16. That is much colder weather than I have seen so far in my Life. In one of my Northern fishing vacations I was fishing while it was snowing in low 30 degree weather. I had to dress in layers to keep warm but it was worth it since it was the first time I fished while it was snowing. Caught some nice smallmouth bass that day. I mentioned earlier that there are Northerners thriving in sub freezing weather catching nice fish while ice fishing, to me that is impressive. You really have to love fishing to fish in these conditions and from what I see many catch very nice fish while ice fishing.
  17. I am a multi species fisherman that enjoys catching fish so I will be happy catching anything that bites whether it is a big shark or tiny little fish.
  18. So far this Winter has been colder than usual compared to the Winters we had 3 years ago. Last night the temperatures where in the low 50's and it seems the nights will be below 70 degrees for a week. The daytime temperatures are nice for Outdoor activities. With that said I find it impressive that many Northerners are thriving in sub freezing temperatures and catching nice fish while ice fishing at this time.
  19. Welcome to the forum
  20. Suwannee bass are one of the most beautiful and rare black bass species. They also live in beautiful places so you should have a great time fishing for Suwannee bass. Suwannee bass do not grow big but they make up for it with being strong for their size and beauty. I have caught smallmouth bass, they are fun to catch but I much rather catch more Suwannee bass, they fight harder than a equal sized smallmouth bass.
  21. The advice @bigbassin' and @N Florida Mike gave you is very good and you should do well listening to them. I agree Suwannee bass are much stronger than an equal sized largemouth bass. They are one of my favorite black bass species to catch.
  22. I agree with everyone that is recommending the Shimano Stradic FL, it is a great reel.
  23. Happy New Years to everyone in this forum.
