What, to you, is a “nice” bass?
I consider a 18 inch or bigger largemouth bass a quality sized bass and any bass over 24 inches is a lunker bass.

What's the Deal With Carp?
Carp and other fish are spawning in northern waters at this time of year.

People who have fished the north and the south, how does your tackle/strategy change?
Spinnerbaits are a lure I have done well with both in South Florida and in northern waters. Another good lure that works well in both southern and northern waters is the jerkbait.

Coolest thing you've ever witnessed while fishing?
I have seen eagles catch fish from a river, ospreys catch fish from the sea, seen dolphins (mahi mahi) and other deep sea fish attack a school of bait, and other awesome experiences while fishing and diving.

I'm beginning to think that lure color doesn't matter.
Most lure colors do a great job at catching fishermen. What matters more is how you fish the lure.

1000 vs 2000 size spinning reel
I have spinning reels from size 1000 to 10500 and use size 1000-4000 for bass fishing. Size 1000 reels are fun for light tackle fishing but cast less far compared to a size 4000. You can put a higher pound test line on a size 4000 reel and have more line capacity compared to a size 1000 reel. You can also fish more techniques on a size 4000 reel versus a size 1000. When it comes to fighting a bass 8 pounds or bigger a size 4000 reel would be better than a size 1000 reel. If you are targeting mostly small bass in the 1-3 pound range then a size 1000 reel should be good enough. With that said I have caught fish over 25 pounds on a size 1000 reel so you should be able to catch nice fish on a size 1000 reel if you know how to fish light tackle well.

Would This Be Considered a Trophy Walleye?
Nice walleye! I would consider that a trophy sized walleye.

Any guesses on the weight of this largemouth bass?
The pond could have some bass in the 6-8 pound range or bigger if the pond has a healthly population of small fish for the bass to eat.

Any guesses on the weight of this largemouth bass?
The bass you are holding appears to be around 3.5-4 pounds. Next time bring a scale or measure the length and girth of the bass to get a weight estimate.

Casting or spinning gear for plastics rod?
Choose the type of reel you like best. I prefer using spinning reels for most of the bass fishing I do and have caught lots of nice bass this way.

Best inshore reel 2020?
For inshore fishing I use Penn and Shimano reels. Have a couple Penn reels that are over 30 years old and they work great.

Giant Bass II
Things where different in 1932. There where no cell phones to take pictures at that time in history and I doubt George Perry had a camera at that time. His bass was weighed on a postal scale which has to be certified to be used in the post office. Considering the circumstances and rules in 1932 his catch is 100% legitimate and Mr.Perry's 22 pound, 4 ounce bass is still the current official world record largemouth bass.

Giant Bass II
According to IGFA rules a largemouth bass has to weigh at least 22 pounds, 6 ounces to beat the current world record largemouth bass caught in 1932. Mr. Kurita is a very talented bass fisherman and caught one of the biggest largemouth bass, but his catch weighed less than 22 pounds, 6 ounces. He currently has a co-record, would be nice to see someone catch a new official world record largemouth bass. He was honest about his catch which is honorable. Lots of California bass fishermen where known for using live trout or snagging bass and told everyone they used swimbaits (or another lure) to catch these fish. I have seen schools of bass where each bass was over 6 pounds, with some over 8 pounds. A friend of mines caught a +14 pounder and he told me that bass was in a school with a bass bigger than the one he caught. I believe Mr.Kurita has seen bass bigger than the current world record bass in those schools of bass.

Giant Bass II
Would be nice to see someone catch a new world record largemouth bass, preferably by a young person who only fishes for fun, not someone chasing the record to get money out of the experience.

Multi-species
The best state in the nation for multi species fishing is Florida. There are hundreds of species of freshwater and saltwater fish you can catch, including big game saltwater species that often weigh hundreds of pounds. It is common for a good Florida multi species fisherman to have caught over 100 species of fish in his/her lifetime while most landlocked state fishermen have a hard time passing 50 species of fish caught in a lifetime.

I like this and wish I saw more of it
I agree that finding your own fish is much more rewarding.
