  1. That's interesting, good to know!
  2. Need to buy a topwater rod. I want a MH power for walking treble baits and although fast action rods are the norm for topwater rods wouldn't a MF action fit the bill better? It would allow the fish to swallow the bait better, plus if I acted too fast in setting the hook out of excitement this would give it somewhat of a delay from pulling the lure out of his mouth correct?
  3. I really need to make a decision here of what to use on my cranks the split rings that come on em snaps or like some guys both, they just connect the snap to the split ring. Think I can count the last one out maybe it gives it more action but I don't have time to try every crank I have to see if it works better with one both or either. I guess I want to use snaps for quick lure change, and no worries of line breaking cuz of it rubbing back and forth from the single to double wire on the ring. This has been asked before but not enough answers for a good decision, just answer snap, split ring or both if u want I would really appreciate it guys, thanks!
  4. First is tackle bag sz, what's appropriate and what's not? I have only fished one tourney with our club and everyone we switch to a different boater. My first one I took my BPS extreme qualifier 360 and it didn't carry as much as I wanted. I have a BPS xps stalker front loader and would rather take that but don't know if it's too much and would make someone mad it's 20×15×12 it would just be that my rods and rain gear in a little sack. Next rods how many is normal to take? I would be happy with 6 I guess.
  5. Looks like Megastrike is leading the pack, will throw em in the cart. Thanks guys
  6. I'm fishin a pond tomorrow in NE Texas not sure what the water temps are gonna be, maybe 60° My friend who thinks he knows it all and doesn't thinks that the fish are gonna be shut down and not bite cuz of the temps. It's not Jan of Feb yet, the pond has some 20+ ft. spots in it for the fish. So how different will the fish in the pond be from the lake fish right now? Should I fish the same lures and techniques for the ponds that I would if I was on the lake? Will the ponds become un catchable at some point cuz of the temps? And this is coming from the guy who owns the pond but I just don't think he fishes for them with the right techniques when it's cold, also any suggestions on what to fish would be appreciated and it holds some big fish some 20+ deep water and maybe 10 acres big, thanks guys.
  7. I'm all about high end rods, are u saying the Batson blanks are better than the Rainshadow blanks? And can I only get the Batson if I have someone build it? Thanks
  8. Wow thanks for all the advice guys, man it looks like I'm gonna be spending some money on shaky heads to figure out which ones I like now.
  9. Thanks for all the info so far guys, this forum is awesome.
  10. Awesome thanks so much for the info man, I learn everyday and will be googling jika rig when done here lol, thanks again.
  11. Good point, but neither one of those I have access too. I was really just wanting to start with a good jig that had a good hook up ratio and one that stayed upright well. But will definitely work on which plastics to use once I find the right jig, thanks man, great point.
  12. Moved to Tx recently and got the bug bad lol, joined a club as a co angler so u will be seeing lots of questions like this from me as I need lots of new tackle and want the good stuff lol. On TW the preferred shaky head is the one from Yum, what's yours? Thanks guys.
  13. Suprised at the amount of Croix's I have 2 and they are nothing special but they are just the Avids maybe I need to try one of their high end models. For me Loomis,MB,EverGreen,Phoenix and I want to try Major Craft and something on a Rainshadow blank, which I guess will have to be custom. Someone mentioned Tigerodz, is that just a custom builder?
  14. I have wanted to try this as my main line, right now I'm using the sniper and reaction line and love em. I have read that the shooter is stiffer, I know Aaron uses it a good bit, that and the sniper. I also really really like the tatsu.
  15. Ok I'm definitely gonna get a MH and H power rod for topwater spooks and such, and was gonna go 6'10" to clear the water with the tip down to walk the dog. I'm leaning towards Moderate or Moderate Fast action over a Fast action rod. So that's my question who fishes Moderate, Moderate Fast or Fast action and what length to clear the water with tip down, I'm 6' by the way.
  16. I thought M power seemed a little light esp. for the lakes I'm fishing but I was going by there lure weight and the M was rated up to 5/8oz. and the MH up to 1oz. But your right and I should consider where I'm fishing and sz. of fish over lure weight. (As long as it still in the specs of the rod)
  17. Fairly new to Tx and fished all my life but came from PA and now I got the bass bug bad. Need to buy a whole arsenal as I will be fishing in a club on lake fork. I need a topwater rod for bigger baits so gonna go with a 6'10" MH but should I go fast action or will that be too stiff? Would I be better with a Moderate or Moderate Fast action? I'm buying Loomis NRX and GLX rods, for square bills I was gonna do the GLX crankbait rod M power 7' moderate action?
  18. What are u using for topwater walk the dog baits? If braid are u using a flouro leader? Spinnerbaits? And squarebills?
  19. I know I seen this once before, it was an awesome list of all the techniques and what type of line the poster used for each. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong in my search but I really want to get an idea of what everyone is using.
  20. I'm joining a club this Thursday in Tx and it's my first everything also, co-angler, tournament ect. Definitely a little nervous but so glad I read this first. Some are definite givens like at least $30 bucks for gas (not sure how much u typically burn maybe more?) not stepping on seats, change into clean shoes, ask about netting and what else u can help with. Didn't really think of the whole centerline thing, I understand not crossing his line or throwing on top of him. Also understand not throwing straight off the back of the boat while traveling in opposite direction but if I'm not doing that don't expect me to just break off $15-$20 dollar cranks. Guess I will talk to the boater before fishing in regards to how snags will be handled and go from there. As far as tackle what's the norm? Like one medium sized bag that's about 16"×9"×10"? And my biggest question, rods, how many is norm and how many is too much. I'm a gear/tackle and will want to take as many as I can. Sorry this got so long and thanks in advance for the advise.
  21. I'm about to buy a whole new arsenal, most rods being Loomis NRX and GLX. But not needing a super sensitive rod for frog fishin and just wanting to try a cpl other brands I was thinking about tryin the new Zillion frog rod. Off my head I think it's 7'4" HF anyone have it? If so likes dislikes? Also first frog rod will 7'4" hit the water from a boat, I'm 6'. Think I read somewhere that the Zillion rods are tip heavy? I know there sexy as hell and if it fishes like it looks I might pu one of the CB rods also, thanks guys.
  22. Were u talking about a topwater rod or the frog tod? I lived in PA for 42yrs and now Tx for 3. Lived in eastern then western PA, did a lot of trout and fly fishing and started fishing lake Erie for smallies after moving to western pa. The fish down here r giant, I can't believe how strong these fish r, even the 4lbrs. Hell the 4lb fish fight harder than my PB of 7lbs lol.
  23. That's the Livre handle correct? I've never seen it in that color only the gunmetal and gold blue or red which I hate. That looks like all gunmetal, anyone know where I can find one in this color?
  24. I'm buying a boat this coming yr, and I'm 6' can I fish a 7' rod for frogs or will I hit the water with the tip? And should I go with H or XH and F or XF, rod will be a loomis glx. And the other rod I need is a topwater rod I guess for spooks and bigger prop baits again 7' if it wouldn't be too long, I'm thinking MH or H and F or XF tip? Same rod loomis glx. And what line are you guys using for topwater not frogs? Don't care what weight cuz that depends on where u fish, I mean mono or braid, or braid mono leader. Oh and I'm in tx home lake is fork and fishing pond right now and it's 3.5 and up all day with a 6 to 8 thrown in there so maybe XH frog and H topwater and XF tip for frog but which tip for topwater? And what are you guys throwing you light topwaters/poppers on? Thanks
