  1. Never fished one but would like to try em out. How do they come through weeds? Are they a deep open water only lure. And what about stumps and trees? Thanks
  2. Always fish a weedless swimbaits. Lake has a lot of stuff in it. Only type of open water shallow swimbait fishing is prespawn shell bed bite. So 4th of July sale bought some 4" Top Shelf line throughs, treble hook under belly one point in bait. Will these come through anything or will they only work in completely open water? If so at 12 bucks a pc maybe I will exchange for something else, thanks.
  3. Alright last ? What would u suggest for the hyacinth? Punch rig or jig?
  4. No u said u use TX rigged jigs but the pic just looks like regular punch setups?
  5. So u use fluoro? I will be punching heavy stuff so I need braid. Floating hyacinth and heavy coontail. I've heard and thought about the jig instead of a punch skirt. Guess I could use a jig in the coontail but I think a EWG punch rig would come through the coontail better? And forget the jig for punching floating hyacinth right? Catt, aren't u from TX, do u punch floating hyacinth or pads? Skirts most of time but not punching, then what for I'm confused lol. So this is one of those punching weights a punch skirt then u just tie an EWG hook on and whatever bait u wanna use? Brilliant!!
  6. Basically a new technique for me. What's your limit w weight size w tungsten before having hook up problems w the weight blowing the fishes mouth open? Anyone have high hook up ratios w 2oz or above? Do u use a punch skirt? What brands best Lifted, Dirty Jigs? And last, I have all kinds of punching hooks but it would seem to me and some do use EWG hooks as when pulling through thick cover w a punching hook it pushes through the bait often where as the EWG is more weedless. I don't think u get that pivoting hook action from the weight and a snell knot w an EWG though like a punching hook which may be a big deal. Thanks
  7. What's it called and where can I get some? Thanks What's the bait called and where can I get some.
  8. Just bought one what retrieves fo u use with this bait? And I bought the smaller jr one, the hooks seem a little small. Seem to be a short shank 6, was thinking about going up to a short shank 4? Any thoughts or suggestions would b appreciated. Thanks
  9. So how do u make yours, do u happen to have a video?
  10. So your sweeping the rod to the left or right vs an over the shoulder set like w a t-rig?
  11. Yea I forgot a lot of people fish it like that since the biffle bug is fished like that. I just drag mine like a jig, figured why not use it vs a shaky head when I can get more movement out of it esp when fishing creature baits on it. Maybe I just answered my own question colder water or when the fish r shut off the shaky head with less movement may be better.
  12. Shaky heads use to b finesse but know u can buy them in all weights. And people use all kinds of plastics on them from worms to creatures and craws af all depths. So when and why would u use a wobble head over a shaky or vice versa? Thanks
  13. Anyone having trouble w these frogs? I've had them cpl months haven't fished them a lot but when I have every blowup has been a miss. Not sure if the fish are just missing it? I did have one take it under i set and nothing. I have no problems w my other frogs, matter of fact my hookup ratio is really high. Been fishing a frog for a long time so not sure why I'm having problems w this one. Any suggestions or advise?
  14. Has anyone bought and fished one? The hook is so small on this thing. When u compress it there is literally just from the point to the barb exposed, not room left after that the body of the frog is in the way of the bend in the hook. Smallest replacement hook I found on TW was a Trokar 2/0, have no idea if that's too big or not?
  15. I agree to your post. Road in a 2017 Bullet today, not for me but 78mph is my new PB in a boat lmao.
  16. Yea I'm pretty advanced and know of the bow string technique and I had but have run out of the knockers. They work good on single hook stuff but this was only coming off w one of the dog retrievers. We moved boat around to different angles no success. And I have wrapped my line around things to pull like mentioned but overlooked it this time just wasn't thinking. So I need to get a dog retriever guess there not too big to add just wont be able to put it in one of those retractable dog leashes. I use tatsu and sunline fc and a steady pull the *** strong as hell I've broke hooks b4 line. So last question that no one commented on, I always read once you stretch fluoro like that its shot. True or false?
  17. Ok, so first off if I'm fishing 15lb fluoro its dam strong and you have to pull it really hard to break off or pull loose. Well that ruins the fluoro stretching it like that correct? So what happened and my example is this, I'm crankbait fishing w an 8ft rod and SK 8XD so making bomb cast on this point. I get snagged so do I pull and hope it breaks off and I lose the lure or is that wrecking the line cuz I'm pulling on it so hard to break it loose that I bent a cpl guides on a 350 dollar rod and yes the rod is pointed straight at the bait. Or do u just cut it loose and loose so much line that it puts that rod out of commission for the rest of the day not to mention leaving all that line in the lake. And I'm a co angler so it's not like I can have multiple rods of the same type when I already have 7 in the boat. So there u have it, so what do u guys do?
  18. I'm leaning towards the Ranger and really like em. My buddy has one and customer support is excellent. I live in east TX close to Fork and every other great lake lol. Dealers of all brands are close and many sell several brands so not a problem. Thought about a Phoenix until I was on one. Deck was too narrow and boat just rocked too. But there are a lot of Skeeters and Skeeter fan boys on Fork talking about how their boats have the best hulls and best rides.
  19. Dont want to start a mines better than yours. But when your about to drop 70k some advise would be nice lol. Right now I'm a co angler and have fished in everything. I do like the Legends also. But to be honest I cant tell a big difference and I'm on the water 2 to 4 times a wk. I'm starting to think that when buying any high end boat it comes down to personal preference. Mostly how you like the layout and aesthetics? Anyone agree, disagree care to comment? Thanks
  20. I'm gonna pick up another spinning rod I guess. The NRX 822S was an x-fast but I want something in maybe a 3 power and stiffer tip.
  21. We mostly cast and drag our dropshot rigs. There has been a lot of big fish caught on Fork this yr. 15 and 13s and so on. Me and my buddy put a 10.02lb in the boat a month ago. Fork is loaded w cover, loaded, esp stumps standing timber ect. Big fish in open water not I understand. And yes 8 and 10lb isn't finesse fishing but you don't stand a chance with a DD in timber on anything lighter and most likely not on 8 or 10, and if he wraps ya goodbye fish. Lol I can feel a fish fart on my 852C w braid. And when I lived in PA we would catch 8 to 10lb steelies all day on 4lb line.
  22. I'm not talking bubba shotting just regular finesse stuff. I fish lake fork Texas 2 to 3 times a wk. And every cast could be the one. I fish a Loomis NRX 852C w a Shimano Aldebaran. Usually rigged w 12lb braid to 8 or 10lb fluoro and a 1/4oz weight unless in 20ft w high winds then 3/8. Matt Allen fishes the same rig in CA for his dropshot. I had a Loomis NRX 822S and 823S and did not like em. They were too soft and after switching I rarely lose a fish. Can anyone tell me why I should be using a spinning rod, and the advantages if there are any? Thanks
  23. TxHawgs replied to TxHawgs's topic in Fishing Tackle
Yes they r eating Threadfin and I want to throw the Crig with a baitfish imitation just want some new ideas rather than the old stand by Fluke.
  24. TxHawgs posted a topic in Fishing Tackle
Need bait ideas for a C-rig when targeting Threadfin, besides a Fluke. Thanks
  25. Place I bought mine had the 3 packs none of the pre rigged 2 packs. What sz Double Take hooks should I have bought? Bought the 5/0 1/8oz and the hook is so close you cant screw in the lock very good and when putting it in water w the 1/8oz it doesnt seem to want to float. Should I have bought the weightless hooks and can u cast this thing w those hooks? Thanks
