Fall Fishing Tips After A Cold Front
with 3 on top no less... That sounds like a good day for those conditions. Typically after a cold front like that the fish pretty much shut down. The small bucks may still be cruising and chasing bait, but the larger fish will be hunkered down somewhere with more stable temps. In the south, that is heavy matted vegetation, up north after the weed-lines have died off it's Deep structure with rocks and wood if available.

Flouro
I typically run all my bait casters until I've chopped them down to where I'm about to start casting my backing line. Liberal use of a line conditioner helps keep it alive. I buy line in bulk and I soak my new spools with conditioner before I ever put them on a reel. Then use more as I'm applying line to the reel. My line tends to last at least 2-3 years. I also store my bulk spools of line in a cabinet so the sun can't hit them. With the price of FLuro I can't afford to throw it away when it's still got use left in it. http://www.***.com/Kevin_VanDams_Line__Lure_Conditioner/descpage-VDLL.html

How Many Pitches/flips Do You Do In An Hour
You're dead on. It is a numbers game. If you don't get a hit on the fall, yo yo your bait a few times, maybe play with it at the weed surface. Then pitch to a new spot. The more presentations you make the better. That is one very good use of super high speed reels 8:1 or higher. They allow for more rapid pitching/flipping thereby gaining an angler a few extra presentations a day. They also help to sled fish across the top of the water when pulling them out of the thick stuff. Flipping/pitching is not a beginner level skill. It takes a great deal of confidence in the bait you are using and patience. You can expect to get very few bites in a day, but the ones you do get should be on average larger than you will see with other presentations.

I'm liking them pretty well so far. Haven't found anything they won't cast well yet. I kind of wish the break adjustment was external rather than having to open up the side panel, but the minimalist design of the panel looks pretty slick, and as rarely as I need to make adjustments hiding the mechanism works just fine.

Anyone Trade Up Boats Every Few Years?
Thank you effective marketing, Those damned Jones's, and the scare tactics used by dealership service centers. Imagine, you take your car in for its 100k mile service.... Service Manager: Your warranty just run out? Oh that's too bad, you're going to need xyz repairs or this things going to kill your family. You may want to talk to Salesman Illtake Yourmoney over there about getting this thing traded in... Salesman: Yeah we can take this as a trade, but as our service manager already told you it's going to need some work. So for us to make anything off of it we can only offer you a fraction of what it's actually worth. We can get you in this brand new, top of the line, ultra safe, Luxury (AKA cheaply manufactured foreign POS), for only two arms a leg and your left one. Yeah I know your really attached to your left one, but that's what it's going to take to ensure your family's safety. Wife: We should do this! I mean if we don't the old car is going to kill us! You to Salesman: Shut up and take my Money. Just make it quick. (10 hours and 187 signatures later on the way home) Wife: Wow, I'm so glad we traded in our 5 year old car for next to nothing, and borrowed all this money to have a new one! I feel so safe! And Mrs. Jones doesn't have anything this new... (Pride gone, frustrated beyond belief, and generally in a fowl mood) You (in a sorrowful voice as the separation anxiety really takes hold): Yep (From the dark dank desk draw of Salesman) Left One: (shedding a single tear of sorrow) I'll miss you too buddy! we had some good times you and I...

Fishing 20'/25'/ 30' Deep With Crankbaits.
The No Trolling rule refers specifically to the main motor. Trolling motor can be used as much as you like. And that rule only applies to Tournaments anyhow. If you just want to show your kids a good time; trolling some deep divers with the big motor can be a great way to do that. Cast em out behind the boat. Secure the rods in a sturdy rod holder and idle around potential hot spots. Sit back and talk with the youngsters on a deeper level than than you can when they are at home zoned out in their private little world. Watch as the glint and glee light up in their eyes as the drag starts to scream! That's when you know your kids are hooked on fishing. We used to catch Bass, Amber Jack, and Snook this way all the time on the Caloosahatchee in 20 plus foot of water when I was a kid. That made for some of my fondest memories. The technique of long lining, as I've seen it done is making a long cast, and moving away from the bait while feeding it line. Then using the reel to retrieve and impart action with the rod as you see fit. This technique requires that you know where the structure and cover you want to fish are. You also need to ensure your bait comes across them at depth. Long lining may help you get a 25' bait down to 30 - 35. But it isn't going to get your 5'-12' bank beater down there. Long Lining also isn't as enjoyable for the kids, and requires a greater level of concentration and skill. Cranking with a Swivel and weight works well too, but your arms will be worn out after a day of that!

Finally.........i Finally Caught Fish With A Super Fluke
Yes, and i have caught some very nice fish on them. Watermelon seed and watermelon red work well in south FL. They have a very similar action to the Super Flukes, and are easily cast long distances. I typically rig them with a small 1/8 or 1/16 bullet weight pegged to the nose to keep them from snagging in the weeds and sliding down the hook. A touch of Krazy Glue on the shank of the hook works well too.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Hi, my name is Paul. And I'm a fishaholic. Well my boats been in the shop awhile going through a repower so while i am down ive been cleaning up thw tackel room and making some upgrades. It started with 4 Okuma Helios TCS reels in various ratios. I paired those with 4 No. 8 Blackouts purpose chosen for cranking, flipping, spinners, and soft plastics. I then realised I had a couple of deep cranking rods with no reels so I picked up a couple of Abu Orra winches. Then I saw a deal on the flea market for some Okuma citrix reels and couldn't pass it up. There is also a sale happening for model year 2015 Castaway Skeleton Rods, so I picked up a trio of them to match the new citrix reels. All told its been an expensive couple of months for hardwarwe. Not to mention the TWH terminal tackel and bait orders. On the bright side I should be in good shape for fishing the fall/winter here in Fl. Step 1 admit you have a problem... NAh- I'm still in denial.

That's the way to do it!

Small Boat Registration...what A Scam...
typically you can work with the tax collector to get it registered. As long as it was a gift, there should be no tax to pay on it. The Tax collectors offices I have dealt with have all been very accommodating in the process. Do yourself a favor and go to a rural town to take care of the registration. The folks in the rural areas always seem to be more pleasant and easy going about things.

Bass Pro Shops Vs. Walmart
I've been dissatisfied with BPS for years. However, they just opened a new one near me, and they completely redeemed themselves. Even though I am in a coastal area their Bass fishing sections were just as large as their salt. and they had a large assortment of non-BPS gear which is something I have found lacking in the Ft Lauderdale, Miami, and Ft Myers stores. Another thing I have to give BPS the nod for is their Fly Fishing sections. It's tough to find decent selections of flys/materials anywhere else unless you happen to have a local fly shop nearby.

Battery Charger Question?
a three bank charger is the way to go. It's also worth the effort to climate control your batteries during the winter months. If you park your boat outdoors bring the batteries in during the freeze.

A Couple Issues I've Been Having
The line digging in is a common issue with braid. It usually occurs after a hook set or when trying to free a snag. If you don't pull it out your next cast will fall victim of this plight. Some of the better braids have coatings to help prevent this issue, but it still happens occasionally. As far as the hook keeper goes try to adjust your technique to prevent the line from hitting it. Cutting the keeper may leave a sharp spot on your rod that you will regret one day. It you cannot avoid the keeper after adjusting your technique wrap a piece of electrical tape over the open end. This will allow you to still place a hook in it, but prevent your line from snagging.

Best Wood For Making Lures?
Depends on the lure you are trying to make and the action you want it to have. Cedar is much more dense than balsa. This makes it stronger, but also heavier. It will not float as high, making it a poor choice for top water popper type baits. Cedar can be great for walking baits though. or cranks with a tighter wobble. Due to it's lightness Balsa will float high, and makes great poppers. It will also wobble wider and deflect more rapidly when making crankbaits. Balsa cranks will have a marginally shallower depth than an identical cedar crank due to buoyancy.

Braid Users: Direct Tie Or Use Fluro Leader
For those of your losing fish due to weak connecting knots: Take the time to learn the FG knot. Once you get good with it, you can tie it in under a minute and it is the strongest connecting knot I have ever used. It also slides through even the smallest of micro guides without any issues.

Rod Experts Every Rod Is Different
Mike, that's all well and good until you go to order something online you have not had your hands on before. When facing that situation it pays to know the terminology and order what you need/want the first time!

Trailer Lights Problem
Also make sure to seal any splices you make with heatshrink. Especially on a trailer. Corrosion caused by putting the trailer in the water will quickly ruin any unprotected splices. I will typically use a combination of Heat shrink and liquid electrical tape to ensure a good seal when working with my boat/trailer wiring. The liquid electrical tape is doubly important when splicing multiple wires from a single source as heat shrink will leave a gap where the two wires meet one.
