  1. Live in North Texas. Most of my fishing will be bass fishing in Lake Granbury from a kayak. I will hit up some tanks too as my wife works at spa that has an 11 acre tank behind it.
  2. [quote name="Jrob78" post="1870941" Also, what makes a spinning rod "tactical." lol
  3. I wouldn't say that. He helps a lot of people on this site. He said the same thing about using light wire hooks. He just said there were better rods to use to throw the keitechs.
  4. I just picked up a TFO Gary Loomis Tactical Spinning Rod 7'3" Medium Fast for a price that I could not turn down. I was thinking I would throw the small Keitech swimbaits with it, but was told I might loose a lot of fish on the hookset and have issues with line breaking since you use lighter line on spinning rods and might even break the rod. With that said what would be a good use for this rod? Other rods: *** *** Black 2 Spin Rod 6'10" Med Lt xf - Dropshots and Ned rig *** *** Black 2 Spin Rod 7'1" Med f - Weightless wacky rigged senkos St Croix Triumph casting 7' MH - Texas rigged soft plastics.
  5. 6'10" ML XF *** *** black 2 spinning rod with an Abu Garcia Revo sx20 with 10 lb windtamer braid and 6 lb flouro leader
  6. This is the way i feel. I know people say rods can multitask and feel like too many people put too much into technique specific rods, but I don't want to spend my time on the water tying on new leaders and tying knots. I want a rod already rigged up with what I need and since I want the rod rigged up with one technique why not get the best rod/reel combo for the set up and have it ready to go.
  7. I think i will set it up to throw spinnerbaits. Then upgrade the rod at a later date.
  8. I know it's not the best rod but I have a 6'6" MH Berkley lightning rod. I could grab a curado and throw on it. What would that be good for? If it's a reaction bait that should work, right? It does not need super sensitivity like finesse fishing, right?
  9. You are 100% right. I dont have anything set up to cover water. i use to fish spinnerbaits a lot as a kid, but I have not in years.
  10. i am in Texas. I had the ned rig on deck this weekend during my first tournament. I was throwing a wacky rigged senko all day. I felt like if I was not throwing the senko I was missing out on fish. I plan to get more time with the ned rig next time out.
  11. Crankbaits are another one I have been wanting to learn. I just cant decide which technique to try next.
  12. I see what you are saying. just hate re-rigging while I am out. I'm trying to build my collection of rods/reels for each technique.
  13. I have been wanting to learn how to use jigs. I might have to. I am liking my *** rods. Might pick up a *** *** Black 2 Cast Rod 7'6" Med Hvy
  14. I just fished my first tournament out of a borrowed Hobie PA this last weekend. It was very nice. I was able to fish for 7 hours with no problems. Never once thought it was going to tip over. I want to try the slayer propel and the Diablo Amigo before I decide which one I am going to buy.
  15. I have a 6'10" ML spinning *** rod I am using for dropshotting/ned rigs. I have a 7'1" M spinning *** rod I am using for weightless wacky rigged senkos. i have a 7' MH casting St Croix I am using for texas rigged soft plastics (mostly Baby brush hogs) I am loving being out on the water and learning these techniques. What should I throw in my arsenal next? Its not that these are not working. I just want to be prepared and feel confident with other techniques and give me something else to throw. The keitech swing impact fat just caught my attention. Maybe some soft swimbaits?
  16. I wish somebody would have taught me soft plastics when I first started. $250 can go a long ways in soft plastics.
  17. If you are fishing off the bank, back of boats or tanks I would get a backpack to carry your tackle in. My brother got me doing that 20 years ago and I still have my backpack with my Plano boxes in it. It's great throwing the backpack on and going pond hopping. Legally now.....not so much 20 years ago, but the times have changed. Lol
  18. Z-MAN FINESSE SHROOMZ 1/15th and 1/10th I got them working though. A little stretching and a little time in the lake and they started standing up just right.
  19. Got my line wet on my lunch break. Caught one with the ned rig and then got snagged and had to break my line. It started floating up after about 10 cast or so.
  20. Sounds good. Thanks guys!!!
  21. I hope so mlbassyaker. I'm entering my first local yak tournament. My only goals are to learn the process and not get skunked.
  22. Has anybody used an *** 6'10" ML XF for the ned rig? That's what I am going to try it on. The rod actually seems a little stiff for this application. Kind of feels like a medium.
  23. Thanks for the help guys!!
  24. Unfortunately its too dark for me to see it in the lake tonight. I was just trying to get an idea of what it looked like.
