The Most Amazing Thing You've Ever Caught That Wasn't A Fish!
I was waiting for someone to pull up a gun or a body. That must have been awful. I imagine bodies don't look so great after being in the water for a few days

trout trolling setup?
I have a feeling I was going too fast. i was paddling at a speed I can keep up for hours, but looking back it was probably faster than a trolling motor

trout trolling setup?
I was thinking of going with the sliding sinker method or a three way swivel with a weight off the bottom. This way would be the cheapest, but how would I know what depth I'm at without a fish or depth finder? do I just keep playing around with the weight until I start getting bites? Lead line isn't that expensive so I will probably have also bring a rod with that on it along next time I go fishing.

Caught my first bass in 6 years (pic)
I was fishing last week on the same lake and caught a crappie similar in size, but I didn't bring my scale. I think my friends lake has giant crappies I pretty much stopped fishing all together for five years. I would go deep sea fishing about twice a year but that was it. I started trout fishing again last summer and recently started bass fishing again too. Today was pretty fun, I'm glad to be bass fishing again

Caught my first bass in 6 years (pic)
When I was younger I would fish at a pond on the ranch I live on. I stopped fishing for a while then when I went back someone either caught all the bass and didn't throw any back or they died because only blue gill were left. Now with the drought in California I think the pond just about dried up this last summer and only turtles are left. I bought a kayak this winter and decided to start fishing again. I went fishing on my friends private lake and caught my first bass on a long time! It was 2lbs 6 ounces and I caught it on a bomber shallow diving crank bait. I'm going to get a few crank baits that dive deeper because this crank bait only goes down about two feet. I also caught a 2lb crappie on the same crank bait later that day along with a minnow of a bass that was hooked on the side of the face.

trout trolling setup?
I took my kayak out yesterday to try to catch trout on a lake while I wait for the season to open up on the streams. I was planning on just using spinners around the marina but quickly discovered that the trout were much deeper than I expected. I didn't have anything for trolling but a nice guy on the bank gave me a little chrome and gold deep diver that goes to about ten or 15 feet. This was only my second time on my kayak so I don't have a fish finder yet but the local fishing report said the trout are around twenty five feet down. Does anyone troll for trout? What setups are people using? All I know about trout trolling comes from the guy I talked to yesterday and a few hours on the internet. I want to be able to get down deeper trolling at kayak paddling speed. I may put some lead core line on my salmon rod and take that out next weekend, but i was wondering if there is a way to get down deeper with a spinning setup

Mixing plastics caused a problem
A few weeks ago I wanted to organize all of my lose plastics into a tackle box. One section I mixed robo worms, zman lures and yum worms. When I went fishing yesterday I discovered that all of the worms in that compartment had either dried up or melted together forming a sticky mess of plastic. I think the robo worms are the culprit because I had zman and yum together for a few weeks prior to this without any issues. Has anyone had a similar negative reaction from putting all of their plastics together in one container?

Best spinning reel in $60-$80 range?
Pflueger is running a $20 rebate on reels that cost $99 or more. Get the supreme and with the rebate it will be $80. It has a magnesium body. I'm not sure what the advantage of magnesium is, but it's cool to say

TROUT SEASON IS APPROACHING
I'm also excited for trout season. The last weekend of april is when the rivers and streams open up here. When it gets warmer I'll start trout fishing in the lakes while I wait for the stream fishing to start. I ordered a 5'6" shimano stimula hat should be arriving tomorrow. I want to try out a fast action ultra light rod and the stimula was cheap. Pflueger has a $20 rebate on reels over $99 so I will be pairing the rod with a supreme. I like panther martins, rooster tails and trout magnets, with panther martins being my favorite. Sometimes I'll also use little pan fish tubes. I just signed up for the lucky tackle box trout box and should be receiving it next month. I used a ten dollar off coupon so it was only $5. I hope it has some new baits I haven't used before and not just a bunch of dough bait and salmon eggs.

California
Helo, I'm 22 and from the fresno area. I started bass fishing when I was 10 fishing in a pond near my house. I stopped fishing for bass when I was about 15 and just recently decided to get back into it. I checked my childhood pond this weekend and only saw a turtle. I guess it dried up during the drought and all the fish died. I bought a cheap kayak and plan on trying it out on some local lakes and the san jaquin river when it gets a little warmer. I enjoy fishing for trout the most but that might just be because I haven't tried bass fishing in about 7 years. Looking forward to contributing and meeting new people on the forum.

How To Fish Streams
make sure you have light line, either 2 or 4lb. I use 2 because i can cast it a little further but i don't notice any increase or decrease in fish caught when switching between 2 and 4lb. I mainly use spinners but I started using trout magnets and small tubes near the end of this past summer. My favorite spinners are Panther Martina though I also like rooster tails. I feel like Panther Martins spin better. Rooster tails fall slower so I use those when the water isn't as deep, when I want a slower retrieve or when I want a bigger hook but still want to fish at the same depth. My go to Panther martins are the gold blade, black body with yellow spots and the silver blade, yellow body with red spots. Silver blades are good when it's cloudy and gold when sunny but the difference is marginal. I mainly use the 1/32 size, big and small trout go for these and they fall slow enough for shallow streams. With trout fishing a bigger lure doesn't translate to bigger fish, it just means you won't catch small fish and probably won't catch big one either. I only up the size when I want to fish deeper. Trout magnets work well for bigger fish and around submerged trees. I normally use the white black or brown trout magnets with the black being my favorite. Always fish up stream, the trout are looking up stream waiting for food to come to them. Present your lure like their natural food. In a creek the fish will be in shady spots, cover and the down stream sides of rocks. On the back side and sides of rocks you will see water that is either slowly turning or not moving, this is where the trout are. Cast up stream into the current and then guide your lure into these spots. You don't have to cast all that far, just make a short accurate cast right where the fish are. This way you can avoid getting caught on rocks and submerged sticks. Don't neglects the small puddles and streams that break off the main body of water. You will be surprised by the size of fish that can hide in these shallow spots and they will normally bite the first thing that hits the water. With spinners do a slow, but still fast enough to keep the blade spinning retrieve, keeping your lure off the bottom. If you have fish chasing but not biting sometimes flicking the rod tip so the lure pitches back for a second will trigger a strike. On really slow days you can try putting a salmon egg or a small pice of worm on your lure to add some scent. When setting the hook don't do a big hook set like on a bass, instead just do a quick reel and a small flick of your wrist should be enough. If you fail to set the hook the lure will be an inch or two in front of the trout and they will normally bite at it again. A strong hook set will just rip the hook out of their jaw. The bigges tip I can give you is if the trout see you they won't bite. You can do everything else I mentioned perfectly but ignore this tip and you will only catch a handful of fish. Realizing this changed my fishing trips from five or six a day to so many I don't bother counting. If you ever have the fish chasing your lure and then suddenly they all dart away that means you were spotted, move on to another spot. Also when approaching a fishing spot make a few casts ten or 15 feet from the water standing behind a bush or tall grass, this way you will catch the fish right at the edge of the water before you walk up to the edge and spook them. When I'm fishing if I cast in a spot three or five times without a bite I'll walk up stream a bit and try another spot.
