  1. Sa co has a sale right now where face shields are $5 each shipped promo code HOLIDAYS I ordered two thread is here
  2. Perfect timing for this thread, I was just thinking about buying one
  3. either do this or get some nails and cut the head off. You can cut the nails at different lengths until you find what weight you like
  4. Is this one of those "help me convince my wife to let me go fishing" threads?
  5. There is also the golden trout in part of california
  6. what is your price range? I picked up a Fenwick river runner elite tech that in pretty excited about. Trout season opens up here next weekend, can't wait to use my new rod. It's a 6'9" fast action rod.
  7. I've been thinking of trying sent for bass to see if it makes a difference but haven't given it a shot yet. I tried scent for trout once and they wouldn't touch the lures with scent on them.
  8. Soft stick baits are made to fall slow and yum dingers fall slower than others. If you want them to fall a little faster you could use a bigger hook or get a nail, cut off the head and shove it in the tail of your bait. First I would try it out without adding weight then if you don't have the patience to wait that long stick a nail in it. Like previously mentioned, there should be slack in the line
  9. I'm sure they were eating the fry and not just guarding them. On the surface of the water I would see what looked like small bubbles popping and when I would get closer I could see it was fry jumping at the surface as a bass was chasing them from underneath. In other instances I would see bass sitting in brush or rock piles and as the school of fry would get close the bass would come out to ambush them and then go back to the rock when the fry swam away. The bass were also breaching the surface as they came at the fry from underneath.
  10. I'll give this a try if it's still the same case when I go fishing again. Would you just swim the ned rig through the fry or would you let it sink to the bottom?
  11. Most of the bass have already spawned in a lake I fish at and are now actively feeding on fry. I've been having moderate sucess using an wacky rigged worm but can't get the fish that are feeding on fry to take my bait. I have tried top waters, crank baits and spinner baits, but the bass just ignore them and keep chasing the fry. what should I use to target these post spawn fish?
  12. Spider wire is running a rebate right now on stealth braid. I think it's a $5 rebate which will bring the cost to about half of what power pro is
  13. I took mine out for the first time today and really like it. Mine is the medium fast spinning rod. My only complaint is that the hook keeper is low on the rod and I can't use it if I want to put the rod back in a rod holder. I would buy it for $85 in a heart beat
  14. You could just the zinker until it floats then cut it in half and use it on the ned rig. I was wacky rigging them today and would buy another bag.
  15. I thought part of the requirement to be a man was to always carry a pocket knife if you switch to braid op and are not using a leader remember to use a palomar knot, a clinch knot will slip with braid
  16. That weighs less than my 10 foot kayak
  17. I looked at the California fish and game website and it might be a flannelmouth sucker. It doesn't look like any of the carp listed on the website
  18. What bait or lures do people normally use for carp? I saw a few others swimming and would like to try again with actual carp bait
  19. I went to the river I live by to see if there were any bass in it and all I could find was this guy I wasnt really set up to catch any sucker fish and ended up catching it on a red shop rag. The fish was really curious so I put a small pice of a shop rag on my hook, shook it on the bottom for a second and when the fish picked it up to check it out I set the hook I dont know if it was the current but it fought like a titan and took a solid five minutes to reel in on 6lb test
  20. That's the one. This would have saved me from going swimming to retrieve the lure a few times this past season.
  21. I have ten other colors but 90% of the time I use these two. My single favorite trout lure is a rooster tail I got on clearance for a dollar. It has a propeller style blade that spins no mater how slow you retrieve it. The propeller blade must be discontinued because I never found another one. I'll cry when I lose that lure Panther martins are my favorite spinners. just feel fast enough for the blade to spin and you will catch fish. They fish deeper than rooster tails or meps so you may have to get a size smaller than you normaly fish
  22. These two colors in 1/16oz are also my go to lures.
  23. are you fishing lakes, ponds rivers or streams? I trout fish streams quite a bit and mainly use either inline spinners or trout magnets. I don't use power bait that often because it's not as exciting as artificial lures and I tend to hook the fish deeper than i would like when using bait. Pick up a few panther martins, rooster tails or meps spinners in the 1/8th and 1/16th size. I would get one with a gold blade and one with a silver blade. Trout magnets sound like a gimmick, but they do catch fish. Get either white or black trout magnets, but you need to use four or two pound line if you want to cast them a reasonable distance. I also carry a jar salmon eggs though I almost never use them.
  24. this is the best article I have found on the floor vs mono debate http://www.bigindianabass.com/big_indiana_bass/the-truth-about-fluorocarbon.html Basicaly floro has superior abrasion resistance and resistance to UV degradation. Mono has more stretch which can be good if you have a stiff rod, has stronger knots and the biggest advantage is probably the price. Floro isn't invisible under water
  25. if you want to go cheap the Daiwa spinmatic rod looks good along with either a shimano Sedona in the 1000 size or a Pflueger president in a 20 or 25. Go with a rod that is between 6 and 7 feet in length.
