I haven't switched from 15 to 10 pound braid but I get about ten feet more distance switching from 4 lb to 2 lb mono on my trout gear. You will get more distance but it's not going to be a huge jump.

Both of these rods are on sale for the same price and I will be using the rod for jigs and carolina rigs. The enigma is butt ugly, but I will get free shipping if I buy the enigma which will save me $20. Is the Aetos $20 better than the enigma? I was going to pair the rod with a Daiwa Tatula type R. Also is there another $180 rod marked down to $100 that I am missing and should consider?

Using braid as backing and holding the reel sideways on its axis when you cast will give you a little more distance.

I was surf fishing once and had a seagul fly into my line. It didn't flop around much as I untangled it. I had an owl pick up my top water recently, luckily it dropped the bait about 20 feet later without getting hooked. If you want to catch seagulls the best way is to lay flat on your back with a beach towel covering your body. Place crushed up potato chips on the towel. When you feel seagulls eating chips off of your stomach do a sit-up with your arms and legs.

Browse your local craigslist for a week or two and you will find a starting kayak with a paddle for $100.

The only hit I ever got on my whopper plopper was an owl. I had an eagle take a shot at a bass I was reeling in. I also had a seagul fly into my line while I was surf fishing and I had to untangle it. Birds are bold

Don't get a spin cast ree, they are easy to use for young children but that is the only thing they have going for them. A spinning rod and reel will last you longer than a spin cast. The gx2 is a decent cheap spinning rod. I have a Shakespeare agility spinning rod as my truck rod and like it for the price. It's a little cheaper than the gx2 and I think it has the best handle out of any $25 rod. Get a medium light or medium fast rod in the 6 to 7 foot range. use the remainder of your budget on a reel . Get either a 2500 size shimano Sedona or a size 30 or 35 pflueger president. Both of these reels will last you a few years if you performe occasional service. Cheap reels annoy me more than cheap rods so try to spend the majority of your budget on a reel.

Get some cats or go to Home Depot and get a five gallon bucket, and a quarter inch dowel. Go to the grocery store and get a soup can and a jar of peanut butter drill a hole fir the dowel to go through the middle of the bucket at the top. Next dril a hole in both ends of the soup can and place the dowel throughout soup can and in the bucket. Fill the bucket half way with water and cover the can in peanut butter. Place a board on the edge of the bucket so the mice can run up it to get in the can. They will eat the peanut butter then fall off as the can spins and die in the water. If you don't put water in the bucket they will jump out. Don't be surprised when you have 20 mice in the bucket in one night. Cats also work great too

1. You don't need to change out hooks, but I would routinely check to make sure they are sharp and sharpen them when they dull. If you run the hook point lightly over your fingernail and it doesn't leave a scratch, it needs to be sharpened. Some hooks need to be sharpened right out of the package, others after a few fish and most after snagging on a rock or log. You can get a fine grit sharpening stone that will fit in your pocket for a few dollars at a sporting goods store. I use the diamond file on my leatherman. There are plenty of videos on youtube about how to sharpen hooks, I think Glen even has one. 2. 3. This has been discussed to death and you will still see a new topic every week on the subject. All the threads end with "budget baits work, but sometimes premium baits are just better." On a tough day a senko might out fish a yum dinger, but on average to good days you probably won't notice f a difference. I would keep a bag or two of GYB senkos for those tough days, but otherwise use cheap baits to save money. 4. I like gamakatsu when I can find them on sale. Lately I've been using eagle claw lazer sharp and feel they are a great value for the price. 5. Instead of focusing on a percentage I would focus on budgeting your money. At the beginning of the month set aside some money for fishing, it would probably be $20-$50 since you don't work. You can buy whatever fishing gear you want, but when the money you set aside on the 1st is gone, you are done buying fishing gear for the month. If you want to make a big purchase such as a rod or reel you would need to save the money from multiple months. Unless you are using 1oz weights, forget about tungsten vs lead until you have more money.

They were small but they still count as fish. I started with a limb of a rubber lizard on a drop shot hook then brought out my trout rod and some mini trout magnets. The occasional crappie or bluegill added some excitement I held it close to the camera so it would look bigger How do i rotate the image?

When I was younger I would nose hook senkos and swim them along the bottom at a pond near my house. It didn't matter how big or small of a hook I was using, I would always nose hook it. i also caught a sucker fish on the rag rig. It's where you take a red rag, put it on a hook and then clip on as much split shot on as possible to get the bait to the bottom. Shake it a bit and when the sucker fish picks it up set the hook. I invented it and another member on here named it.
