Not a bad day, air temps are hovering around 40°. Bite seemed to slow just a little but they still hit it with a good thump and the fight is more like spring or fall. Landed 14 total using a variety of Z-man finesse plastics. Looks as though this weather will continue for at least another week

Kayak Trailer
Ah yes, the 2 types were only weight related, thought one was also longer. Some people weld stuff, bolt stuff etc. if you decide to go that route you can use what ever skills you have to modify/customize it to your liking. I would also suggest googling some images to get ideas. Some people have decked them with plywood and wrapped in outdoor boat type carpet or wire mesh. Either can be bolted/screwed in place but I highly recommend decking it with something. If you go this route plat it and tag me as I would love to see what you ended up with.

Yes, If my memory is correct there are 2 different sizes. You can get very creative and there is great feedback and videos of people using them for Kayak trailers

I was in to Kayaking at one time and how I didn’t do this I seriously considered going with a Harbor Freight trailer and modifying/upgrading it for the Kayaks. If you haven’t already, youtube HF Kayak trailers and you will be amazed at what can be done with these. Happy Yaking

Ponds finally opened up today and had great success with the TRD Spinz, landed about 15 using them for the first time. Not sure how popular they are but can be a little hit and miss, had at least 6 misses which I’m assuming were short strikes due to the cooler temps, think I’ll try inserting the Spinz below the hook next outing. Total catches were over 20 in a 7 hour day.

Thanks, that was my first time in the snow, I was just concerned about sliding down the bank and into the water, ?

Awesome, we are supposed to get mid to upper 30’s end of this weekend Thanks, yeah don’t mind the snow it’s the negative temps and cold winds that make it tough for me

Winter Rewards
Beautiful sunny & 27° day so I wanted to hit a confidence pond and in less than 20 minutes I was rewarded with 2 nice size bass. Didn’t measure them cause it was just too d**n cold. I’m guessing the small one is about 3lbs & larger one is 4lbs. Top 2 are the same bass and the bottom 2 are the same. I purposely went out with a cut down Junebug Hulastick and I couldn’t believe how much fight they had left in them. First one was a thump & run while the second was a tic tic, actually thought I was feeling ice on my line. It was just fun to get out and land these.

Caught this 4 pounder on a Berkley Warpig in Red Craw at one of my favorite ponds. 37° weather with most of the pond iced over.

Pond winter bass
Nice 4 pounder in 37° weather today, most of the pond was iced over so I didn’t have much room to fish. Caught it on the bottom just as the sides started rise. Used Berkley Warpig in Red Craw

black spinnerbaits
This is a very interesting topic for me, not because of the blade discussion but because of the black bait. I received a pack of black worms a couple years ago and couldn’t stop catching fish on them in stained water and couldn’t figure why they were working. Always wanted to get more but just kept putting it off, after reading this I’ll be trying it again.

Pond winter bass
I’ll usually drag a Hula Stick or TRD up the sides of the pond and change up colors and I’ll do the same with a small blade bait just above the vegetation, along the bank usually something with a blade or something that moves water. Nothing specific as the bite and conditions change. For me it’s just a process of elimination until something bites. Also I try and use a paddle tail with any jig head and everything is on the light side

Pond winter bass
Everything mentioned is great advice. One thing that works for me regardless of pond size or depth is working a foot or so outside the vegetation on the banks and I’ll throw out past the sides of the pond and drag the bait up through the vegetation. Good luck.

Went out with (B)assman again yesterday to a few local ponds, we had a good day. Threw several different baits, they seemed to like the blades as they were killing my RoadRunner

Winter Bass Fishing Tips
Spent a couple hours with The (B)assman pond fishing today in the mid to upper 30’s, we had to work around some thin ice that formed overnight but were were able to shore several on the Ned, spinner & roadrunner with a small paddle tail
