  1. +1, I think we can agree on "learn more techniques."
  2. Haha I can't blame ya, I have pretty much no experience with them. It's like hieroglyphics. (Also, dang that's a wierd looking word......hieroglyphics)
  3. Yeah, they are, always changing. Especially if we get high water this year. Last year the water level was normal in the spring. I want to make a long trip down it and explore/fish the whole stretch.
  4. Good luck to you! I finally have my own scale this year instead of using a friends, assuming they're with me. I'm looking forward to finally knowing the weight of those special fish that get the hands shaking.
  5. I'd like to learn dropshot as well. I haven't tried it yet. Hopefully I can figure it out! As for you're weight goals, good luck! I will definitely have a 4+ smallie here but 6 is a big largemouth in my neck of the woods.
  6. Alright, guys and gals, let's take a poll. I wanna hear what everyone's biggest goal is for this coming season. We all have the obvious ones: catch fish, learn new techniques, etc but I wanna know the unique ones. Mine is to explore my local river, the chippewa, in my canoe rig. I've lived here most of my life and feel like I've missed so much time and adventure in my own back yard! Well that's mine, let's hear yours! ~Nik
  7. I have Avids and an LTB. They are similar but very different. The LTB is definitely more sensitive and durable but the Avids are still great and sensitive in their own right. You get what you pay for really. It's gonna come down to which one you prefer in hand and aesthetically. They feel VERY different so if you can get hands on, do it.
  8. I just got a couple packs of 4.5" Roboworms that I can't wait to try out. Dropshot is brand spankin' new to me so I'm looking forward to it! I've asked this same question before and have gotten similar results along with the Anglers Choice Kill Shot (same name as Yum's). It's made in Ontario specifically for dropshotting smallies. It's got a neutral buoyancy that keeps it level in the water, goby/bait fish profile and a thick head for nose hooking. Looks pretty nice.
  9. It sounds like, so far, the Keitechs are the best. I've seen them in stores here but they run $7-$8. Looks like I'll be waiting till I make a tw order online.
  10. The Keitechs are definitely not the cheapest. They look awesome though. Are they very durable? Any experience with their easy shiners? They definitely look pretty.
  11. What's everyone's favorite solid body paddle Tail swimbaits? I don't have much experience outside of the good old Northland Tackle Mimic Minnow (classic around here). I'm interested in using them alone and as swim jig trailers, most likely.
  12. Rapala Husky Jerks were a close second to tubes for me. It worked great all year. Either fishing it with a normal twitch pause or letting it ride the current and get slammed by smallies!
  13. I wanna try Lucky craft slender Pointers but I can't afford to buy a few just to lose them in my rivers. I'd need a loan to make it through a season at 17.99 a pop!
  14. The Bait Monkeyou has struck! Got a pack of gamakatsu dropshot hooks and 2 packs of 4.5 roboworms!
  15. Cabin Creek Salty Critter Jr tube on a 1/8 oz draggin head.
  16. I only have experience with a few but: -Smithwick suspending rogue, used these on a guided trip in Sturgeon bay. -Rapala x-rap -Rapala Husky Jerk, these are my favorite and most productive around here (central wi) -Rapala Shadow Rap, used a lot last year with good results. They are slow sinking and I was a bit timid since I fish snaggy rivers, but overall they were great. I've wanted to try others: slender Pointer, mcsticks, etc but the price is right on Rapala and the fish like them. Can't agree with it.
  17. It really depends on the day, place, water, species I'm targeting.... 1) livetarget frog 2) cavitron buzzbait 3) rebel pop r I don't do a lot of topwater fishing honestly. I should.
  18. Hard to argue with The Maker! Thanks for the amazing jigs btw. I know I only got a few this first time, but the quality is amazing. It's easy to see why your jigs are so highly regarded and recommended. You've got another loyal customer!
  19. Man, those look great! What are the colors on the left? Jig and chunk?
  20. I have the 610mlxf in the legend tournament bass lineup. It's pretty much the ultimate smallie rod for me. I use mine for tubes, finesse jigs, grubs, shakey-head heads, hair jigs....pretty much anythjig with bottom contact. Jerkbaits work well, but its not my first choice. I like a more moderate action for them. It works well with topwater, just as long as you make sure to really pause on a hit, XF action you know?
  21. I use a Confidence Baits Draggin Head. It's a weedless jig with a screw lock on it. They're amazing for me here. Very weedless, rarely snag anything and if it does it's usually because I pushed it and used a tube long after the point stayed buried.
  22. Didn't mean to post this twice. My phone froze up and I re hit submit topic and it ended up reading both. Whoops!
  23. I recently got some Siebert Sniper Jigs and am in need of trailers for them for the spring. They are smaller, 1/4oz finesse jigs. What do you guys use for smaller jigs?
  24. There's a ton of info on here. Just scroll through and look, search various things, etc. There have been similar threads to yours recently so it shouldn't be too hard.
  25. +1 for Bassmaster. I always read (and didn't buy) them from my local bookstore. Always a good time having some coffee and reading some fishing mags. I JUST got my first issue in the mail today too. 1 year and a tackle bag for $10. Not bad. I do love the endless info online but there's something satisfying about a good ole fashioned magazine.
