Has anybody tried a "drop shot fly"
Sorry to revive this post, but thought id put my two cents in. Depending on what type of drop shot fisherman you are,i would recommend two flies. If you twitch like poppoppopopop, .01 second pause, then tie in a weightless minnow pattern fly. If you like a steady cadence and allow for a 1-2second pause, then use weighted fly like a sculpin head or a clouser. Dropshotting flies are too good to be true. They work so well and almost every bite is a guaranteed hookset since the hair just moves out of the way and its straight hook.

Tackle bag or backpack?
Yeah I got a tactical bag that can fit 4 boxes and everything else I need, but it also is 40lbs when I have it stuffed. I realized the more I beat the bank, the more I really minimize my tackle and carry a sling pack. If there are any cranks or jerkbaits, I use the owner treble hook keepers and throw several I may need and head out.

Looking for a dedicated Swimbait Rod
With the time I have put into swimbaits, I definitely prefer two rod types for different swimbaits. For any single hook swimbaits and larger (4oz+) hard body swimbaits I prefer a fast action rod. For treble hook applications such as the s-waver, bbz-1, ganscraft glide baits, I prefer a moderate to moderate fast action rod. This allows more freedom for the lure on the retrieve and also keeps the fish pinned with the treble hooks. Then of course, you may need several rods to throw differences in weight. Great recommendations on this thread, but also check out the Megabass Orochi xx Leviathan rod which is rated for lures 1/2oz-8oz, mod-fast action. Also dont leave out the daiwa zillion swimbait rods out of your decisions.
