Tackle bag or backpack?

Recommended Posts

My question is what's best? Tackle bag or backpack? Currently I have a Plano tackle bag that holds 4 3600 and 2 smaller ones that have 5-6 slots in the side and 1 pocket up front to hold pliers, scale, clippers, etc... I have it LOADED. Don't get me wrong, it's great but I need more room. So I was thinking a backpack. 2 of my friends have them and they love theirs. So what's best? What do you prefer? What are the pros and cons?

I assume you are bank fishing? My preference is to carry A LOT less gear. One small box with a few hooks, a few packs of plastics a couple topwaters and 2 or 3 other baits and it all fits in a small sling pack. You never use everything you are bringing now, why bring even more?

I use a backpack for tournament purposes and can fit an abundant amount of tackle in it. However, when packed lightly for bank fishing specifically I think it would be more convenient than a typical bag.

I downsized a lot in terms of bank fishing tackle. If I'm only going for a couple hours I use one of those two string nike backpacks made of mesh type material. Light and more than I'll need for three hours.

Yeah I got a tactical bag that can fit 4 boxes and everything else I need, but it also is 40lbs when I have it stuffed. I realized the more I beat the bank, the more I really minimize my tackle and carry a sling pack. If there are any cranks or jerkbaits, I use the owner treble hook keepers and throw several I may need and head out.

If you're bank fishing you're bringing wayyyyy too much tackle as it is.  Backpack for sure so you can stay mobile, and cut down on what you bring.

You can carry a considerable amount of tackle when bank fishing just because your fishing the bank doesn't mean you don't need a good arsenal. I use a TW bag I'm able to carry three 3700s one 3600 loaded with terminal tackle and a boat load of soft plastics this bag is very easy and convenient to carry.

i have both. i have my main tackle bag which carries most of my tackle to cover most any situation. but im not going to carry that around a pond while bank fishing. im going to transfer some stuff from there into my back pack. i carry some hooks, weights, knife, pliers, scale, tape measure, throw in several bags of plastics, and a couple of the slotted tackle boxes for a few cranks/topwaters/etc...its much easier to pick up and move with the back pack, and its much lighter. now when i go to my uncles house on Smith Mountain Lake, im carrying the full tackle bag and the back pack stays at home, as im stationary on the dock most of the weekend, and its easy just to set it in the boat when we go out to fish...

I guess I way over - do it. I carry a backpack AND a tacklebag. The backpack holds 10 3600 size boxes and my spools of leader, scale, gloves, face buffs, pliers, scissors, etc.

The tacklebag has all my plastics and scents, plus worm hooks and all my plastic rigging stuff.

Each bag weighs 20 pounds. I know this is alot but I hate being at the lake or spot I'm fishing and wishing I had brought such and such lure or plastic.

I also carry 5 rigs in a rod caddy from cabelas. I usually don't carry all of this around when I fish, instead I usually find a spot and set it all down.

Hey....just want to throw in my .02 .....just bought a Cabela's advanced angler bag in size Magnum....holy craptastic is it a sweeet bag. I bought it cause I am doing tournaments as a co/angler this year. It fits like 8 3600's and 4 3601's which are the slimmer ones. plus on the outside pockets each can hold a 3600 x 4 plus the lid carries all my spare spools of line has holsters for pliers, scissors etc. it has so much room I am seriously getting laughed at by the bait monkey. I did not name all the room it has so there is my recommendation.

I use a gym bag that holds seven 3700 series boxes, plus it has pockets at both ends that will hold all the terminal tackle I need and a front pocket that holds my sunglasses, sun block, insect repellent, JJ's, pliers, cutters, buff and whatever else I can fit in it. Sometimes I need a two wheel hand cart to tote it around, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

My other 'tackle back pack' is my boat. It sits back of my car and I can pack a whole lotta shuff in it.
