  2. Crickets do work good but to me they are a pain to deal with.'gills and other species all like worms so I just use them. If you have ever had the cricket box fall over in the boat you'd understand.
  3. Exactly. I've posted awhile back about it,but from a little different angle. My home lake is only16 acres but it's just big enough to be interesting.Deepest water is 7-8 feet.North end averages maybe 4 feet with a couple of holes up to 7.This end of the lake is nearly covered with eel grass ,niad, and algae. This is the man made end they created in part by damming a shallow Creek.T he middle section has an island with a lot of brush and downed trees.Water averages 5-6 feet around it.Good shade here at different times of the day.T here are a couple of good drop offs here too. The south end we call the circle. Its wide and round.Deepest avg.water of 5-8 feet.Has several distinct holes.Floating islands of eel grass sporadically. Was originally a Cypress pond that the creek originally flowed into and was logged out in the 50s. I have several big fish spots at each part of the lake that consistently hold big fish. The south end probably holds bigger fish, but I've caught more big UN's at the North end because I live there. I have caught big fish on frogs, large worms,Flukes, senkos, brush hogs, trick worms, curly tail worms, and of course, live bait. They seem to bite better in the morning in spring and in the afternoon the rest of the year.Catches of 20 in half a day ( one person) are common. The lake is fairly clear.T he best color is anything watermelon. The lake is best fished SLOW with t- rigs.Frog bite is just fair , the same as all top waters here. I really appreciate living where I do.Got a j- boat and kayak ready to go 30 feet from the back door. Its nice to head out after work for a few hours and appreciate the beauty of creation, and of course, the Creator.A few bass and I'm even better.
  4. Tell us about the water body you fish the most,Its characteristics and how you fish it.
  5. Hey,Im on that bus too!
  6. I was already smiling while reading this thread. Then When reading this post about "Bogfoot"I burst out laughing in Zaxbys. No disrespect intended, but thanks for making my day!? Then I read this......?
  7. I took this picture today of the most symmetrical bream beds I've ever seen.I didn't have my bream gear or I would have caught some.Looks like a honeycomb. Sorry but the pic is upside down.
  8. I'd harvest some of everything .I'd go proportionately high on the specks. They eat a lot of the same things bass do. There's a site you can Google.I think it's called pond boss ,that should have some helpful information.
  9. i think most of it is either hoax or hype.People want them to exist so bad. I get it.Its cool to think there is something mysterious lurking around out there.I do the same thing with Florida Panthers. They are rare but I'm sure there's more of them out there than what is known. I do believe there are unexplained mysteries that we don't know about out there.I just don't think bfs are one of them.
  10. I've posted it before, but it wasn't close to the lake record of 13 1/2 pounds.Heard of an unconfirmed 14. The lake used to be full of 10-12 inch shiners and big bass.I was catching some 7-9 inchers until over a year or so ago.I think the bass have eaten up most of them for the time being. These are 2 of the bigger bass I've caught in my home lake but not the biggest.Cant find that pic.at the moment. mike
  11. I respect your right to believe what you want but I 100% do not believe they exist. There is just no evidence. Not a live or dead one ever found.I don't care how smart, instinctive, etc. They supposedly are.T here is just no way one wouldn't have been found in this day and age. Also, one has never been seen on a trail cam.How is that possible if they really exist?
  12. Shiner.Best bass bait there is. I caught one that was between 12-13 inch .
  13. I took my friends son fishing and towards dark we started seeing bats. Not unusual here in the summer. He mentioned that he was scared of bats. Not 30 minutes later one flew between his rod and line and got stuck,as he was flipping his rod up and down trying to get some weeds off his line.He didn't realize it had been a bat until I told him.
  14. I bought me some Z-Man frogs.First time user.Cast a few times and pulled the frog out of the water.Right then a hawk flew right under my arm and attacked the frog while it was dangling 2 feet or so from the end of the rod.As soon as he realized his mistake,he disengaged and flew off into a tree.Just glad he wasn't hooked!!
  15. My specialty is soft plastic baits.I NEVER use snaps, swivels etc.I tie directly to the hook.1.Action of the bait is not reduced 2. Fish are not turned off by the extra hardware.3. Bait sinks slower, which is critical.4. I have personally never met anyone who uses them with soft plastics that caught ANY. A friend fished my home lake in the spring,When catches of 20+ fish are not uncommon, just fishing mornings. Him and his friend caught NOTHING .I couldn't believe it.Found out later they were using snap swivels. The only advantage I see to them for ANY application is convenience.
  16. I have an eel grass and algae issue around my dock.Think this would help,or anything else? Gonna post on a forum about it too. Thanks
  17. ^^ Lol . did that with a trot line one night.
  18. Find out what the main forage in the lake is ,then catch the biggest ones you can find and fish with them.I also chum a few areas continually. This attracts everything in the food chain including big bass. Artificially,I have done best on BIG worms and senkos. Also frogs, floating and sinking.
  19. I have dozens of early fishing memories with my dad.The first one I remember I was 4 or so and I had begged my dad to take me fishing. We were in the marsh at Ft Fisher NC.,ironically where my GGPA had got wounded and captured in the war between the states. We waded out and cast out and caught some kind of little perch looking fish.I wanted to keep it,but dad made me throw it back. That was amazing because he never threw ANYTHING back.I still remember the salt and marsh smell, the mud oozing up and the view.Wind was blowing hard too.And my dad holding on to me so I didn't fall.Seems like it just happened. But when I really got hooked I went surf fishing with my cousin and my dad at ocean isle bch.NC.I caught a big drum.Ill never forget the fight, and hoping it wouldn't get off.My cousin caught a nice flounder too.My dad didn't catch anything but he was just as excited because we had caught our fish. After that,I wanted to go all the time.I owe my love for fishing to my dad,who always made time for fishing with me( and my baseball games). He passed away 8 years ago.Still have his fishing hat,rod rack, tackle box,And his favorite rod and reel.Best man I ever knew.
  20. It's a grunt.Not a sea bass or sailor's choice.
  21. My wife had their little wagon from the late 80s.She loved it.Had 3 wrecks with it( none were her fault) and walked away from them all,if I remember correctly without a scratch. She could compete with me in the mud with my truck cause it was so light.but I had her on the ground clearance. I love their commercial when the daughter keeps growing up when they show her in various stages of life with the car as she's getting older. And that song is so...haunting.Makes you wonder where time has gone.
  22. Just a report on the job situation. I decided to wait it out for awhile.Things have calmed down again.Check has been up.I haven't had any more conflicts.( except a few nutty customers).Reasons for waiting 1. It's my nature.Ive been waiting for something all my life so I'm better at it than the average bear.2.The pay IS good.Even with the extra hours and hassles.3.My flexible schedule allows me to help my elderly mom with Dr apps.etc.and allows me to pick up and/or drop off 2 G- Kids I'm raising from school.4.My commute to the office is only 10 minutes.5. I actually love working with the customers.6. It's an outside job mostly,so I'm not cooped up in an office all day. I work alone so It's me and God all day.7.When work slows down and I'm passing a pond,I can get my pole out and try it,since I'm not on the clock. So I guess the good still outweighs the bad. I'll try to behave and ride it out. Mike
  23. I would have done what you did .I like dogs but wouldn't fight over someone else's dog.
