  1. UNBELIEVABLE! (mine is the blue one) I'll check in later 2nite. Thanks/Papa
  2. Papa here...I'm using the Garmin eTrex Legend. You've already made it sound lots simpler than the manual.
  3. I guess Glenn will handle it, right? So here goes. Let's start out like we're leaving the dock, I've turned the unit on and it's already located satelites. Now then, what do you do to: (1) enter your departure location, (2) enter location you caught a fish, (3) return to the dock? Multiple waypoints (backtracking to them) lastly. OK?? Papa
  4. Coldsteel, ya got me to thinking, which at my age is a feat in itself. Memory @ any age is fallible. The details of a successful day can be forgotten. I'm considering the simplest way to keep up with details and log them for the next trip. A voice-activated digital tape recorder is to be my next purchase in lieu of the latest whiz-bang lure out this season. A palm pilot would work, I guess, but since I'm not tech savy, I will K.I.S.S. I want to fish, not sit in the boat trying to figure out electronics. Then I'll jot my info down in a small logbook kept in the boat. My 512K RAM is currently @ 64K at my age. Papadew
  5. I forgot to ask, but if we gotta go outside and amble around, Bud in OREGON, and others, may be up to their keesters in SNOW! Hope the neighbors don't think I'm nuts when I walk into trees fiddlin' with this thing. Papa
  6. ;)You mean I'm not ALONE?! Well , Bud, looks like we got outselves a convoy. Steve, what d'ya think? You up for such a massive (in my case) undertaking?......Papa (slow lerner) Dew
  7. RE: Anyone from NC.....L. Jordan brings back some unbelievable memories of the year they opened it to fishing. 200 + bass per day not uncommon. So help me God! The first time I went, I took my then 8 yr old son, now 33, and he still talks about it. We caught 80+ on plastic worms. Went back later on and caught literally hundreds. Used a whole 100-count bag of purple firetail Mann's Jelly Worms. Haven't fished it since because locals fished it out in no time at all and now it is like any other lake, I guess. Would like to fish it this spring in March/April if the water level is safer. C&R Papadew/
  8. Steve........You DID read the topic of this thread didn't you? When I say "dummy" I mean DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEE! (Thanks to Ron White fer that one) I'll be shooting you an e-mail soon. Had a death in the family this morning, so it will be a few days. And THANKs for the offer! Papa/soon to be a high-teck redneck/Dew
  9. My brain was trained by my dad & grandad to look for certain signs, to frequently check behind you for prominent features, etc. I can honestly say I've never been lost, even slightly. Even in the years in the military. But I wish I still had the 512 > RAM I had THEN. Me thinks I'm @ 64K and need my hard drive defragged badly!! Waiting on the instructional video from Cabela's (along with some DT 6 and 10's and YUM Sooie's). Creature baits are the new hot bait for me locally. C&R Papa
  10. Good idea Bud. Even the GPS nuts site is a challenge. A video might be the thing. Old dogs/new tricks. Maybe my 5 yr old grandson could show me how. He can use a PC better'n me. Papa
  11. Now all's I gotta figure out is whether to buy the $89 CD for the eTrex Legend and if I'll have to pay another $89 for the "unlock" code online. Anyone know if this is the way this works? At these prices, I figure it might be better to just be lost most of the time :-/Papa
  12. Thanks Bud in Oregon. Like me here in the Blue Ridge Mtns, you're in some wild territory. GPS can save your life here, and Lake Norman, NC being the "inland sea" it's gonna save lots of lost fishing time. Thanks for your help, Papa
  13. Wonder if Homer Simpson could help me out??? Papa
  14. Couldn't figure out where to post this ??? but does anyone sell a "Cliff's Notes" or GPS for Dummies. I've admittedly not tried hard, but it's hard to drive and fiddle with the eTrex. Instruction manual confused me (so does a lot of things). I'm old school, but don't want to get lost @ nite on new lakes. It ain't Alzheimer's YET, just Old Timer's/ Papa
