  1. Anyone know if any place makes one. I can jerry rig a plumbing one in but it will take A LOT OF WORK. Have to remove the full back deck and live wells to get in there. Right know I have rubber plug stuffed inside the outlet. I get about 2.5 inches of water coming in from it and the engine mount on a very very steep ramp. It's enough weight to give the 50 hp some undue effort. Also no, for some reason the manufacture mounted the pump about 3 inches high on a plate( 2005 19' Crestliner) and again full deck removal to correct. I'm too lazy for that.
  2. For anyone that goes to Edwards Ferry down river from Whites Ferry don't go. The bridge over the C&O canal didn't pass vehicle inspection and the main gate it closed. Potomac flooded with super high current as of March2,2021
  3. The Maryland DNR news letter on fishing spots has a snakehead listing always. I think you'll have to register with them. Possibly on the "click before you cast" section. you'll have to look around
  4. the dnr released 30,000 small mouth between Taylors landing and Edwards ferry.. good luck
  5. where in the lake, and on what.... I need to catch one? A guy told me he caught one but I thought it was a fish story. It's disappointing that they got dumped into the lake or streams. I wonder if the DNR is still paying a bounty for them? Now I really want to go back out, even if my legs say no I'm going. I'm only 30 min away. cool pic
  6. Thanks to all. I did some measurements and it looks like it's coming in on. the bilge pump outlet. I haven't tested it yet, but a doubt there is flapper value on it. it was under water for about a minute before the boat floated up. and yes it is a very steep ramp ( short too).
  7. Little seneca lake ( Blackhills) in the 90's and early 2000's was incredible!!!! Every time I would catch 4-5 3 pounders. Even caught one on an unused rod with a super tiny yellow spinner hanging a few inches in the water. They would hit on anything and everything all day. Even, in the early 90's the tiger muskie would hit ( I learned to carry a bat after the first one ripped my fingers apart). Now as Kicker said, it's full of kayakers everywhere, I suspect from the massive Clarksburg build up. In the week in the 90's I was the only boat out. Not anymore. It is very very busy with new rather difficult rangers that haven't learned the lake or procedures yet ( mainly storm warnings, they don't do them anymore). I've come close to dropping the outboard a few times. So far it's been a bust for me, but all I have it topwater and a few deep diving crank baits, nothing to really get into the hydrilla grass....yet. Good luck Oh on the weekend, you have to get a few miles out and still your more likely to snag a kayaker than a fish.
  8. That river used to be the sewer for DC. I'm surprised fish can live in it now. But that info is from the late 70's. You can try and contact the MD DNR, sometimes they answer emails.
  9. If your up for a 2 to three day drive. Guntersville Lake in AL. it's massive 72 miles long, boat ramps every mile. A freind lives down there and the winter fishing is great compared to MD. It MIGHT get down to 40 deg in Feb. Prices are very good around Huntsville and scottsbourgh. The park rents out John through pontoon boats ( but closed in winter). Very very little development, coves everywhere. They have tournaments there all the time and a lot of suicide power boat races. I'd be there now except for COVID
  10. your brave for touching it. I wouldn't eat anything from that river, ever
  11. I've got a friend coming over to the ramp next week to check out a lot of what you guys are saying. I can't twist due to a back injury. So I've ordered a clip on mirror. Been wanting to anyway as the steering trim seems off, but I can't see the motor Also yes during launch the water is high enough it comes in at the holes at the top of the motor, then drain out. It's reasonable to expect some is getting down into the boat. I have plugs for these and I will try it in the driveway. I thought about backwash also but like I said I can't see it happen. I'll have my friend video it all. He's NEVER been on a boat before.... oh man is he going to complain about the life preserver. Thanks, been having bad dreams. Spent 14K on it in 2006 new, sat in garage due to family and health issues, the outboard has only been used 3 times, electric about a dozen...now a major hull fix...nah don't think so. Thanks for all the info it's appreciated. oh. I did fill it up enough that half the bilge pump was covered. nothing leaked out in 4 hours. I guess now worst case is to put a float switch in on the bilge pump and bypass the main switch ( or not?). Looking more and more like this boat will stay local for this year anyway, no VA, AL, TN, NC with it and stupid COVID-19. Yep B.O.A.T. Bust Out Another Thousand
  12. thanks. what's perplexing me is use OUTBOARD IT LEAKS twice in each time. DON'T USE OUTBOARD, NO LEAKS AT ALL.
  13. Just an FYI: I took it to the Potomac this morning and the reviews for that spray were right. My brother came along to give me a chance to power launch it.....well I couldn't, why? Every time he turned the winch to get some slack the boat slipped off tight again. I ended up throwing him the bow line to pull me in some so he could get it off. Then the entire thing slide off before I even got it into gear. Oh power loading was fun and very easier than winching
  14. Hi. This is a very stupid question but I have a 2005 17' creastliner that been sitting in my garage for it's life. I've done some work to it and had it out three times so far this year ( stupid Virus). Ok 1st. Took it to river had some issues t fix, when I got home there was at least 10 gallons of water in it. 2nd. tightened the screw in plug with an adjustable wrench( narrow to fist slot). Took it to an electric only lake.NO LEAKS 3rd took it back to river, had about 5 gallons in it in 2 hours, not enough for the pump to work, but a lot drained out. also yes it was tightened the same way. Came home checked everything I could, even had the livewell pipping under pressure, no leaks. Now for the really dumb part. this thing does screw in very nice and has a new o ring on it as of today. I put marine grease on threads and o ring. I apologize but that used to be a expandable rubber seal ( like the live well). Is it normal for these thing to partial leak sometimes? It's just a black plastic threaded plug and receiver, very cheap looking and feel. Thanks.
  15. Just a FYI: I was up at Dam #4 today July 1,2020 to test out my engine. There were thousands and thousands of dead half decayed minnows floating everywhere. about 1 every foot at the least. I went up about 2 miles before turning around. If anyone has any idea why let me know. The river was very high and fast last week. Could be damage from that or bad water quality. I asked the MD DNR about the limestone dumping but have not gotten a reply. They all were the same size, like a fisheries release. At this point the upper Potomac is off for this season. Oh, I putted back down at 4mph crisscrossing the slackwater, my fish finder NEVER went off, even in the deep holes.
  16. Well turns out I was just a little off in my expectations. I. measured the distance on Google, it's not a mile......its 2.5 miles to the good spots. Not what that 46 lb was built for. Little too much for a 46lb 12V. I measured its top speed in calm water, 2.8 mph @ approx 20 Amp draw. I can do it now but 1 hour out and 1 hour back in at best. I'll look into that 80 lb 24V for Christmas around $700 now. Even though it's a Motor guide ( for me manufacturing problems) the Minn Kotas range $1,000 to $3,000. My 24v? I either loaned it out or sold it, I can barely remember now. Thanks to all, you've all been a great help. PS: A guy ripped the bow hook off his brand new bayliner, why? Didn't know about safety chain. it's stuff like this that make me feel good that I'm not the only boat idiot around.
  17. I was told last Wed June 24,2020 that snakeheads are in seneca lake in Boyds MD. That's a little close. Haven't seen anything other than bass minnows. The big ones are staying at the bottom in the grass. 2.5 miles from ramp
  18. Shakedowns almost done, need to solder the spade connectors on the trolling motor( that thing had to be built on a Monday morning or Friday afternoon, everything has come loose), look into using my 24V Stern Motor other than that it was a really good day even with fixing the loose spade connectors. I readjusted the motor and it works much better now, much easier to control and it did fairly well. I'll look into using my 24V stern Motor later this week, saw three boats with them today.
  19. @A-Jay WOW man thanks a ton. went out today and that stuff is like ice. like the reviews said it would slide back off the trailer. I pulled it on most of the way with the rope. That was impossible before. Didn't catch anything but all I had was top water stuff. I got the right tackle on the way home. Shakedowns almost done, need to solder the spade connectors on the trolling motor( that thing had to be built on a Monday morning or Friday afternoon, everything has come loose), look into using my 24V Stern Motor other than that it was a really good day even with two very young pain in the neck Federal Park Rangers. Again Thanks a lot.
  20. y'all pobally already know this. I used to fish fom the shore at the Dickerson warm water outlet, before and after it was converted to a kayak training ground. My neighbor is a retired from that power plant. It's basically closed now, converted to Natural gas and only used as backup. This as of June 2020. I have a nice bass boat that I'm finally able to use ( been in the garage since 2006, long story) and I'm getting the hang of it's personality. I am still doing shakedown cruises at d**n #4 and blackhills but it's down to minor adjustments and small annoying things. Seneca was really bad in March 2020, a foot of mud and tons of downed trees. My neighbor goes to Nolans ferry with a jet boat. I won't but I've seen a lot of proped boats coming up that road. Blackhills as of two weeks ago have millions of 3-4 inch bass minnows. That lake was a puddle awhile back and hasn't seem to recover yet. Been fishing it since 1990 and ALWAYS caught 2-3 pounders at the end of the lake. I caught 3 minnows on lures half their size on that trip. If anyone is headed anywhere give me a shout, I'm retired so everyday is ground hog day.
  21. Cool man... yep I'm still living in the 80's for most of the time. Bad music time
  22. @WRB Sorry had a senior moment for awhile. I ran 2 6 AWG wires from outboard battery over to trolling motor battery. Put them in the plastic protection stuff and put bolts with wing nuts on the connectors then taped them up. Now I have 3 options. 1) Parrell 2) Switch over to single 3) maybe go to 24V ( yes I have another 24V motor with a VERY LONG SHAFT ( I missed that spec when I ordered it 25 years ago). I have to dig it out, might be able to rig it next to outboard and use its steering. I meant to go out yesterday and silicon down the bunk boards but my back and legs said no way, oh well. Thanks for the electric knife suggestion, we used to use them on the farm on tractor batteries with solar panels on the shed roof. We had two with bad designed and leaky electrical systems ( don't ask ). That's why they came to mind. Thanks a ton, you've saved my butt on these reservoirs.
  23. oh, forgot to say. electric lake, no power loading, and a strange dock. power loading is still a bit hard on a steep ramp. I'll see what happens after the treatment Thursday or Friday. thanks
  24. Thanks. My neighbor has a jet boat and he goes everywhere. I've checked those ramps out but no way with a prop. I'm running a 17' creastliner, 50 hp merc, cheaply loaded but I like it better than my 13' row boat. It doesn't act like a sail in the wind, and slam you into the bank every time a boat passes. yep, seneca is iffy. I went there with the other boat and a 25 hp. no issues until the 1969 evinrude locked up( cheap oil they said). Was down there in March a foot of mud on the ramp and dozen trees on the acguduct. I will look, but are those lower Potomac ramps in VA? I spent two days in southern MD looking and didn't find a single one until point lookout. Never thought of parks for some reason, oh well maybe another road trip to southern MD. Thanks again Oh, I see you have lake Gaston listed. I've been thinking a lot about that one. are there hotels that can handle a trailer? it's a days drive, even bypassing the DC area
  25. yep....I can do that part of 95 but it can be stressful. It's about a 2 hour drive with no backups. I got a good answer off a website that I'm sure I can't say on my mercury 50hp problems. it will take a week to work through..( full carb and fuel system cleaning). Thanks for the info.
