  1. I'll look into it. I wonder how in the world you got a good price. I live next to the most expensive county in the US. There are many Chesapeake boat places, other than that just a Bass Pro and a few Ranger dealers. Forget about dealing price with them. I check it out in a few hours, taking the boat to make sure it will fit. Right now I'll take the chance if he drops it to $225.00. Hopefully I'll get a year out of it and learn more about what works best on this boat. Also maybe he will go will loaning it out with a deposit. Which makes the most sense now if it fits. I bought the boat for the storage, after getting it the weight difference really has gotten me bad. Oh so far it looks like I can get all the electronic parts from a old military electronic parts supply house ( relay's, drivers, control logic, variable resistors , ect) and get others made on a 3D printer. I'll search Ebay for the above motor also. Thanks for all the help. You all have opened my eyes to many things I would have never considered.?
  2. Yep, i have a 17 foot panfishing boat. I also fish sitting down and there really isn't a good spot to mount the pedal as it blocks a storage compartment. Thanks a lot it is starting to make sense now. Might just wait and maybe check out a local Bass Pro to see what's out there now.
  3. Thanks. I guess due to the pandemic everything is expensive. Minn Kotas site saying something about being out of stock on most things. I'll keep your price in mind and see what happens. He did say I could mount it and use it for a bit with a deposit. The lake is only 5 miles from him. I'm seeing local prices of $2,000 to $4,000 for any 24V bow mount. I can't do more than 24V unless I take off the 50HP and gas tank.
  4. Yeah, it seems super cheap $325.00 and 12 miles away. And I specifically need it for a local lake thats electric only. I need to get out 2.5 miles. With my motor on a calm day it's an hour. In wind forget it I'm not getting back in without the outboard and resulting fine. I looked them up and it doesn't seem Minn Kota supports them anymore, I saw one place that can fix the foot pedal in MN. There is a re-manufactured one with a year warranty for $700.00. Thanks I'm getting less hyped up about this deal. I'll see tomorrow. Have any idea what that box is, looks like part of the motor and not the mount. My experience has always been with stern mounts. So I ask dumb questions The looks if it.. hummm your right, if it sat outside all winter for years that motor has ice damage somewhere
  5. I've been looking on the internet and something doesn't seem right. Look at the pic below, that big square/rectangular thing is new to me and I can't find anything about it. This is an old motor I suspect . If anyone knows let me know
  6. Thanks a ton. The pics an electic foot pedal type. I'll see if i can look at the control board, I spent 15 years doing component level repair, mostly with very limited docs(no schematic). The steering aspect looks good to me as my MG has horribly fast uncontrollable steering. Hard to start then swings super fast. No constant resistance at all. Again thanks a lot, never would have thought to check it. Oh i had a very old minn kpta 4hp 24v. I fried three switches in it until i couldn't get them anymore. But it was nice.
  7. I got the pics and spec finally, moved to an ihop. Looks real good, i remeber some very good comments in the past. I'll still take any feedback
  8. I've found a 24v bow mount. It's as shown above Any comments would be welcome. Minn kotas site says it's electric steer and no foot pedel. I'm so old i don't know what they mean. Is it a hand cable maybe. I've tried to find good pics but the internet stinks today. Amy ingo at all please Thanks
  9. The water was coming in from the bilge pump exit. I've stopped going to that ramp and all other super steep ones around. This is so steep you have to tie your line to the trailer a foot out to be able to get the bow hook off. Thank you for all the valuable input
  10. Fixed this year. Yep 90% coming in on bilge pump exit. A rubber stopper helped a lot. But main fix is I'm ditching that ramp. Found a much better one 10 miles downstream. Learning all the little things on this boat has been kinda of a pain but I hope I'm almost at the end. Just maybe an angle adjustment on my outboard, might be pulling to the left a little to much. Not sure yet waiting on a calm day. Thanks for all the input, got me head working again.
  11. I really want to get a 24V Bow mount Minn Kota with the big plastic prop. Used one on a rental at Guntersville. My only issue is they at between $1,000 and $3,000 new and rare as hens teeth used. At this point I'd give my MG away to the first sucker that shows.
  12. Thanls for the info. I have a cheap MG that has been a nightmare so far. . I haven't mounted the foot pedal yet as i haven't found a comfortable spot. Your suggestion of angling it will help. Also i too find the handling poor. Fast pedal and it tends to jerk left or right hard if you take your foot off it. It just might be an adjustment, but after soldering every terminal and lock tight every screw I'm more that fed up with it. Again thanks, lifting the front a bit should help. Good luck with it.
  13. Ok.fixed... yep the 2amp inline fuse was blown. Where was it....in the middle of a massive zip tied bundle behind the fuse block. Also the ground was very loose. All working now. I also am a long retired EE and repair tech while in school but I've forgotton 90% of my stuff. I still remember ohms law and how to use a meter and soldering iron. In any case had to fix the speedometer hose anyway
  14. Yeah, I do have a good DMM and checked it out correctly. I avoid the techno talk as it puts people to sleep. I'll have to make up a long cable to the battery for a ground reference. One thing came to mind while sleeping. The Fuse block is really hidden away and very hard to get to but due to two many wires going to it and color of many of the wires ( to many Black ones) it's also a power and Ground Buss bar connection. Also all the wires are bundled with zip ties everywhere so there is a possibility that there is an inline fuse in there. So cut the zip ties, look, check the buss, keep tracing, and if all else fails try calling Crestliner. Although for the life of me I can't see why they would have it buried under the deck somewhere. No indication of mice or squirrels. Thanks a lot for the reply I didn't expect any at all. Oh, yes the display is terrible. I have another one from the 90's that I liked and can rig up in a hour or so. I'll check the display out in the garage with the lights off, many it was coming on and I couldn't see it. Won't be the first time.
  15. I have an old Garmin fishfinder 125 that does not turn on. It was installed with the boat. I've checked just about everything so far ( with the exception of a 2 amp fuse Garmin recommends, I have yet to find it with the console apart) . There is no voltage at the connector nor was I able to find a ground ( retired electronics person). I have looked but can't seem to find a pin out of the cable and due to the boat( Crestliner cx17) tracing is very very difficult. At this point I've lost power and ground ( I used the cigarette ground as a reference). No help from Garmin so far. Anybody have a clue where I can get some info? I wouldn't mine putting in a better one and plan on looking into it, however I'll have to have it installed which from what I want would be very costly ( 2 hook ups, one console one bow). Any info would help out a lot. Thanks
  16. Great news for you, BUMMMER for me. was out in blackhills with boat Tuesday and ran into some trouble never got more than 1/2 mile past ramp. I went down to Seneca/Potomac and ran the outboard for an hour. On the way back there were cars all over the sides of 121 near the bridge and a line of people on the trail. I might try it out Friday, thanks. In the 90's that area over to the sunken road was pure gold, about 5-6 2-3lbs every time. Even got 4 tigermuskgee( at that time it was a mandatory kill species there), and I don't think any trails. The really good note. NO BOATS ON THE LAKE ?. Yep the water was a tad bit chilly
  17. Ok new year that ISN'T 2020 YEAH!!!!!! It's better already as most of my dumb questions were answered ( I do apologize for their inepititude) and figured out in the past month and the last year from space. The Boat slides off the trailer now without a loaders push, the trolling motor works consistently, the outboard purrs like a kitten, there is no water in the boat after a day out anymore. Just one annoyance and probably a fuse , Garmin fishSomething 125 died on me today in the Potomac. Probably something has taken loose on the thing or mice in the wiring. Now can I brag a bit. did my fist power load by myself today. No big deal right, for me it is ,disabled everything. Now to not get skunked out this year like 2020..does three minnows, some bluegill and a catfish count?
  18. Hey, I was down there a few years ago and got hopelessly lost due to MA GOOGLE MAPS. I finally found the park but in all my driving around no hotels anywhere. Just dozens of private golf courses and private landing strips. I'm about 2 hours from there and would like to check it out if I can get a hotel. Any suggestions on places to look at? As I said many many very well off "private communities" but not much else. Any town , keyword, area would help, I'll use the one above. My legs won't allow a single day trip anymore. Thank you
  19. Just a thought. You might want to consider Raystown Lake east of Altoona. It's a haul but it's very nice. Was up there about 6 weeks ago. No development 6-7 ramps, 2 gas pumps. It's looks like a really good lake to learn your boat on. I'm planing on going up this week or next for a few days to better learn my creastliner without having to fight the Potomacs current. The upper Potomacs current is deceptively bad in spots and there are a lot of the very dangerous low head damns there. The other places are the top of the bay and susquehanna. I've been told they are great but each time I was there, there were 1 foot chop everywhere. Good luck
  20. Thanks. I'm going to do some of that but due to a disability the batteries stay with possibly steel cables ( don't know yet if I can do it). HAHAHA I called another hotel and then checked them out. you have to park on the side of the highway and walk 1/4 mile up a hill. But oh yeah they had parking. Also I'm taking the cover and the engine cover. figure if they can't see what's there it might help, along with an motion alarm I have to order. Maybe Bass Pro shops has it nearby? I like AJ's idea. Oh well I'm going to check Raystown Lake in PA out next week for a day or so, still waiting on my boat stickers. The water is still around 40-45 deg here and probably lower in PA. Still a bit chilly. Oh I'll tak weld the nuts this week. Thanks a bunch.
  21. ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGG!!!!!!! This is just a aggravation post. Ok I looked up a bunch of hotels near Deep Creek MD. My MAC laptop doesn't have google earth yet so I started calling the listed hotels.......... Guess what???? It took 50 minutes for me to find the ACTUAL LOCAL PHONE NUMBER TO THAT HOTEL!! When I called the first one they said yes but I'd have to park on the grass, no problem. The second said yes of course they did, I looked at it on my phones "earth" ( as I've past it many times), NO they don't. Man you can't get a 1 ton truck into that place. Well now I know how to get the phone numbers, do a search on name, address, then local phone number. I'll see if I can load google earth onto this MAC. On a good note the outboard fired up on second turn over. Tires still good, batteries seem ok right now. Oh the hotel sites, does anyone now of one that has "trailer parking" as a filter. None that I looked at did. There is a truckers site I'll look at next
  22. @Smalliefan2 Wow thanks. I was very much considering the Scottsbourgh area. Been there twice and a friend lives nearby. Don't remember a Hampton Inn there but it's spread out. Probably head out when AL covid goes down. There are many trailers with parking and electric hook ups all along the bank around there.Good thing with Guntersville there is a ramp every 1/2 mile all over that lake. For me it's a 3 day drive to get there. The coniwingo has been on my list but I traveled I95 through there for years. I NEVER EVER didn't get stuck in a long backup. Even at 2:00am. I'm starting to look at Raystown Again, Deep creek has severe trouble with trailers ( was there last month, although not ice fishing). Thanks to all.
  23. Well I've been kinda depending on the hotel sites, Expedia type ones. Mainly due to a cantankerous leg. Some times I can drive 10 hrs other times 4 hrs. I'll check the address out on google earth where it works, lots of areas only have 1X cell service around here,MD, VA,NC, and AL. I guess I can start scheduling a bit better say 7 hrs or so. I'm starting from the DMV area. Only the Potomac and cheasapeke, no lakes to learn this boat on. Also, I NEED PRACTICE ( it's vey very different than a 13' row boat with a 7.5 hp on it ??) Thanks I appreciate it greatly.
  24. Sorry for such a stupid question but I don't have any places to take my boat and use the outboard for a day trip where I live ( all electric only lakes). I would like to take it down to AL and TN to Guntersville and other lakes. I've been looking online for hotels that have trailer parking but have not come up with many, particularly while on the road. Is there some keyword or site I can use to find a place during transit. I was previously steered away from trucking hotels due to damage and theft. 2005 17' crest liner Bass boat 50Hp merc. Puny trolling motor. Any input with be greatly appreciated Thank you.
  25. Dink , no it's right below the top rim, gunwale maybe, I'm not very nautical. But where I was launching is very very steep and drops off into mud fast so it's a delicate matter getting it in and the boat floating ( it floats up a foot when it releases). It took 4L to get the trailer back up once. Also I had considerable bunk board trouble last year and I siliconed them down. It's so slick you can't get any slack on the bow line now. It's a little scary when you get the winch catch setting just right and that handle fly's around at 100 mph ??. Thank god I have a 40' safety line tied to the truck I have a tapered plug in it now with a line attaching it to the deck. FYI: in case your around MD it's the Big Slackwater ramp on the upper Potomac. Oh 17' crest liner, and very heavy.
