Good spots on upper Potomac?
WOW Thank you.. I only knew of one of those and one in Aberdeen ( Don't go there unless you really know the area, was detained by the base cops for 5 hours, missed a turn and ran straight into the base) This was before GPS... Why was I detained...they were bored, oh well????

Old Motor Guide Piece of Junk?
Nah...been retired for 10 years now.. I forgotten 99% and the 1% I don't care. I'll have to check to see if the outboard is grounded to the boat if not it should work. Don't know yet, I'll call and see what would happen if I used the outboard to get back in. Either that or put in a small garden tractor battery as a spare. Thanks. PS: hey, now I remember, skin effect on wires....crap now I'm an engineer again Does this mean I have to go back to work?

@Russ E Yep... got into the wind and went 1/4 mile backward. I came close to dropping the outboard and paying the ticket.

Old Motor Guide Piece of Junk?
Ahhh. I'm a retired electrical engineer and I never did like that run of 10 AWG wire they used. Hopefully they are lose inside the cover and I can pull some bigger wire or 4 10 AWG's through it. The knife switches are so I don't have to switch wires. Most of the water around here is drinking water( electric only), . But they are all pretty big reservoirs for an electric. I kill the one battery getting a mile out to the rocks so it will save me some time, my outboard battery is also a big deep cycle. Plus something happened to that lake, it was a trophy bass lake and very good. now just millions of 3 inch minnows. We had a bad drought awhile back and it was turned into a 2 foot puddle. Once I get 20 gallons of gas out of it, it should do better I'm going to head south to VA and AL this year. Guntersville near Huntsville is massive with ramps every 1/2 mile. Thanks

Good spots on upper Potomac?
Hi I was wondering if anyone is catching anything in the upper Potomac? Been to Slackwater, it was dead dead dead.... only one small patch of grass, no minnows to speak of that I saw.I went all the way to I-81 I'm thinking of going to Seneca, but it's always a question of how bad the ramp is and if you can get under the aqueduct for the canal. If anyone knows of ramps on the lower Potomac please let me know. Been looking for a long time. only know of one near National or Regan Airport ( which I'll never go to, cities freak me out ) Thanks

Bunk Board Lubricant
I got a spray off of Amazon that A-jay sent me. I have a reservoir nearby that's usually empty during the week. I'll try it out. Yes my trailer was completely submerged, so much so I had to push the boat sideways over a bunk board, still no help ( I have a blown out disk, had a back belt on tight, still paying for that dumb move). The entire setup is old but been in the garage so it needs a little work. New tires, batteries, gas stuff like that. Slowly working the gas out and into my truck 5 gallons at a time. I won't ever fill that tank up again, 27 gallons is to much for that motor. My neighbor gave me a good hint when I can't power load it. Run the bow winch out all the way to the end of trailer, drape it over then pick it up with the boat hook. There is a bass pro shop nearby, I'll have to check if they're open yet maybe I'll get some more ideas. Plus I like going there Thanks for all the replies, it's appreciated.

Old Motor Guide Piece of Junk?
Oh forgot... on way back I gave up. Sat in front seat with foot controller on my lap driving with hands and it was still a constant adjustment. also yes I played around with the trim, but didn't make a difference as long as the tail piece was in the water. this controller seems to take a lot of force to move it and it's almost impossible to do very small corrections. Please a Bow Mount 101 would be great

Old Motor Guide Piece of Junk?
Hi. I have a 2005 Motor guide bow mount, 45lbs of thrust. I HATE THIS THING 1) Broken down both times iv'e used it( it a long story) 2) this is the most annoying. You can't EVER LET YOUR FOOT OFF IT, NEVER. EVEN AT SETTING ONE, WITH EVERYTHING TIGHT IT WILL JERK TO LEFT OR RIGHT IN 2 SECONDS MAX. 3) IT SUCKS DOWN THE BIGEST BATTERY( AND NEW) THAT I CAN GET. Try switching the leads to the outboard battery in the middle of a windy lake. 4) MELTED, YES MELTED THE FUSE/CONNECTION YESTERDAY. 5 Lastly the "connection cable from motor to box is major pain. can't find a decent spot to mount it and the cable is not very forgiving I am new to bow mounts. My last boat was a 13 foot aluminum row boat from wards with a 4 hp Minn Kota 24V electric. That was great until I finally burned up the last switch they made ( I constantly got pulled over for having an outboard) I'm really looking for hints, instructions, what you can and can't expect, stuff like that. If there are other brands that are better and I don't have to concentrate on steering all the time it would be nice. That 4 hp rear mount was great, fast but also I could set it at a creep and it didn't turn on it's own. Now I have a 17 foot crestliner with at least 10 gallons of fuel, 50 HP mercury seats, empty live well ect. Man is it slow for doing any resevore fishing. I don't expect the same performance out of a 12 V with 17 foot of wire but it has become a major pain in my butt. Any input would help. I'm installing Farm knife switches on both batteries and might be able to run 4 10AWG wires to front( not sure yet about the wires) Thanks

Hello from Maryland
Hi. I've been a member for awhile but been out of fishing. Doing shakedown trips now but I would like to go some places east of Mississippi. I've found it's not always a good thing to try a river or lake out by yourself the hard way around. Thanks

Bunk Board Lubricant
Hi. I 've been a member but haven't fished in years. I finally got out and did some shakedown trips and one thing keeps coming up. My boat " glues" itself to the bunk boards when loading. I mean tight. Today I had to use a lug wrench as a lever on the winch to get it in. I've seen Youtube video on it but can seem to find that brand. Can anyone shed some help on this. It really is a killer for a 17 foot boat. Thanks

aquaduct at reilly's lock ( seneca & Potomac)
Thanks. I checked out edwards ferry as my neighbor goes there with his jet prop. It's way to shallow and i have no idea it the electric can handle the current. 25 years ago I would launch at seneca and go up to edwards, it only took 5-10 minutes. The channel on the VA side is deep enough. I would not go further than edwards. If there was anyway to know how high the river is before going it would help. I have the gauge readings from point of rocks but i can't match them to the green, yellow, or red on the ramps. Being a newbie I will not go out by myself unless it's green. Maybe yellow if there are others out. I'm going to try and just put in at seneca on a weekday and get a feel for the boat... it's been a long time since i delt with current.

aquaduct at reilly's lock ( seneca & Potomac)
I am new to this forum so please bear with me. About 25years ago I took out my 13' row boat with a 25hp at Seneca and went out on the Potomac. At that time I think the center and left arches or the canal aqueduct were passable and there was a huge rock on the left hand side. I blew up the outboard and have been fishing Black hills ever since. I have a new boat now a 17' crestliner with 50 hp merc and bow trolling. I have been down there three times to check it out and the center arch is blocked by a log jam. I was down there last Saturday and all I saw was a massive PWC club getting ready to go out. My question is "Can you get through the left side and hang a right to get away from the rock?" I need 18" of water to clear it. I don't think I can get under the aqueduct arch with the seats up. I might be able to use the trolling motor laying down on the deck, don't know yet. On another note I am trying to update my profile but to then. Location Frederick MD. Boat 17X6 bass boat. Rods, tackle = light to medium, surface and shallow diving. Fish: Bass, crappie, catfish, perch. Pretty much what ever is around in warm freshwater Thanks

Lake Linganore, New Market, MD
Don't waste your time on it. I live close and remember when linganore creek was damed up. For the most part the entire lake is silted in. Also it is private and they take it very seriously. There are much better places all around frederick from trout to bass to catfish. Blackhills park (seneca creek) is or was a trophy bass lake. That's excelent if you can get to the back end of it.

Fishing Spots: Washington DC, following up the Potomac
There is a coal fired power plant near Dickerson north of mouth of the monocacy. You get on the tow path head west and keep an eye out for trails going over to the river. The trail used to be marked by a hacked up tree 25 years ago. You will end up either at the discharge or a little below. We used to night catfish there and got 40 pounders all year long. You can see it on google. It's been a long time since i could make that hike. 2-3 miles depending where you get on the tow path. The current it deadly fast around there so you need a lot of weight

Hotels,parking and security
Thanks for all the info. I am an hour from the upper Potomac. There is only two place you can go with a prop. It's way to rocky for anything other than a jet prop. And i don't have that channel in the boat for one. I can also do the Chesapeake and lower potomac below DC. Boat ramps are very scarce and this boat can't handle the open water of the bay. There is one river at the Annapolis Navel Acadamy, No traffic 1 hour. Traffic 4 hours and the Navy cops are not very understanding. I will check out all the sites. I have a 25 amp linear charger and a 8 amp smart charger. BTW i am sure the merc has an alternator. Can that be parrelled with the deep cycle?

Hotels,parking and security
Hi. This is a bit embarrassing but i have a very nice Bass boat. unfortunatly i have not been able to use it very much where i live. To get to a lake that i can get out on and learn the boat and get comfortable with it i have to drive about 8 hours. There is a river close by but even the current from some damned up places are to fast to learn this boat. My previous boat was a13 ft row boat with a 4hp electric and fished on a electric only resivour). this is a 17 ft cresliner with a 50 hp merc. Anyway how do i find a place to stay that i can get the trailer in and keep it on the truck? Also is there any security things i should be aware of? Lastly, how do you handle recharging the deep cycle? I am really a babe in the woods here so any basic logistics on getting there and staying there for a few days would be greatly appreciated. Thank You-
