  1. Well, the Minn Kota 55 AutoPilot Motor I asked about got some less than complimentary comments. For $500-$600, I'd like to buy a motor that owners are happy with. Is there a trolling motor that you'd recommend for bass fishing? Thanks
  2. I'm looking at the Minn Kota 55 AutoPilot Motor with Weedless Wedge II Prop. The two reviews on Cabela's website are 5 stars, but even on sale: $569.88 is a chunk of change. Do any of you have opinions on this motor? Thanks.

  4. Would you pay the extra $25. for the Hummingbird 772c2 withQuadraBeam and a Transom Transducer over the Hummingbird 772c2 DualBeam with a Transom Transducer? Do you recommend another unit for the money? Cabela's ad states: "The Humminbird FishFinder 777c2 features the highest resolution displays with 640 vertical pixels. 5. Thanks, that was the information I was looking for. Here's a good reference for selecting a motor. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/content/community/product_features/buyers_guid e/pages/hardgoods/fishing/pf_ross_trolling_motor_guide.html
  6. I run 89 in my '76 Evinrude 85 HP. As suggested above, being an older motor I could probably run 93 octane and gain some performance. However, because I'm cheap, 89 is my compromise.
  7. For that price, what do you think of the Humminbird 777c2 Color Sonar on sale at $424.99 - $524.98? Cabela's ad states "highest resolution displays with 640 vertical pixels. Pro-grade performance with a sleek new design and Tilt & Swivel Quick-Release Mounting System or optional in-dash mounting. Ultra high-definition, 5", I checked with Cabela's and the resolution is 640 x 480. "Boasts 4,000-watt peak-to-peak power with 1500-ft. depth capability. 8. Thanks Bass_juncky. I'm interested in a color unit and have been considering the Eagle® FishMark 500c Series, Humminbird Fishfinder 585c Sonar, Lowrance X67c Color Fishfinder, Eagle FishEasy® 320c Sonar, Humminbird FishFinder 141c, Garmin® Color Fishfinder 400c, and Humminbird 747c Sonar. I am also concerned with the screen resolution. Each of these units has a resolution of 320V x 240H. I do like the bigger screens, but am looking for the most "fishable" unit and then the "best bang for my buck."
  9. Thanks Bassboy1 for the information. By the way, what is spl?
  10. I just bought a 16' 4" jon boat. The beam is 48" bottom and 70" at the top. The weight is 300 lb with a 40/50 HP Johnson outboard (I don't know the weight.) With two people and all the gear, I estimate the total fishing weight will be $900-$1000. I have not owned a jon boat before, but its configuration makes me think it is going to be subject to wind. So my question is what trolling motor would you buy for this boat? Thanks.
  11. Which sonar would you buy to $400? I have a GPS, so I don't need the combo unit unless the deal is to good to pass up. Thanks.
  12. I just bought a DuraCraft john boat with a 1995 Johnson 48 HP 2 stroke. Does anyone have information about this motor? Thanks.
  13. I bought a 1984 DuraCraft 16'4" jon boat with a 1995 Johnson 48 HP outboard today. There are no manuals, and the information labels are gone. Has anyone oned one of these boats? If so, can you tell me about it. It is about 70" wide. Thanks,
  14. I searched both Cabela's and BPS for a Gamakatsu Super Line hook (64 series) that I read about in an article about rigging a Fat Ika. I didn't find the hook on either site. Thanks
  15. I'm looking at the Powell "Max" Series rods. I have some Powell flyfishing rods and like them a lot. I talked to one of the pros on the BASS women's tour who uses the Powell "Max" series rods and likes them so far. I would like more input as while Powell has been in fly rods for 90 plus years, Powell is new to bass rods.
  16. I'd like one spinning rod for: 4" worms rigged on small jig heads light/small crankbaits drop-shot rigs small jigs & groups floating worms skipping soft plastics under docks etc. I'm considering a 7' medium action St Croix Avid and the 6' 6" All Star medium action with/extra fast tip. Opinions please. Are there other rods you like better?
  17. In one of last years Bass Times the results of a survey "Whats your fish finder bait?" The results were: Fish finder bait Crankbait 24 (35.8) Spinnerbait 19 (28.3) Texas rig 8 (11.9) Finess jig 6 (8.9) Carolina rig 4 (5.9) Drop shot 3 (4.4) Top water 3 (4.4) Guess I'd better practice with crankbaits.
  18. I ran searches on the forum and only came up with the following hooks. "Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hooks Regular 3/0 offset worm hook I exclusively 1/0 and 2/0 worm hooks with worms. 4/0 ewg owner hooks (or gammy, x point, anything decent) 2) i got quite a few 3/0 and 4/0 "gammy" hooks..both offset and worm 3/0 - 4/0 worm hooks" I wasn't able to come up with specifics in hook recomendations. I know that that there is no correct hook that works for every fisherman in each situation, but what hooks do you use for each type of plastic bait rigging. Texas rigs Carolina rigs Drop shots Shaky worms Finess worms Craws Lizards Creatures Tubes Flukes Floating worms Senkos
  19. I received some money and feel the bait monkey wispering in my ear. What Jerkbaits do you/would you like to have in your bass kit?
  20. I received some money and feel the bait monkey wispering in my ear. What Deep Diving Crankbaits do you/would you like to have in your bass kit?

  22. Cabela's has the Eagle® FishMark 500c Series Sonar on sale for $239.99. Can you give me any information about this unit? Thanks,
  23. I really like the renovation Fishbear is doing to his 1988 14ft., 44 in. wide Fisher,. I'm looking for a boat for bass fishing. I am considering a prota boat, but this Jon boat renovation looks like it might be a better deal. In the Jon boat world, what width makes for a stable 14' boat when you put in raised fishing platforms? Is their a brand of boat that makes for a better renovation? The pictures Fishbear posted are very helpful, but are their plans or books out their describing different possiblilites for these types of conversions?
  24. I'm thinking of buying a 12' port a boat. Does anyone on the list have any experience with them? If so, how do you like them. What are the pluses and minuses? What's the best size motor for the 12'? Thanks
