  1. I got a at Croix legend 6 ft mh casting rod form a flea market. It's an older one, I think the model number dates it to 95 or 96. The only thing wrong with it is the previous owner liked to use the for grip as a hook holder. It had a pennecol deadbolt baitcast reel on it. I gave $20 for the combo. I upgraded the reel to an Abu orra SX. It's one of my main combos now.
  2. I think somewhere along the years reel manufacturers decided that most people would rather have instant antireverse. When you have a switch the handle moves backwards at least a little before it engages. A one way roller bearing would be pretty difficult to turn off so you can back crank.
  3. As far as I know there I no list on the site they you can see. There are a few companies that we're not supposed to talk about. The admins have added the names of the companies and their rod/reel model to the bad word filter on the site so if you try to type them they will show up as ***** when you submit a post. I you get the astrix don't try alternative spelling or putting spaces between letters to get it past the filter.
  4. I got a used duckett micro magic rod today as part of a trade. I was trading for a different rod (one of those that can't be named) and a tatula reel. The duckett just sort of cane along with the package deal. Anyway it's a model df69mmcc 6'9" M/M casting rod. I'm not really a crankbait guy so I don't know if it's a good rod or not. I fished it for a little bit today and couldn't get a bite but it feels comfortable in the hand to me just a whole lot more whippy than any of my other rods. Just curious what anybody with experience with one of these thinks of it.
  5. I have a 14 foot semi v aluminum boat and trailer, I don't know it's exact weight but I'm sure it's under that. I can lift the tongue easly with one hand. I can grab it by a finder and lift the trailer with the boat still on with one hand and slide a jack stand under the axle. So it can't be more than a few hundred pounds total. I drag it with a pontic aztek. Launching a boat will be difficult with that car because the distance between the hitch and rear tires is so short. Your tires will be in the water well before the trailer is deep enough in the water to float the boat off. If I go to a shallow ramp with my Aztek I have to roll the boat off the trailer and hand launch it. It's not too bad to do even by myself but easier if you have a helper.
  6. You say your casting side arm (I assume you're casting right handed) and it goes to the left. A few things to look out for are rod not loading correctly, lure to light, tension too tight, and release point to late. Keep practicing you'll figure it out.
  7. Thanks for your reply Capt.Bob. I did get it back together I think my biggest problem was rust in the threads of the axel. The castle nut would only go on so far then it would hit the rust and the axel would rotate with the nut. A good dose of penetrating oil and some work with a wire brush got the threads cleaned out. Then it all went together as expected. I'll be investing in a angled to for my grease gun so next time I'll just pump it full of grease threw the grease zerk rather than taking the whole thing apart.
  8. Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I don't see a trailer forum so boats are the closest I could find. Anyway I was going to pack the bearings on my new to me trailer this afternoon. This is something that I'm very familiar with on a trailer with bolt on wheels. But my trailer has the hubs and bearings built into the wheels. I'm not sure how to go about setting the bearing preload. I'll attach some photos do you guys can see what I've got. I assume I need to set the preload with the larger inside nuts then attach it to the axle with the castle nuts on the outside. The problem is that when I try it like that the whole spindle rotates with the castle nut and I can't get the nut tight. Any help is appreciated
  9. Have you looked for a trailer on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace? Here in central Indiana small trailers go pretty regularly for a few hundred dollars but you have to check often because they tend to sell quickly. I recently bought 14 foot aluminum row boat and trailer for $150. I had to repair the lights on the trailer and will be putting tires on it soon but those aren't terribly expensive repairs.
  10. Warranty is also a pretty big factor in the high end stuff. Your not only buying a rod your buying an insurance policy of sorts. They have to charge enough up front so they can afford to repair or replace it when you break it.
  11. I fished Missessenawa at red bridge this morning in my row boat couldn't get any bass to bite so I picked up my crappie rod and got a few nice crappie and one drink largemouth on an Arkie sexy tail shad.
  12. The plug does look a lot like a 3/4 pipe plug. I haven't tried to screw a pipe plug into the hole but I imagine it would go right in. It doesn't look like somebody just made it work because the lost the original it looks like it's original to the boat to me. It will screw in by hand if I put it in without any sealer but it leaks a bit. If I put thread tape on the threads I need to use a wrench to install and remove it. The boat sits on a trailer outside without a cover so I just remove the plug and to the nose up to let any rain drain out. Attached are a couple pictures of what it looks like. Top pic is inside of boat bottom is under side of boat
  13. I recently picked up a 14 foot Jon boat and trailer really cheap and have been out in it a few times. My issue is that the plug threads in so I need to always have a wrench and thread sealer with me to install the plug. Does anybody know of a plug that will seal in a threaded hole without using sealer and a wrench to remove and install it? Thanks Tyler
  14. You should be ok just make sure you use a landing net. Don't try to lift a big carp out of the water with the rod.
  15. Fair enough, I thought you just wanted to a measurement. Good luck
  16. I know it's not sportsman like and illegal in public water but if it's in your back yard why not throw a cast net at him?
  17. I have an eagle claw/ W&M Brent Chapman combo that retails for $60 for the rod and reel. The tension knob does click. It's far from a high end reel just an example of a cheep usable reel with a clicker. I also have a BPS extream from a few years ago it's discontinued now but I think it retailed for around 60. I think I gave about 40 for it on clearance.
  18. All casting St Croix legend 6' mh it's an old one from the mid 90s that I picked up at a flea market for $10. It's paired with an Abu orra SX A brand that can't be mentioned here 7' MH/XF paired with a BPS extream Quantum team KVD 6' MH/F with an energy PT Old diawa 5'6" ml pistol grip with an h2o mettle. This is my panfish rod and is usually rigged with a slip bobber. An old 5'6 Remington rod unmarked power and taper with an h2o mettle this one lives in my car because it's short enough to not take up much space and seems to load well with everything from Ned rigs to Texas rigs
  19. My youngest son and I got Wildcat Creek outside of Greentown yesterday to test my new to me Jon boat for leaks after I had a crack welded. The good news is we kept the water out out the boat. Bad news is we also kept most of the fish out of the boat. Not a single hit on bass we got a few small bluegill and he got a decent channel cat on a worm under an bobber. All in all a good day for fishing and a bad day for catching.
  20. If anybody in the Kokomo area is in need of a budget casting rod Ollie's bargain outlet had a few Berkeley lightnings. I just grabbed one for $9.99. They still had a few more when I left. It's the black one not the shock. 6.0 ft mh. It feels really good to me for 10 bucks.
  21. Thanks, I'm going to go look at it in a few hours. I'll look it over for the HIN. In all honesty the trailer is sitting on is probably worth his asking price both the boat and trailer. So I'll probably get it even if I have to scrap the hull.
  22. Hi guys, is been a while since I posted on here but I have as question that I figure you local guys could answer. I'm going to go look at a 14 foot Jon boat tomorrow. She looks pretty rough but it's cheap enough and I think with a little elbow grease I can make a decent little boat of it. Anyway the seller does have a title for the trailer but the boat will only come with a bill of sale. Is it a big deal to get a title for a job boat. I have a pontoon boat that I have been trying to get a title for a few years and can't ever get all the right paper work to prove it's mine. I don't want this to be a similar deal. Thanks Tyler
  23. Thanks for the heads up.
  24. Thank you very much. I looks like I can drop in Missessenawa down steam of the dam but if I want to go into the lake I'll need a sticker. For $5 I'll probably go ahead and get a sticker to keep my options open.
  25. I'm considering getting a kayak or a canoe to float some of the local Rivers and Creeks around here (Wabash, Missessenawa, and Wildcat Creek). I can't figure out from the DNR site what the laws are as far as a launch permit or any stickers needed so I figured I will ask here since I know some of you guys use kayaks. Thanks Tyler
