  1. I have a 60hp 4 stroke merc on my PT175. It is a 2006 and it is alarmingly quiet. I don't know if they have gotten any quieter, if they have you may not even be able to tell it is on.
  2. I would not hesitate to own a new Merc. Pretty much all the big boys are making good 4-strokes these days.
  3. If you are going to upgrade the motor, pay the extra couple grand and get the PT 175. It come with a 60hp standard fishes MUCH bigger than the 170. It is 11" longer and 12" wider. Plus it has the all powder coated hull, which is pretty slick looking.
  4. Wow. I don't think I am ready to fish it...maybe the next one. It may be a good chance to go out there and see where the locals concentrate.
  5. Yesterday I noticed my outboard still "peeing" for a bit after being turned off. Is that normal?
  6. Possibly, but your screen name makes me think you are a Gator, and I lived in Tallahassee for about 25 years with season tickets to FSU...so...
  7. Wow. I did not know anything about that lake. It is only ~80 miles from home. I may go check it out this weekend.
  8. Thanks. I was just going to start looking for some Rod Gloves. I have reel covers but switch rods a lot and don't put them until they go back in the rod locker. I have a butt seat, I can't get comfortable on it. I am thinking about trying a different one. Also, I never even took out foot pedal for the trolling motor. I used the remote, the anchor and heading hold pretty much just leaves the pedal in the way.
  9. Went out to Herb Parson's for the first time this afternoon. I made it out there for about four hours. This being my first time putting the boat in, I spent as much time trying to learn the tech as fishing. The boat and everything about it performed flawlessly. This boat is a total game changer for me. Ended up catching two at close to dark on a Rage rigged craw. One dink and one pretty nice fish.

  11. I picked up my boat on Friday... I am going to go putt around Herb Parsons tomorrow. I am not married and my mom is in Florida, so I am hoping Mother's Day will have the lake deserted. It will give me a good chance to familiarize myself with the boat close to home. I have some serious learning to do with all the electronics...I am interested to play with the Xi5 trolling motor. The anchor and heading hold functions are supposed to be very cool. I know it can be controlled by the helm Lowrance. Maybe I will get lucky and the bite will be on.
  12. Today was a good day. A few weeks ago I saw forum member post that he had ordered a new boat. I noticed the boat in his sig was about what I was looking for. I shot him a PM and asked him if he planned on selling it. He said he was and we began discussions. I was very pleased to hear the boat only had 75hrs on it. Me being in Memphis, and him being in Oklahoma I wanted to be fairly certain about the purchase before arranging an exchange. He gladly sent me multiple videos and pictures going over the boat. He was very helpful, answered all my questions, represented the boat honestly, and negotiated a fair price with me. I told him I wanted the boat, was going to list my GTO for sale, and hopefully be able to pick it up in a few weeks. Luckily my car sold in 24hrs and we began making plans for the transaction. Thankfully he offered to meet me about half way (~ 3 hours) between our homes at a piece of water off the Arkansas River he was familiar with so we could water test the boat and make the exchange. Today was a beautiful day in Arkansas. We timed our arrivals just about right, he said he arrived about 5 minutes before I did. After walking me around the boat and going over everything, we launched the boat and took her out. As expected the boat ran great and all the equipment functioned as it should have. The Xi5 trolling motor and the Touch 7 working together is very very cool. I have SO much to learn about these pieces of equipment. After exchanging paperwork and money, I gladly shook hiss hand and headed back to Memphis with my new toy in tow. He had two new tires put on earlier this week for me and the boat towed great behind my V6 explorer...hardly even knew it was there. I am pretty stoked about how everything went, and very thankful I was able to find a good boat, owned by a good owner. Thanks again Scot, I'm sorry that you will be boatless for a few weeks, but I am glad I could take her off your hands. Here is the mandatory purchase day picture. Just a quick one because she is pretty dirty from the long trip. I plan on washing her tomorrow and taking a few more... 2006 Pro Team 175 TX 2006 Merc 60hp 4-stroke Motorguide 80# Xi5 Lowrance HDS 7 Touch G2 Lowrance Elite 7 HDI Mercmonitor
  13. Nice boat man! I have looked at alot of boats...a few Tritons, a couple Crestviews, a Lowe, etc. The Triton's are a very solid boat. I really feel like the Trackers with the Revolution All-welded hulls are good boats for the most parts. I am sure I will be jealous of that 115 though.
  14. I was Curious about Arkabutla and Sardis. Have you fished either? They are both around an hour from me.
  15. I drove out to Herb Parsons today. I talked to one guy who had been out there for 6 hours and had caught one...ouch. Said it has been rough out there. I was a little disappointed the whole lake is no wake. I was hoping for somewhere close by that I could actually run the boat a bit. Is there any non wake restricted places around?
  16. I am definitely not paying under market value...NADA for a '06 Tracker Pro Team 175 with trailer and motor is ~$5k. I am seen well equipped ones go for close to $10k. I am paying somewhere in between.
  17. Not exactly...more like sell me the boat for the market price, and sell me the thousands of dollars worth of high end electronics on it separately. Are you sure that is the law in Tennessee? I am fairly certain that in Florida, where I am from, you only pay tax on the hull.
  18. Is it common/acceptable to ask the seller of a used boat to record a sale price lower than it actually is? I am planning on buying a boat in a few days, it looks like the tax I will need to pay when registering is pretty hefty. I know not to write in a ridiculously low price, but I am paying well above NADA, which appears to be less than market value. Even if the book value was used, it would be helpful. Also, do you pay tax on only the hull, or the whole package? We could do separate bill of sales.
  19. Thanks. I am pretty excited. Friday, I am meeting the seller at a lake in Arkansas halfway between where we live...about 3hrs each. If it appears and performs as described I will be pulling it home to Tennessee. Does anyone know what the tax rate is for boats in Tennessee?
  20. Thanks. I went ahead and did that. $12 for 12 issues is very reasonable.
  21. So...bringing this back up again. I am hoping to really get some insight into Memphis area "Gas lakes"? There is so much good information in the "Memphis Area Pond Hoppers" thread. Being new to the area, it has really been helpful to me. I would love to start collecting information, tips, and news about some of the area's larger lakes. I am guessing that Herb Parsons is going to be the closest place place I could run a 60hp gas 17' boat safely? I am sure I am going to be wanting to get this thing wet as much as possible in the beginning, even if it is not on the best piece of water to fish. I would like to find places to fish that I could knock off work reasonably early and leave my house at 2:00 and squeeze in a few hours. I guess Poplar Tree would be my other option? I am sure I will be making my way to Pickwick one of these weekends. I am also trying to work out meeting my buddy at one of the "big" lakes in Alabama, maybe Guntersville one of these weekends. This will be my first time venturing into all these lakes and would love to learn as much as possible about all of them before jumping out there. Things like areas of the lakes to concentrate on, navigational hazards to be concerned with, what boat ramps to use? I will probably be going out to Herb Parsons first...maybe Saturday, so any information on it would be awesome.
  22. Welp, the GTO is gone as of an hour ago... I have a line on a nice 2006 Pro Team 175 TX with a Merc 60hp 4 stroke. The boat only has 75 hours on it and come with a HDS 7 Touch HDI at the console, a Elite 7 at the bow, Mercmonitor, and a Motorguide 80# Xi5.
  23. 550!?!? That is awesome...dude obviously enjoyed his boat. If it is priced right and well maintained, it may be a good deal.
  24. I started shopping in the same price range recently, but I do not feel the need to have anything overly fast. Personally I found a 2006 Tracker 175TX that I am hoping to pick up in a few weeks. I would think you would be happy with 17'-19' tin boat...something like a Triton VT 17, Tracker Pro Team 175, Crestliner VT 17, etc.
