Rod question! HELP
Hey Guys, I found a barely used IMX 853S PRO for $200 (retail is $325). The only thing that concerns me is the lure rating. For a MH XF rods the max lure rating is 7/16? Anyone have one of these models. Even if you don't have this rod curious what you think of the lure rating. Will be using the rod for light jigs and weightless senkos/fluke. 1/8 - 7/16 Med-Heavy Ex-Fast

How to grow confidence and find your best techniques
Best advise I can give is trial and error. Still really early in the season for upstate NY. Early season bass will be staging close to spawn areas. Can catch bass a number of different ways this time of year. One key trick is to work the bait very slow. When I hit the water with my kayak I take two or three rods already rigged with what I am going to throw based on the weather, time of day, and water clarity.

G loomis rods.
I bought two E6X one bass rod (6'6 M Fast) and one inshore (7 M Mod-fast). I returned both. The 6'6 felt like a decent bass rod but not for the $180 price tag. I returned and got the same profile rod but in St. Croix for about $60 bucks cheaper. The inshore e6x I returned and got the 13fishng green inshore rod. Still waiting on this one to come in the mail but I read very good things about them.

Some Susquehanna Smallies
Hey Guys, planning on taking a trip to Susquehanna this summer. I will be fishing out of a kayak. The closest spot to me is in Wilkes-Berre. Is it worth fishing there or should I try farther north? Any other tips would be great!

catfish combos?
I use my striper rod for catfish. Works great... cast a mile and has no problem horsing 25-40 pound fish. The rod is a 8 foot Tica and the reel is a Shimano baitrunner 6000oc.

G.Loomis GL2?
One of the models is the one you have GL2 853S JWR. Since it is MH and X fast action was thinking this one would be a bit much. Might have to consider it after your comments.

G.Loomis GL2?
Hey Everyone, Looking for input on the G.loomis GL2 spinning rod. I know this is one of their cheaper models. Not sure if they still produce this one. I found a guy selling a few slightly used GL2's for pretty cheap (apparently only fished a few times and pretty much brand new). The pictures look really clean. My question is overall what is your opinion on the rod its self? Would this be an upgrade to the St. Croix Mojo bass SC11?

2017 Goals
My goal this year is to enjoy life and fish as much as possible.

Topwater Rod ?
Personally I would say 6-7 ft. It all depends on personally preference.

New River Smallies
You can catch smallies in very cold water. I personally don't try to fish for them until the water is above 40 degrees. Here in PA we are experiencing random warm weather the past couple of weeks (not complaining). Water temps on a local river were about 41 degrees. I got this little guy and missed a handful of others. When the water temps are in the 40s I try to fish as slow as possible. I typically will pause a jerkbait or jig for about 30 seconds before twitching it again.

porized glasses
Can't go wrong with costa del mar. A little out of your price range but you can customize frames and lenses. I have two pair. One with blue mirror lense which I use in open water and down the shore. I also have the green mirror which is great in shallow water.

Rusty Fish hooks
I usually will get out the pliers and break the hooks up. Putting them in a bottle or container is good way to get rid of them.
-
shaky head worms.
On a shaky head I prefer to throw zoom products. Mostly 6.5 trick worm (usually pumpkin chartreuse). In shallow water I throw weightless Gary Y senko. If you are fishing for small mouth I would suggest a twister tail/tail grub on a shaky head.

Best rod between $100-$120
I would go with St.Croix mojo bass or TFO signature series. Personally I think TFO is pretty underrated. They are priced well and are great quality.

Great American Outdoor Show
If you want to go window shop it is pretty cool. You can go test out a lot new fishing equipment. A few vendors with lures but not really any good deals. The main even is hunting heavy for sure.

what baits/lures for new guy?
Can't go wrong with a pearl white fluke Texas rigged. You can fish it a number of ways, but I prefer to fish it about 1-2 feet from the surface. Most species can't resist the presentation.

New yaker please help
If you are looking to paddle distance and cover a lot of water I would consider the wilderness systems tarpon series. I have the 100 and can easily stand up in it (I weight 145lb). The kayak is light in the water - quick and agile. My buddy has a Jackson Cuda and has a hard time keeping up most days.

Which rods to invest in?
I would go with St. Croix. I love them, for the price range you cant go wrong. I would look into the Mojo bass. There are a lot of different models and each model specifics what kind of fishing that rod was made for (spinner baits, crank baits, jigging) you name it they have a model for it. This would defiantly come in handy when tournament fishing.
