Pre - Spawn : Your Favorite Lure Plans This Year ?

Featured Replies

As the title suggests whether a new lure you want to try - or an old favorite you will use again ... What pre-spawn lures will YOU be throwing this year ?

*Here in the S.E. due to such a mild Winter we are about 3 weeks ahead of what a "normal" pre-spawn period should be , so bass will be staging to come shallow any day now !

Jerkbaits and spinnerbaits are what I usually fish the most during prespawn, although a football jig caught me the largest bass I've caught in a few years 2 weeks ago.

With pre-spawn comes huge numbers of both quantity & quality but it also means pretty much any technique will produce.

Carolina Rig is what's hot right now!

X-rap , and swim jig with a paddle tail or kalins grub

Suspending jerkbaits, jigs, Rattletrap's, ned rig, chatterbait or swim jig, trick worm, and in the late prespawn either a frog, spook, or popper.  Recently in the very early prespawn/late winter I've been doing well with the vision 110, baby boo jig, and ned rig.

A drop shot rig. Another rod set up with a hard jerkbait (i.e.: X-Rap) and a third rod set up with a 1/2 - 3/4 oz. blade bait. That'll due to "ride the river", as the ole' Texas Ranger use to say. ;)

Spinnerbait, jig rig with a crawish flappy type plastic, and a drop shot. I can't think of one pre-spawn fish over 5lbs that I've ever caught that wasn't on one of those three.

Jerkbait and a Chatterbait

Spinnerbaits, lipless cranks, and paddletail swimbaits tend to be my pre-spawn workhorses. I'll also have a senko and a jig tied on and ready to go at all times.

chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs and flat cranks.

I have four 'favorites' and one I'll be trying for the first time this spring (soft plastic swimbait). Which I choose is dependent on whether or not the fish have started moving up, or are still waiting.

Spinnerbaits, Swim Jigs, Jigs, Swimbaits, Lipless Cranks, Flukes, Jerkbaits, Chatterbait will be what I look to when I first hit the water.

Depends on the lake in Maine. Small bodies of water that have grass I will throw a Strike King 1.5 shallow and a double colorado spinnerbait. The deeper clearer lakes I will throw a jerkbait, a drop shot, and a jig. I am about a week away from being able to launch a small boat to fish. CANT WAIT

Pre-spawn? Spinner baits, square bills, traps, basically moving baits, if I can get away with them.
