Baitmaker

It's been a while since I posted any new stuff, but I'm still making baits when time allows. Here is my latest swimbait and a first for me using poplar wood. It's a 7" foiled golden shiner that has a slow/medium sink rate.

Here is a new 6" hardwood swimbait painted to resemble the rare and elusive firetiger crappie shad😁

Thank you!!! I couldn't reel and hold the phone at the same time so was just pulling it around with the rod tip too high to swim it right, but I am happy with the action.

Here is a new glide bait that I recently finished and painted in a bluegill pattern. It is made from Cherry and has a slow suspending sink rate. I got this quick video of it in a pool but was holding the phone with my left hand and dragging the bait around with my right, so I couldn't work it very well. 🙂

Here are a couple of my latest cedar swimbaits. These ones are 6 and 7 inches long. I've been painting all of them in different color schemes so no 2 are the same.

Thank you for the nice comment. For the spots on that bait, I used a plastic stencil that was made with a Cricut machine. The top coat product that I use is True Coat epoxy. It requires a drying wheel to slowly turn the baits due to it's long cure time.

Not sure what this is supposed to be. 🤔 I originally intended on painting it in a firetiger pattern, but ended up doing spots similar to a crappie for something different.

A couple of jointed baits I recently made from red cedar.

It looks interesting, and there's only one way to find out.? Either way, you're bound to learn from it. Just try to make sure that the weight is dead center, as well as the line tie and hook hangers. It's fun to tweak your own designs into a functional bait, but it can take time. I'm always sketching and designing new stuff I haven't made before. Some of them never get off the launching pad, and others do well enough on the first attempt to keep playing with. Here is one of my sketches that I'm working on now. It's a 3 piece jointed Muskie with fins and tail. It will be interesting to see how the prototype swims and getting the weighting figured out. All I know is that the finished product looks really cool in my head which is a great way to start.

Still making my wood crankbaits when time allows. Really like seeing everyone's work! Most of my recent ones are built for Muskie, although I know guys that throw the big baits for bass also. Here are some of my latest red cedar offerings to the fishing Gods. ?

Some of my latest work in red cedar. I've been building some larger ones for Muskie lately, but will get back to more bass and walleye baits soon. Here is a 3" diver done in hot fluorescents and pearl paints, and a 10" Muskie bait painted in a Saugeye pattern.
