  1. I need some advice. Tomorrow morning I'll be fishing a honey hole. It's an old gravel pit, aproximately 25ft deep at the dock where I'll be fishing from. It's essentially a deep, clear 90 degree ledge. I mean crystal clear. Most days I can see 15ft+, but it's not uncommon to see the bottom. I've caught lots of 3lb fish here in the prespawn, but have never done any winter fishing. I'm in Indiana & the high is supposed to be 58 degrees. It's been in the upper 40s to mid 50s for a few days now. With these conditions, what should I be throwing? Thanks!
  2. Thank you SO much for all of your responses! This is exactly what I was hoping for, I really appreciate it
  3. Hello everyone! I am trying to simplify my bass fishing. I am trying to cover most of my baitcasting presentations with just 3 rods. I know some rods aren't the absolute best option for some presentations, but I think they'll be workable. My next issue to tackle is trying to figure out what line to put on which rod? I'd like to stick to 1 specific type & weight of line per rod. I realize for some presentations I won't have the best possible option, but again I'm willing to compromise a little bit in order to simplify things. I'd really appreciate any suggestions you have for what line to use! Setup #1 Rod: 7' M/M (St. Croix Premiere) Reel: 6.3:1 (Shimano Curado 200i) Line: ? -Lipless Crankbait -Squarebill Crankbait -Deep Diving Crankbait Setup #2 Rod: 6' 8" MH/F (St. Croix Premiere) Reel: 6.3:1 (Shimano Curado 200i) Line: ? -Texas Rig -Pitching Jig -Casting Jig -Spinnerbait -Chatterbait -Buzzbait -Hollow Body Frog Setup #3 Rod: 7' 11" H/MF (Okuma Guide Select) Reel: 6.2:1 (Shimano Curado 300E) Line: ? -Full Body Swimbaits
  4. Thanks for the review! I'm ordering one for this spring Question, was this the floating or alow sink model?
  5. Thanks for the suggestion! Cedar Lake definitely looks like it might be worth a weekend trip. About a 5hr drive. Do you have any suggestions/secrets I could borrow if I go in somewhere around mid April-mid May?
  6. I live in East Central IN where the LMB fishing is less than favorable. I'm hoping to take a trip with my father down to Kentucky sometime in May to find some better fishing. Last year we tried Cedar Creek Lake, but the water was drawn down so low that all of the spawning flats were above water, so we had no luck. Does anyone know of any small lakes in Kentucky that produce decent largemouth? (less than 500 acres preferably) The reason I'm looking for a small lake is because we fish entirely from kayaks. I really appreciate any suggestions!!
  7. Wow those are awesome looking lures...and heavy! Will I need a technique specific rod for the 2oz lure? That's pretty heavy. I have a 6' 9" MH/F Casting rod rated to 1oz :b
  8. I have access to a rare honey hole that seldom gets fished. It's an old stone quarry ranging from 20-60ft deep, is spring fed & is the clearest water I've ever seen. Alot of days I can see the bottom at 20ft. I've never caught a bass under 2lbs there, usually on green Pumpkin senkos, & there have been 2 10lb bass caught there that I know of. Someone suggested I try swimbaits to target larger bass, but I have no idea where to start. The fish mostly cruise the ledges....Any suggestions what lures I should be looking at?
  9. Anyone have advice for fishing Whitewater State Park (reservoir) in the morning? Probably 7a-11a. Fishing for largemouth
  10. Thanks, I'll def try your suggestions. I caught 3 dinks & 1 that was maybe 2lbs @ most yesterday on a weightless Texas-Rig junebug Senko. All were in 3-4ft of water, and within 15 feet of the bank.
  11. I'm curious how you guys might approach this. Small 180 acre reservoir, late spawn to post spawn. Males are still up shallow. Smaller bass (< 1lb) are feeding on surface insects. Warm water, very muddy. Less than 1ft visibility. Also, lots of submergent vegetation
  12. Thanks! I know where Glen Miller is. If we don't have any luck at Middlefork we'll try there. Thanks again
  13. @OddChase, I live in Winchester. My fiancé's 10 y/o brother wants me to take him fishing. Does middlefork have any decent bank fishing? He lives in Richmond so that would be ideal. I don't really care what kind of fish, I'm just trying to get him hooked into anything that swims.
  14. Thanks for the advice! Yeah the Medium/Moderate would be for crankbaits
  15. After reading several threads, I've decided to go with a Medium/Moderate baitcaster, a Medium-Heavy/Fast baitcaster, and a Medium/Fast spinning reel for a three rod setup. I was advised not to go cheap on the baitcasters, however I would like to spend less than $150 per setup ($450 for all 3 rods/reels). Has anyone used this particular rod, and is it a decent beginner rod/reel for spinnerbaits & jigs? 16. No problem! What part of the lake did you catch most of your fish? What on?
  17. If the water is very clear, and you have a bluebird sky, they will be difficult to catch. Downsize your lure, and use very natural colors. I regularly fish a stone quarry with 10-15ft visibility. They're definitely hard to catch, because they can clearly see the lure.
  18. Im going to try to get there Monday morning. You'll have to let me know how you do if you get there Friday
  19. No these were yesterday between 5-7pm. Also had a few Rock Bass. The LMB weren't extremely active, but also not in a negative mood. They were cruising between some submerged wood cover, and the dock. What kind of swimbait should I have thrown? It was difficult to get them to bite even the wacky rig. I live roughly 45mins from Summit. I like kayaking there, but you should try Westwood Run (15 mins from Summit). It has a good amount of 3-4lb bass, and it's the perfect size for kayaking.
  20. I'm finally having some degree of success. Private 10 acre stone quarry pond in Randolph county. This is considered a small bass for this honey hole, however it's my personal best. The water clarity is insane, between 10-15ft. Wacky rigged senko/Green Pumpkin Magic.
  21. I know...I think I like them better! I do alot of kayak fishing. Rivers + kayaks = new smallmouth fan
  22. I've never tried river fishing, or smallmouth fishing so I thought I'd give it a shot this morning...Not a big fish, but I was pleasantly surprised! Caught on a KVD 1.5 Squarebill Crankbait in Firetiger. White River, Randolph County Indiana.
  23. I searched, and couldn't find quite what I was looking for. If you had to choose 1 rod (spinning only) for Texas & Weightless Texas rigging senkos and craws, what action & power would it be? Thanks!
