  1. I have used the Zoom, actually I used the Zoom before the Yum and found that I liked the action of the Yum better. Turnover... I think they both turn over, but does that really affect the bite?? I have never heard of the Gambler frog, I will have to check that one out.
  2. welcome!
  3. Yeah whats a cold spell in Florida?
  4. 47 steps..... someday I would like to me that close.
  5. Well that isn't right.... haha! Do you notice a difference in the bite during your "Winter" months?
  6. When is the start of Bass fishing for everyone? I love to fish the pre-spawn, and find that to be the most exciting time. Usually 1st to 2nd week in April(Upstate NY) I use to fish some private water but my Aunt and Uncle sold there place this summer, there are times when we would boat about 50 to 60 fish a day there. Amazing fishing
  7. I think their hook quality has got alot better over the years.
  8. Just wondering if any of you use them and whats your take? What kind/size hook do you think is most affective? I was using a 3 mustad ultra pt wide, is there a better hook that doesn't tear up the bait as much? I was using 20# fireline, what line do you use/suggest? We used them alot this year and did great on them. I have to say my most exciting fish this year were taken on them. My biggest being a tad under 5# and ran about 22 inches (Late August fish).
  9. I have only read a little about them, so I dont know much. Sounds like many of you have had good luck on them.... who makes them? Im always looking for new tackle, need to fill up that new tackle bag the wife got me for christmas.
  10. You said something about someone catching a 5lber, what were they using? Might want to start there, im not going to beat the senko thing to death. I had alot of luck late fall with a white suspending crankbait (white because of the water color) but try to locate the warmer water or maybe a feeder creek with bait.
  11. Nice fish though! My first love is bass fishing but I got into salmon and trout about 3 years ago, I needed something to tie me over until bass season opened up. I met my buddy at work and he was showing me pictures of the fish he was catch in the winter months so I gave it a go and liked it. Something special when you hook into a fresh steelhead, they are like hooking into a lightening bolt.
  12. ooops sorry about the double post!
  13. 2 out of 4 isn't bad, here are the rest...
  14. here are some steelhead my friend... Hopefully i got this posting pictures thing right!
  15. Leave the spawing fish alone, your not going to benifit yourself either way and the shock on the fish will probably kill it. How old is the pond? How long ago was it stocked?
  16. I do the gift card thing, that way I can pick out the right stuff. I also sent a link to my wife to buy me the stalker tackle bag from bass pro. Tackle bag and you can use it like a back pack too. I have gone through 2 tackle bags in 2 years, cheap ones from walmart. So figured it was time to get a nice one.
  17. Never done it, but was think about it. Might want to look into a local class you can take. They have a local fly show near me there the guy does classes. I think you buy the blank and he helps/teaches you how to build it.
  18. Rapala always coming out with new bait.... I swear they are going to make me go bankrupt
  19. I currently own a rather large tank and have housed a bass in it for sometime. Now to bring up the point that someone made that its not a natural environment, I think thats the key. Once the bass adapted to tank life it didn't matter what I put in there, he ate it. I could drop a chunk of chicken in there and he would eat it. I think if you toss a live or fake craw in front of a bass he is going to eat it, no matter what size. They are not going to pass up the chance of a quick meal. I have a rod that I keep a Yum Craw bug tied on and it doesn't ever come off. Thats my go to bait! If I can see a bass, 9.5 times out of 10 he wont pass on it.
  20. well im absolutly jealous of you! I have see show on tv of guys fishing topwater for peacocks and I was glue to the tv. I couldn't get over the way those fish hit, like a freaking freight train. Of my dream trips that ranks right up there with a trip to Alaska for Salmon and Steelhead but 16G thats big time money! I can only dream of a trip like that, but hey you never know. What if you cook your own food could they knock off about 8G?!? Thanks for shareing the story and pics, that had to be an amazing experience! Going to get a mount of your big one?
  21. I fish lake ontario a lot, mostly For Salmon and Trout. The Lake turns over many times, mostly when we get rough water or a noticeable shift in weather conditions.
  22. Let me guess... this rock turned into your alarm clock and you realized you were beating the crap out of your poor dog, who was sleeping next to your bed. Im with everyone else on this one, BS!..... But I have managed to catch a pager float fishing a creek for Browns/Steelhead. Last time out we were casting cranks for bass, when whack my drag tears out for about 15ft and then lets go. Im thinking I just lost the bass of a life time, until my buddy hooks into about a 15lb salmon, it runs across the top of the water and lets go. Now cranking for bass on a 7" med rod and a 15lb salmon slams your crank is something you dont expect at all!
  23. I haven't bass fished in almost a month now, but we finished strong with a crank. We found this little fall bass fishing heaven this year. Im from upstate NY we were fishing a "pond" or "cove" off a creek, which was off a bay in Lake Ontario. The water was warmer and on the dirty side, but thats where all the bait was. We threw the same crank, Saturday and Sunday and in the 2 days we boated about 60 fish. We were catching fish back to back to back, a few doubles, we had a great time. The following Saturday we managed about 25 fish in 2 hrs. So my advise is to find a creek with warmer water and holding bait, thats where you will find your bass. Try to match the bait, mix up your retreve you will find what they like.
  24. I haven't really dropshoted at all. My guess if your coming up empty is that something small is taking your bait off the hook. Again, Im not experienced enough to give you a definite answer, but try making sure you have taught line when you set the hook.
