  1. I've been using opposing nail knots for the last few months and have been VERY pleased with that knot. I haven't had a single failure. Its definetely a tough one to tie, probably took me a couple weeks to get to where I could consistantly tie it without problems but it was worth learning.
  2. MoBass fisherman, Is that 2 double digits on the black/blue jig? Just want to make sure the numbers are right in the end.
  3. I think this will be a really neat experiment... what have you personally, actually, landed double digits on? Doesn't matter what your brother, father, friend, cousin, etc... caught one on, what have YOU done? Also, include the numbers of fish on each. This isn't about how many you've caught so people respect you, I want to get a final tally of total bass caught on each type of bait at the end. We'll tally in say, 3 days. Also, if you can include how long (in years) you've been using each of those baits, maybe we can get a rough connection between how long a bait was used (in years) as compared to how many its caught for each of us. Mine came on: 8" swimbaits (23 fish) 6 years 6" swimbaits (1 fish) 5 years black/brown chatterbait (1 fish) 1 year brown/orange jig (1 fish) 16 years Sweet Beaver in Big Texan (1 fish) 3 years Handpoured 4" watermelon Creature (1 fish) 1 year If you haven't landed a double digit that's ok, list your biggest bass and what bait but please specify that it wasn't a double digit so it doesn't get counted in the final tally.
  4. I guess my post came across wrong. In fact, I wrote it right after waking up and when I just when back and read it it was pretty rude. What I was getting at is this post is about what will up your odds of getting a big one. I would imagine that at one time or another every bait on the market has caught a big bass for somebody so potentially 3" senkos, crappie jigs, and everything else could be on the list. What I was trying to say is that if you took every double digit caught by every guy on this board there are going to be some crazy baits that have worked but for the most part you're going to see some distinct patterns such as large creature baits, jigs, swimbaits, and 10-16" worms. These are the baits that will truly provide the best ODDS though just about anything out there CAN work at one time or another. Sorry I came across so rude before. I'd just climbed out of bed and clearly didn't think through how I was presenting my message.
  5. When I see these posts I always wonder how many of the baits have actually produced DD's for the people posting or if its just what they THINK will get them a big bite. I suspect if we didn't include the later the lists would all be shorter and we'd see a lot more repeat baits. As for me, I've not caught one on a 10" powerworm but I've netted enough doubles on it to know that it works. 1) Rainbow trout sinking swimbait 2) Brown/Orange or Brown/Purple Jig 3) 10" Powerworm (Black) 4) Chatterbait (Brown/black Bobby D's brand) 5) 3:16 wakebait or something similar
  6. Dan, My first Salter died on me too! Of course, that was after I found it at the bottom of my livewell and I really have no idea how long it had been down there! : Company said it would be cheaper to replace than repair so thats what I did.
  7. Kayl, I've got the medium size and no, I catch plenty of smaller bass. Don't worry about the bait being too big... those 1 and 2 lbers are a lot more aggressive than many people realize and at the right time they won't hesitate to swipe at baits that are even bigger than they are!
  8. Very cool bait! High hook up ratio and believe me, it looks so real in the water its going to creap you out! Its a fish catcher.
  9. I'm tired of seeing your lame pics! All I've got to say is: Lol, congrats on a nice trip with the girl, and good call letting her stick one or you'd have been in trouble! ** Note to mods: Fourbizzle is a friend (though we both often deny it) and the image is a joke, not a bash**
  10. That's true... but is sure is fun to try and use it as one!
  11. I would recommend NOT getting the 7" baits, instead get 9". That sounds odd but the 9" will catch small fish just like the 7" and the 7 won't catch the top end fish as often as the 9. Its pretty hard to wrap your mind around two pound fish eating a 9" bait but once you start throwing the bait you'll see it for yourself.
  12. That's alright Avid, its just a couple of dinks anyway. ROFL! Seriously though, not sure why you can't see them, they're still showing up for me on firefox.
  13. ROFL. ;D Well done. And nice fish too.
  14. What's that squeeking sound? Anybody else hear that?

...ebay IMO, the baits you're throwing Burley are going to get you bigger fish. I'd stick to that game plan unless you just have to have the latest and greatest. (a disease that I'm horribly plagued by)

Here is what I'm talking about with the exposed hook.
  17. Precisely! That's exactly how I do it as well
  18. Supermat replied to a post in a topic in Fishing Tackle
I leave the hook exposed. The javallon is pretty weedless because of a that depression it has. The only problem with the javallon is after using it for a while or catching a fish it starts to slide down the hook. This is a pain! Makes sense. As for the bait sliding down, I've heard a lot of complaints about that. A lot of my buddies have said the same thing, especially with spotted bass. They say one or two spots will ravage the bait beyond use. I would think that its nothing a hot knife wouldn't fix for you though. ...Continued success to you!

Good to know, I didn't think it would be that high. That wasn't a bash on you at all, I really wanted to know. I've had problems Weedless rigging other baits so with the Javallon I went straight to the exposed hook. 80 percent is a pretty good percentage. Once you T-rig are you skin hooking your hook or leaving it exposed but down in that depression?
  20. I'm with you Redline! I've had BPS take up to a month to get me a TINY order that was all in stock. Conversely, I had a package get to me from Japan in TWO DAYS!!! I still don't know how it got here so quick!

T-Rig, How is your hookup ratio as compared to rigging it with an exposed hook? In general, what percentage of bites do you not hook? Thanks!
  22. Braid comes in so many strength classes that its hardly not sporting. Plus, what many don't realize, is that rocks and often wood will cut braid like a knife in hot butter! Braid is VERY susceptible to being cut, that's why man will use a mono leader, to gain abrasion resistance on the rocky end. Also, I don't know about everyone else but I tend to use braid in places where it levels the playing field, where with mono my chance of getting that bass out is about 95% in the favor of the bass. With the braid I'm probably 50/50.

I rig mine with a standard leadhead, be it a ball head or some kind of a minnow head. Basically, cut the first 1/4" off the bait so you now have a flat surface to work with, then thread it on and leave the hook exposed on top. I've always considered the "weedless" approach to be foolish because in the end you miss so many more bites! Drives me crazy to miss big fish! If you really need the weedless application take a couple pieces of heavy mono and make a weedguard rather than burying your hook point. I've found this to work much better with that particular bait than using an EWG hook or something of that nature. Good luck avid, stick a toad!
  24. Grundens! One day I just got tired of being wet. I used to have really high end, breathable gear... you know, the 30,000 mm's of waterproofness stuff but over years of abuse through winter sports that too wore out. I just flat got tired of being wet and turned back to grundens. There is nothing more waterproof than heavy PVC coating, nothing! Its definetely not breathable but if you know how to balance your wicking layers underneath that really doesn't matter! Generally speaking, listen to these guys and you'll be better off. If your conditions are EXTREME, PVC is never going to leak.
