new rod choice
Both are great Rods. People complain about the E6X using Aluminum Oxide guide inserts but the Fuji a.o. guides are very durable and there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. But having said that, I agree that GLoomis should have at least upgraded to the Fuji Alconite on a $200 rod. The Avid X does have better guides than the E6X, but that doesn't mean the E6X is bad. I own the 7'4 heavy mod/fast rod and love love love it! I also own St Croix rods in the Mojo Bass line and love those as well, especially their Glass cranking rod. The Avid X is only about $10 more than the Loomis depending on which model you choose..could be more like $20. Another rod you might want to consider is the Powell Max 3D. Awesome line of rods (especially the Magnum series) and they are made with Fuji Alconite guides and are around $160 BUT the only draw back to them is the "made in China"..Must be why they are only $160 because they are every bit as good as the two mentioned. St Croix Avid and the E6X are both made in the USA.

cranking reel..Revo Winch, BB1 Pro or Tatula HD
Looking to get a solid cranking reel for a light/medium swimbait rod (1.5-3oz baits) and for a regular cranking rod for deep divers in a 5:x gear ratio. Im either going to get the Abu Revo Winch, Lews BB1 Pro or the Tatula HD The Revo Winch is designed for this and has a 100mm cranking handle and I like the big EVA knobs I own a Tatula Tactical that has the 100mm handle and I really like this reel but it only comes in a 7:3 All three reels can be found on ebay for some nice deals, especially the Tatula HD The Tatula HD doesn't come in a 5 gear ratio but in a 6:3:1. Id be ok with that if its going to be the best reel for the money ($120 on Ebay) Lew BB1 Pro: $155 Tatula 200 HD $120 Abu Garcia Revo Winch $147

which of these rods?
I wouldn't think there would be any difference in feel between the Avid and Avid X unless the guides make that big of a difference. The Avids and Mojos are built with the exact same blanks with the "IPC technology" but just have different guides. Im wondering if just sticking with the new Mojo Bass is the way to go for only $125 or if its worth it to step up and spend an extra $80 on the Avid just for the upgraded guides I was under the impression that the reel seats on the Avids and Mojos are the same Fuji seats...no?

Do you wear a "buff" when fishing? and let's see it if so.
I dont. I think they are the stupidest trend in fishing right now. I guarantee you that almost all guys who wear them only do it because they think it looks cool, not because of "skin protection" lol...ya right. Funny how these guys will be out in shorts and short sleeve shirts but have one of these dumb buff things wrapped around their face. If its hot and sunny, I just wear a long sleeve shirt and use a bandana around my neck that I will dip in wear to keep cool.

Rod recommendation for a newb
nice choice. Those new mojo bass rods are one of the best, if not the best rods you can get in the $120 area.

Best reel near 120 dollars
Wish I looked on the fleabay before I bought my Lews MB for full retail of $140. Its a great real. I don't know which real I like better, the Lews tour. MB or the Tatula. I love them both. My next Tatula will come from the auction site since I see them all the time new for $100

best 4" swimbait
yes Keitechs are great and they were my #1 unill I tried the Culprit Incredi Swim. Im sure a lot of guys will think Im crazy for saying that. But they have more action/wobble when swimming, are easier to rig (the keitech isn't hard to rig by any means just the culprit is easier because of the flat top and bottom) and are more durable. No it doesnt have the tail movement at the super slow speeds that the keitech does, but it still has good action at slow speeds. I use them both for swim jig trailers.

which of these rods?
I was wondering about the SClll blanks. I have the older mojo bass on the SCll blank and its a nice rod. The new Mojos are on the SClll blanks like the Avids but are only about $130. Wondering why they are so much less $..must be the guides? I don't like the Rage handles otherwise id be considering them. I like the cork split grip on the Mojos and Avid X but I am also a huge fan of solid cork handles and the gen 1 Avid has one of the most comfortable full cork handles Ive felt.

which of these rods?
This is my first post here, so be kind. Im sure these kinds of threads are always posted but I can't decide on which rod to get. My max budget Ill spend is $200. Im looking for a good heavy fast or heavy moderate/fast rod. These are my choices of what I can get my hands on and feel. I don't want to buy a rod sight unseen: GLoomis E6X, St Croix Avid original or the Avid X (I love the full cork handle on the gen 1 Avid but the new Kigan micro guides on the X are awesome) Powell Max 3D ( I like the 765MH, its rated at 3/8 to 3oz. I haven't seen a rating quite like that. Perfect for my range of swim jigs) Phenix M1 Ive handled all of those (in store only) and really like all of them. Im leaning towards ST Croix Avid. I already own a Mojo Bass M/F and the Mojo Bass Glass cranking rod which is amazing. The Powell looks and feels extremely nice, but its made in China while all the otherwise are made here in the US..dont really know if this is an issue. Maybe thats why its $160 and not $200 like the others. I picked up the Zodias but something about it I just don't like.
