Oakley Mainlink Prizm deep/shallow water sunglasses
There was a thread about polarized sunglasses that someone posted about these Oakley polarized sunglasses and Im interested in them. They have them on Amazon and Ebay for around $150 and Id like to grab a pair. I used to say Id never spend that kind of money on shades but Im tired of constantly buying cheap sunglasses. I spend $150-$200 no problem on a rod that I use maybe once a week if Im lucky, so why wouldn't I spend the same for something that Ill be using every single day. Anyhow Im wondering which ones would be better for me. I live in the desert in AZ so most all days are very bright/sunny. Im looking at the deep water and shallow water version of Oakleys. Which ones would be better for bright sunny days and peering into water? The lake I fish is very clear. On a calm no wind day, you can see about 30' down. But on the north end of the lake its stained water, maybe 1-2' visibility

Giant Largemouth Bass
you're right, you can catch big bass on little baits but Id say 99% of the bass caught on little baits like a typical roboworm or a 1-1.5 squarbill..etc are not going to be giants. Almost always the smaller faster fish attack the smaller baits. The big bass usually don't even give them a second look, but thats obviously not always the case. I used to only fish with small baits and never caught anything over 3 pounds at my local lake and I fished this way for years. The first day I tried large baits I finally caught a big bass and its still my personal best at 8Lb and it was on a 5" Savage 3D trout (not even all that big) Since then Ive consistently caught bass at and over the 5lb mark on big baits only..large swim jigs, big worms, swimbaits..etc I still finesse fish with roboworms and I still have not caught anything over 3Lb on them. So in my experience, yes big baits absolutely do better for consistently catching bigger bass. I also catch more bigger bass at night then I do during the day

Beat the heat!
I live in Phoenix.it was 115 couple days ago.there is absolutely nothing you can do to keep cool when its this hot other than stay inside in ac. it's night fishing season. I love night fishing. it's so calm and peaceful in the lake and there is hardly anyone there. plus I've come find out bass fishing its MUCH better at night..that's when the big ones come out to feed

Giant Largemouth Bass
big swimbaits, big jigs, big worms. The theme pretty much is just big baits for big bass. Id either be throwing a 12" curly tail worm around or any kind of swimbait that is a minimum of 6". A 6" or 8" huddleston or savage 3d swimbait is what id use...or a glide bait in the same size. id first just go get a bag of your favorite brand of worm in the largest size they have. I personally like the yamamoto 12" curly tail rigged weightless on a 5/0 off set round bend hook and reeled real slow. They arent any more durable than the senko so they are a one and done on a big bass but they just have a great action rigged that way...it must be a round bend hook and not an ewg in order to get the perfect wobble on a slow retrieve

Dobyns Savy vs Phenix M1
Phenix M1 Rods are great. Very good sensitivity, well built

Zman TRD's melting no matter what!
ya sorry. Im a newbie to this site as well as Zman elaztech baits. Now I feel kinda dumb after posting this and then seeing the sticky posted just for this subject.

Zman TRD's melting no matter what!
LOL guess I missed the fine print...oh well

Zman TRD's melting no matter what!
Whats the deal with these Zman baits melting so easy? I rigged up a few and was testing them in my pool to see how they look and I had 4 in a ziplock bag under the patio cover in the shade (they never came in direct sunlight) and in only 5 MINUTES they all begin to warp and melt in the shade. I then put some in an old small plastic plano style box with some Roboworms and they turned slimy, parlty melted INSIDE the AC house (these never even went outside) and they deformed every roboworm they came in contact with. What the heck is the deal with this stuff? Zman either needs to have a disclaimer on the bag at the ridiculous ease of these melting or state how to keep them from melting and ruining your other baits

Mojo Bass rods
They have one in medium light? Crap, that means Ill be buying another one! Ive been wanting a medium light for a finesse casting rod. Im very close to buying the Phenix M1 medium light but the Mojo is about $50 less

Best Rod for Under $100
agreed.Powell makes excellent rods. The Inferno is right up there at the top for a $100 rod. also the Phenix Maxim But under $100 I don't know. If I could pick up a Powell 3D Max on Ebay for under $100 Id be extremely stoked. Thats a $160 rod

Mojo Bass rods
I own a first gen Mojo Bass plastics model 7' medium fast and I really like this rod. Its nothing like you described, its actually the opposite. Yes its slightly on the heavy side (its not heavy at all, its just ever so slightly heavier than comparative rods), its sensitive, balanced and it fishes real well...But I will say the 2nd gen is much better with the SC3 blank which is the exact blank the Avid is which we all know the Avids are fantastic. Id be willing to say that the new Mojo Bass rods are the very best rod you can buy for $130 I also own a Mojo Bass Glass crankster rod and it is hands down my favorite crankbait rod Ive ever owned

Any Abu Garcia fans out there?
There are plenty of gear snobs in the fishing world and some of them will poo poo Abu Garcia, but don't listen to any of them. Abu makes great rods and reels. My first baitcaster was Abu's entry level reel, the black max. Ive beat the crap out of that thing and besides the thumb piece breaking from my son getting mad and throwing the rod, its still going strong.

Low-profile Reel for Swimbaits?
Abu Garcia Toro, Diawa Lexa 300 or the Tatula HD, Lews BB2 Pro, The Abu Toro is a big low profile real made for big baits. Same with the Daiwa Lexa 300. I use a Shimano Cardiff in the 300 size and I really like it. (I think the 400 size is way too big and bulky and just not needed for bass fishing) but I prefer the low profile reels. Ive thrown big baits on standard 100 size reels with no problems (Revos, Tatula, Lews tournament MB..etc) but I wouldn't use them for day in day out swimbait use as they will wear out quick. Im seriously looking at the discontinued Abu Garcia Revo Toro Winch or the current model of the Revo Toro. Both big low profile reels

Wanting to buy a rod for Carolina rig/Frog what should I buy?
$10 more ($160) and get the Powell 3D max. Probably the 764 rod. So many good rods out there in the $130-$160 price range, but that Powell 3D Max is phenomenal for the price. Or the Powell Inferno for $110 is still an excellent rod. Their utility rod would be great for Carolina rigs and a frog rod. Also St Croix Mojo Bass, Phenix M1 (a little over your budget at $175-ish but the Phenix Maxim is $110 and a great rod..comes with Sic guides which is unheard of in a $100 rod) Dobyns Fury...etc

Another reel question
just whatever feels best for you. I can't reel worth a crap left handed, it feels way too awkward and discombobulated to me. I hate spinning reels but in the rarity that I do use one I have to switch the handle to the right side. Me and spinning set ups don't mix
-
Paging Daiwa Guys
Wow, you're talking close to $4000 in reels for your casting rods. Must be nice to be able to spend money like that. If I spent even half that on some reels my wife would kick me out you must either be single or rich.....or both
-
Fishing rods for plastic worms
How about the St Croix Mojo Bass rod that is actually made just for plastics? (well it says "plastics" on it but it basically just a medium fast rod that is super versatile)
-
New Mojo 6'10" mlxf
good decision. St Croix' motto "best rods on earth" is pretty accurate
-
medium light casting rod
Ive decided to get the Phenix..either the Maxim or the M1. Ive been fishing an M1 Inshore model for swimbaits and heavy swimjigs and I can't put this rod down, I love it. Have you tried one of the Phenix Maxim rods? Im surprised at what you get for the price of the Maxim series. You don't see $100 rods that come with SiC guides very often

FG knot weakening
Or you could just use straight fluorocarbon and never have to worry about a leader knot breaking since you never have a leader to deal with in the first place

St criox avid cranking vs g loomis crankbait rod
Are you talking about the GLoomis E6X and the Avid X? Ive handled both of those rods/compared them in store and they are both extremely nice rods. But If I was to choose one I would go with the Avid X just because it has some awesome guides. Otherwise Id go with the E6X because I like full cork (but the original Avid has full cork if thats the one you're talking about) Both of them in medium moderate feel more like a medium/light action so be aware of this. They'd be great for smaller crankbaits like the 1.0 square bill size
-
medium light casting rod
I don't have any light action rods and would like to get one for roboworms and other finesse style fishing but only in a casting rod. I hate spinning reels. Ive been looking at the Phenix M1 in ML/fast and it feels like it would be just about perfect, I was also looking at the St Croix Avid X 7' medium/moderate crank bait rod and it also seems like it would be good for this but Im wondering if the moderate tip would be a little too soft for twitching around roboworms. There aren't a whole lot of casting rods in medium light that I can find. I really like the Phenix M1. I own one n the Inshore series. Also the Maxim series is a heck of a rod for $110, even comes with Sic guides. Any recommendations? If not Ill pick up one of the light action Phenix Rods.

Baitcast reel seems messed up
have you taken it down and cleaned/lubed it?
