  1. Hey guys i am wanting to set up 2 combos for summer striper fishing in the lower potomac river (brackish water), what rod power would be best for fishing 1/2oz to 2oz bucktails. I have been on TW looking at the best seller rods and it seems that heavy power rods have the higher lure weight is there a certain action that i should be looking at as well? so far im looking at the following rods and my price range is in the $100 dollar range. Reel is going to be Lew's speed spool inshore LFS Dobyns Fury Lews TP-1 Speed stick
  2. +1 to that!! I just got back from my local gander Mountain and held every rod in there in that price range, and the Mojo was the lightest of them all not to mention the great feel. (even lighter than the 150 to 200 range) I am very weight conscious, ounces makes pounds and pounds make pain lol To be honest i didn't want to like the Mojo because of its name and color, I'm pretty picky and don't like flash but the purple is really toned down and the name well it is what it is. I guess when i hear Mojo i think of Mojo Nixon the loud mouth on Sirius radio's outlaw country station, he gets on my nerves with all his antics, and his politics but i will not go there. I will be making the splurge this weekend on my first set of quality rod and reels, and the first round pick of rods is currently the ST. Croix Mojo series. Now choosing a bait caster to put on them is going to be the biggest challenge so many options, options options... ... ... ... ... ... that's my 2 cents!
  3. thanks Bologna, i'm gonna go put some in my hands tomorrow
  4. Thanks for your input OKJoe. i like where the conversation is going. let me try this from a different angle, is there HUGE difference between a 60 dollar ugly stick from walmart and the MOJO/E6X rods?
  5. Thanks Poolshark i didnt even think about mix matching i guess that extra 60 bucks for the E6X does get you a bit more. I will take a look at the mojo plastics rod i havent even seen this one yet, and the research goes on lol
  6. Long time striper troller and cat fisherman here looking to pick up on the large mouth and small mouth bass fishing this summer i read the sticky on rod basics and have decided to start there. in the price range i have set for myself and what my local sporting goods store carries are both rods mentioned in the title bar. here are my thoughts so far 1, 7' MHF mojo/E6X with revo STX 2, 7' M/M mojo/E6X with revo winch 3, 7' MF spinning w/ pflueger president series (so many spinner reel options i just chose the pflueger for now) My main question is which rod would pair better with the reels i have specified or are there better reel/rod combos out there that i could make for around the same price point, and or is it just personal preference at this point? I have not held neither rod in my hands as of yet, all my experience so far is strictly internet research. I will be heading out to my local store this weekend to get a feel for them.
